Whats your favorite brand of car?
Robert81 replied to Jared Roach's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have no preference for Brands, But there are certain Models I would prefer from each maker. As i get older my taste and needs change. As a teenager small and Quick was my ticket. (I still Like a Compact with a Manual). Now with a family and pets, I look for Mid-size or Full size rides as the compacts don't have the room to keep up with the needs of the family. I still like a quick car, Unfortunately they are just not available to fit my needs and budget. I still prefer older vehicles, because I can fix just about any problem that comes my way. -
Great Job, James. Love the paint work. the bumpers and grill, look interesting.

A man has got to know his limitations
Robert81 replied to DRG's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I find this all very Hypocritical. You say it doesn't matter the Skill or the talent of the builder, but very few care to comment on a lesser detailed build. -

So Naturally no body cares about those that can't build superdetailed? -

I feel what the original Poster is saying, and I hear what others are saying that it's not a good thing to think that way, But It's a good Philosophy, but no body practice what they preach. You go take a look on the build part of the forum, the "greats" here with the super detailed build get pages and pages of replies. Those that just use what they get in kits and around the house, may get a page. -
This is AMT's 66 Galaxie 500, with a bit of a twist. I started by sanding off the trim and leaving it rough, for the race ready look, before a coat of Dupli-Color Universal Flat Black. With suck a big car, I knew it needed a Big engine to be competitive on the street racing scene. The Kit has just that engine, a 427 Single Over Head Cam, but it needed some more Kick, than just dual carburetors. I dug up the blower assembly from one of the many AMT 33 Willys gassers that have seen it's way across my bench and worked it for Street use(Cooling System and Alternator). And even with a rough body she still needed some nice wheels so Some deep and deeper Disc style wheels Popular in the 70's found there way onto the build. And what isn't more 70's than jacking up the rear to fit larger than stock tires? A pair of Good Year Blue Streak Dragway Specials fit the wide tire bill, with narrow Good Year Polyglas GT up front. I'll get into the interior for some weight savings, and a roll bar, but haven't gotten there yet. Onto the Pics. Mock up. the rear control arms are hanging down as I'll glue them in once i get them painted. The 427 SOHC in her home. the blower slipped back in the pic, the valve cover are off as they will be left in chrome, and there will be a second carburetor, it's just not in the pic. Here are the wheels, the tires on the front are not the Polyglas, and they are set aside for white letter tires. Hole you like it, feel free to comment.

Great to see you got your Black Widow restoration done before Revell Reissues it in the fall. Really clean build and it looks perfect.

Victoria Day is Queen Victoria of England's Birthday. In all essential purposes we are an Independent Commonwealth of great Britain, but still have strong ties to the "mother country". Lets just say, "it's Complicated".

Happy Canada day, to you as well. It's a beautiful day out on the west coast, trying to decide how to spend it.

I think it's more My computer than anything. I'm running Mozilla Firefox version 3.6.4, but My computer is a HP Pavilion 515n, never been upgraded, Window XP, AVG anti-virus, and all updates set to automatic. I'm on the local Provincial Phone Company's (telus) DSL. Whale392: it's not your fault. My computer needs to be turned in to a foot rest, just don't have the cash to replace it.

I know My computer isn't very good any more, But I found that a few posts with lots of Images won't load fully for me. There are a couple Post about Fox Body Mustangs in the "1:1 reference section" that will freeze my computer solid. As for Image size, they start the size the person uploads them at, then the board re-sizes them to fit the board. Again with lots of Images it takes longer to do.

I have DSL, but my Computer is getting up there in age. I love to view this forum and the great builds on it. BUT sometime oversized and large numbers of images Pictures cause My cumputer to freeze and crash. It really hurts the enjoyability I have here. I'm sure I'm not alone.

I want to add something. Recently there was a similar situation on another forum. A young man was getting defensive and out of hand when receiving so called "constructive criticism". A lot of people tried to help him, and he lashed out at them out of frustration. Many of these people held a grudge against him, taking it on them selves to pick every build he posted apart. This caused him to grow more and more aggressive, Until he came out and started telling everybody to F off and using several other profanities I can't write here. This resulted in him being banned. I'ld hate to see this happen here. I think several of you are taking it apon yourselves to Pressure Nick into building his stuff how you see fit. He is young and needs to be let "develop" at his own rate.
-
I think you just found the cause of all this. striking back when one feel threatened is human nature. It is a two way street, you all have just as much ability to let it go, (if not more, because your adults) as he does.

I can't respect "tough Love" when it's not your place. what happened to "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"?

Look at yourself. You didn't need to open your mouth. It would have been best if you didn't. Drama feeds on Drama. I hope you brought your fork. You are at the head table in every case of Drama I've seen lately.

This is getting out of hand. Nick is a kid, he hasn't developed the skills you think he should be born with. Some things you have to learn on your own. No matter how you say it, he has to learn at his own rate. You can't tell people how to do things they need to be shown. Engorgement is how to help this young man, not belittling him. Your advise and assistance can and does come off harshly. As a parent, I know with children and young people you need to use a gentle touch, not a heavy hand. You guy need to back off, let this boy develop as he will. Being forceful with your so call "Advise" will only drive him away from our hobby and forum. Many whine about getting the younger generations into this hobby. Put your self in his place. I'm going to ask you all one thing: when you were his age did your builds look better than this? You'll attract more bees with Honey that Vinegar.
