  1. I would have to say that this kit and any of the other Eckler style Corvette kits by MPC are horrible in my opionion. They gave me fits as a kid and as an adult.Close runner ups would have to be the AMT Fire Fighter kit and The AMT Stingaree kit.
  2. My wife was kind enough to point out that my lil mishap occured on friday the 13th....LOL Peace, Sam
  3. Romell, I would never use my leg as work surface.I was at my desk when it happened, I was sitting at my desk, about a foot from it, I like a lil room when working.I had the rod on a piece of double sided tape taped to the desk top.I was"rolling" thru my cut when the rod rolled forward and my left hand holding said knife came back and sliced my leg.I think your probably right.Excess force on the knife blade more than likely contributed to the injury. It was an accident, they happen.I'm generally a very careful person.I hope everybody will think twice and be careful. Not only could you wind up with stitches, it also leaves a really nasty bruise. Peace, Sam
  4. I recieved several stitches this morning after slicing my leg open with an Xacto knife.I was cutting a piece of syrene rod for a roll cage and the rod slipped and the knife rolled off and back, cutting my leg as opposed to the rod.It semed like it happened instantly,I didn't get a drop of blood on the blade,as a matter of fact when I got back, I finished cutting the rod with the same blade...lol I'm curious to know if anyone else has has a model induced E.R. vist...I'd be interested in hearing about them. The sad part is,thisi s not my 1st model induced set of stitches, sliced my thumb wide open in 1985 with....you guessed it an Xacto knife....
  5. I want to thank you guys for the info on the museums.I looked at both websites and they are both reasonably priced compared to other attractions.Cheap enough that my son I are going to both. Thank's again, Sam
  6. I was wondering if any of you guys have been to the Hollywood Star Cars Museum in Gatlinburg Tn.I'm going to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge on vacation next week and wanted to know if was worh visiting.Any info good, bad or indifferent will be appreciated. Thank's, Sam
  7. Nice looking build so far.I've seen several GTO based Caminos but never a 442 based conversation.Very cool of you thinking outside of the box.
  8. I have'nt been on much lately, the real world has gotten in the way, but I did manage to build this kit to get me back in the swing of things. I built this kit curbside from an old Monogram Snap-Tite kit.The box stated it was a 1982 Collectors edition kit.The kit was molded in the correct color and had the correct decals but that was about it.It had a carburated small block, and some 70's style side pipes. The actual car had the new Crossfire fule injection set up and no side pipes. When I started the kit I envisioned an early 80's steet machine that you might see on the the cover of Hot Rod or Car Craft etc.. A car caught somewhere between the 70's "Street Freaks" and the 80's "Pro Street" trend. The model was painted Testor's Lime Ice laquer and given a good coat of The Treatment wax. It's box stock except for the mag wheels from The Revell/Monogram 1969 GTO Judge kit.I applied Bare Metal Foil to the side pipes and rocker moldings. Thank's for looking, Sam
  9. I just finished this kit a few days ago.Once I got over the lack of chrome, the kit was a very nice build. There are no real issues w/ the kit other than the afore mentioned dimple where the dome light is located..I built mine as a an early 1990's style heads up street racer.Overall this is a very enjoyable kit to build in my opinion. It makes a very nicely detailed kit w/ some detail painting and some BMF applied. Here's the link to my build if you want to see one completed...... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=25787 Sam
  10. Thank's guys for all the nice comments and input,it's much appreciated. To answer a few questions and comments: I have some pipes and mufflers made up,they're missing in action w/ the chin spoiler, if not found soon it may get a set of HEMI mufflers from the AMT '70 Super Bee... The emblems are the kit decals, I did something a lil different for the grill, I gave the decal a coat of Future, the split the paper back to thin it,carefully trimmed it out and glued it in place w/ Elmers Gel School Glue(it dries fast and crystal clear and excess peels off easy)giving it a very nice 3D effect. The Gauges were a real pain in the A$$, but once started no turning back.I drilled each one out, then carefully trimmed out the gauge decals individually.Glued them one at a time from behind, waited a day and using an eye dropper I filled the gauges w/ a drop of future.I did a total of five drops each to get the look of a plastic gauge cover.I waited about 30 mins between drops. It actually came out pretty good and was very low dollar. The Color was an actual color for a 1970 Camaro, it's Testors MM One shot laquer, and I used the same clear. I also used BMF on all the trim, and used black embossing powder for the carpet. I was kinda bummed about the stance, and then my wife made me feel a 100 times better. We we're watching PINKS All Out and there was yellow 70 Camaro that stretched the front end up on a 10.88 pass and she said "that looks like your green model". Wifes are priceless!!!!! Sam
  11. This is the same kit I was ranting about a few weeks ago.Once I got past the lack of chrome, the kit was a fun build. The chin spoiler is M.I.A. and will be added once found.Other than the model sitting a bit higher in the front than I like,no build issues w/ it at all, practically fell together. The model has the following parts that we're either scratchbuilt, borrowed or modified: Valve Covers, modified kit issue Intake Manifold was from the old Monogram 1969 Z28 kit Carb is a modifed carb from the Revell Baldwin Motion 1970 Chevelle kit Distributor is from Detail Master Headers are modified from the AMT 1966 Chevy II kit Flex Fan is from the Revell 1967 Pro Street Chevelle kit Lakewood style traction bars are scratchbuilt Centerline Convo Pro's are from the Revell 1969 Nova SS kit Tires are from the Lime Green / White AMT 1957 Corvette kit Steering Wheel is from the Monogram 1970 Boss 429 Mustang kit Thank's for looking, Sam
  12. I've been using HANDITAK for years to attach small/smallish parts to plastic rods, skewers etc... to spray paint them. Here's my problem lately after painting the part there appears to be a faint "oily" spot in the paint after it dries.I've never had this issue before and was wondering if anyone else had similar problems. The pack I'm using I've only had for a month or so.Dou you guy's think it's a bad batch or maybe they changed the formula?I'm at a loss here, any suggestions, hints or comment would be welcomed. Thank's Sam Ps, If your not familiar w/ Handitak it's the yellow stretchy stuff that can hang up posters, notes et....
  13. I just finished this one last night. It felt good to finish one,as other projects are hold waiting for parts.Been waiting about a month for a new interior for a certain Mustang from Revell, anyway back to the Chopper. It's box stock except for I added plug wires. The paint is MM Laquer Italian Red w/ MM Clear Laquer over the kit decals.I was really impressed by the clear, I did not polish or wax any of the parts, the clear was that nice. It was a pretty basic kit about 40 parts, most of them chrome, some very poorly.I had to BMF the pipes because the chrome rubbed right off off them as I cut the 1st part off the tree, other parts had similar issues,so it was BMF to the rescue again.W some small detail painting I was overall happy w/ it. Thank's for looking, Sam
  14. Your not trashing or rehashing anything Chuck, at least not in my opionion.Any help or suggestions are appreciated.I'm really enjoying the kit once I got past the lack of chrome issue I had with it.I have found several inaccuracies though. The instructions show the engine being assembled w/ big block valve covers, and I won't even get started on that completely awful 3 barrel Holly Carb. All the ones I've seen look nothing like the one in the kit.The ones I've seen 1st hand looked similar to a Holly four barrel until you turned them over.Instead of 4 butterflies you had 2 primaries and one huge oblong secondary. Sam
  15. Joe, I don't know if you do much Ebaying, but I've seen the older release(old tool) of the AMT '57 pretty reasonable on there, like around $12- $15 plus avg shipping in the US $6-$8 bucks. That's about what the new ROUND 2 release will cost you. There's several on there right now.I personally preferred the new tool AMT '57, but I thought the old one had a lot of character to it.I have vivid memories of building it as a kid, thinking who would ever want a brown '57...lol.The 409 w/ the sidedraft carbs definitely made the kit for me..... Sam
  16. Guy's, after spending several hours on the kit this morning it's growing on me.I guess I just needed to vent.Thank's for letting me bend you ears.I knew what the correct parts were suppose to be from the get go.I had a 1:1 '71 Z28 many moons ago.It was a non RS version, missing dual snorkel air cleaner, but had an origional albeit very greasy set set of factory finned valve covers.I was just hoping the kit came w/ a few more chrome parts, pure and simple. My plan was to spray the chromed fin valve covers w/ a matt clear to give them that polished look like you saw "back in the day" and then give them a lil black wash... no big deal. I've decide to go a slightly different route w/ the model now, making it more of a street machine. They're is unlisted bonus w/ this kit, two differen't 12 bolt rearends. One looks to set the car several scale inches lower than stock. I've always took lemons and made lemonade.I've even decided to paint the car MM Laquer G.M. Daytona Yellow....lol Thank's again for letting me vent guy's.I complained to the misses and she just pointed to my many parts "tubs" and shly said nothing in there will work......? Sam
  17. To start off with, this is not a review of this kit.I was just curious to see if anyone else is a lilttle bit disappointed w/ this re release.I was out of modeling when this was a new tool kit a few years ago.It was a bit disheartening to open the kit and see a whopping total of 5 "chrome" plated parts.I wasn't expecting 3 full tree's of chrome, but 5 pieces was very disappointing. I don't need or expect 3 different chrome wheel options, especially "bling" wheels or "pro touring" etc.....It would have been nice though to at least had chrome valve covers and a chrome dual snorkel air cleaner(could have masked off the lid and painted the base black. I'm pleased w/ the rest of the kit except for the being molded in orange issue, but I knew this as it was stated on the box. it's not that I don't have several correct air cleaners and valve covers courtesy of the Revell '69 Nova kit. In general, I guess it just seems that for $20 I should have gotten a little more chrome for the money. So heads up to anyone expecting chrome in this kit. Sam
  18. Great looking build.Your hard work has definitely paid off. Sam
  19. Thank's for the input everyone. Not one bad comment from anybody, pretty good in my opinion compared to others asking similar input or help about a supplier.Good enough for me, I'm going to put in my order in the next few days. Thank's Sam
  20. Spectacular build, everytime I looked at the pics, I noticed something new, a little detail I missed before.Once again congrats on truly awesome build.
  21. I just checked out your website.....WOW.All your builds are a nice expression of true craftsmanship and innovation. The Guinness Street Rod just completely floored me, it is over the top.It reminded me of the old Monogram Paddy Wagon kit.The HEMI was a nice touch.Looking forward to seeing what you create next.
  22. I'm liking the way your Nova is shaping up. The LS motor is the way to go, it looks great. The body color is a good choice as well. I painted a 2006 GTO a very similar if not the same color.I would like to say I really like all the small details and effort you've put into it,such as the subframe connectors, the digital gauges, radio faceplate etc...
  23. I'm considering ordering a few things from him and wanted the down low on him.I know nothing about him or his website and would like to hear from other forum members that have dealt with him, please tell both good or bad experiences.I'm hoping they we're all good transactions. I don't mind waiting a few weeks for good quality and good service.I've just been burned in the past on resin items.I'm still waiting on a Malibu Classic I ordered in 2007.The seller of course seems to have just fallen the face of the earth and Ebay. The other bad dealing was w/ some resin cast carbs that looked like blobs of junk w/ flash. I don't want to miss out on getting some items I want. I would just appreciate some feedback from you guy's.I'm hoping he's a reliable caster and businessman. Thank's Sam
  24. Great looking Chevelle.I love Pro Street cars and this one is looking good.I really think your electronics and your scratchbuilt fuel and nitrous system are extremely well done.Keep up the great work. Sam
  25. Thank's for all the comments and encouragement everyone. The Mustang is starting to take shape.I'm gonna keep the scoop, leaning towards the engine pictured, but the carb looks a lil small, so I think a dominator will be used. I did stretch the wheel wells a bit to accomodate the big tires as suggested.I set the rearend up with ladder bars, coil over shocks and a panhard bar.I kinda wanted to keep the rearend set up simple, like something any weekend racer could have done himself with a lil help. The Mustang will get a set of wheelie bars and simple old school Pro Stock aluminum spoiler, not one of those huge spoilers like on a Pro Mod car. Thank's again for the encouragement guy's. Sam
