  1. I started this yesterday and it's in the early stages of mock up.The Basic chasis is completed and ready for paint. All the rest is subject to change..lol I'm not sure about the hood scoop. If I use the single carb stroker motor in the pictures,I may use the stock CJ hood scoop for a clean appearance. If I use a Tunnel Ram, will keep the scoop. The wheels are another area subject to change.I've got a set of old school Super Tricks on it now for mock up.I've got several more sets to choose from.I'm considering the following wheels Weld Alumna Star's, Weld Pro Stars, Weld Superlites, Centerline's, Centerline Convo Pros, and a set of Torque Thrust type drag rims.Any and all suggestions and or comments would be appreciated. Thanks for looking, Sam Frame before Frame after being back halved A few mock up shots
  2. Looking good so far.I bought several of these kits when Hobby Lobby dumped all their AMT kits, I held out and got them for around $4 each. All the flash and poor fitment of parts really turned me against building them. The one bright spot were the wheels. They were spot on for some of the Billet Specialties wheels that are on a lot of the the ORSCA and NMCA drag cars.I have one still sealed that I may at some point build.Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing yours completed. Sam
  3. Ed, when you mentioned Murphy's it brought back a flood of memories...thank's they were all good ones.I vividly remember being 7 or 8 and going to Murphy's before I got into models, but was already into cars and digging thru huge bins looking for "Hot Wheels"( I used this term generically similar too everyone calling a tissue a Kleenex). The real Mattel Hot Wheels were 88 cents, and the Matchbox and Corgi were 78 cents or so.I had about $10 in birthday money and I got several Hot Wheels that day including the infamous Poison Pinto, A Hulk van, a Thor van( you could look thru the back glass and see an "action scene", and a Caption America red, white and blue '77/78 Trans Am.I also got what to this day is the "Holy Grail" of my "Hot Wheels" collection the Corgi combination Batmobile with Batboat on a trailer. I picked out my bounty, my mom put them into her basket and we went to the lunch counter and I got my favorite at the time......an open face roast beef sandwich and a Dr. Pepper. Just curious does anyone else remember Gibson's Dept stores? They always had a nice selection of model kits. Sam
  4. I'm digging the Hobby room, is that a mini fridge helping support your workbench?
  5. Epoxy would work, but I think on a fan super glue would do just as well, it really comes down to person choices. When I use PE scripts badges etc... on car bodies, I've had good luck w/ using future floor wax to attach the PE parts. Sam
  6. I'm 39, so I'm not as old as some but older than others.I remember being able to go to 7 Eleven, and getting a can Coke, a pack of M&M's and a comic book w/ $1.00 and getting 3 cents change.I also picked up returnable bottles for pocket money, earning 10 cents for each one.My earliest model memory was getting a 1/32 snap tite funny car at a family XMas part/reunion circa 1978 and I was hooked.I think my next model was the MPC Blackbird kit, I'm thinking it was around $3.50 or so at Big K at the time(anybody else remember Big K?...lol).It seems like models stayed in the $4-$6 range way up into my late teens w/ the monster trucks being about $2 more. For some strange reason I seemed to have noticed them going up when AMT released the '66 ChevyII in both versions simultaneously and they've been going up ever since.Just my 2 cents ..... Sam
  7. Looks really sharp so far, hard to go wrong w/ a '69 Camaro.......
  8. I finished these two today. They're both built box stock w/ some detail painting. They were very enjoyable to build and build up into nice replicas in my opinion.Highly suggested as a nice, quick and satisfying build. L89 LT-1 Thank's for looking, Sam
  9. Like Dave and many others, I use the Radio Shack wrapping wire.It does come in only 3 colors, but the colors really work well for me.Most of my builds are race or performance oriented so the colors are fine w/ me. The red is good for MSD Pro type race plug wires, the blue is a pretty good match for Moroso Blue Max plug wires, and the white can be painted fairly easily to match any color you wish. My method for painting the wire is fairly simple.I just cut about 1/3 more than I need, glue each end w/ a drop of super glue to a wooden skewer, put one skewer in a bench vise and put the other in a small portable vise and pull the wire nice and taught.I then just fog the wire w/ the desired color from a rattle can.It doesn't take much paint at all, too much paint and it looks too thick. The paint is fairly flexible and I have'nt had any problems w/ it coming off or cracking, I've used both enamel and Laquers. Just my 2 cents, Sam
  10. All I can say is WOW.That is one of the best looking street rods I've seen in awhile. The paint is over the top.I can't wait til the one I ordered comes in.I was going to go w/ the 5.0 motor, but after seeing yours w/ the early Hemi, I'm going that route, I've been saving the blower set up from the Willy's w/ the early Hemi, now I have a place for it.Once it again....a truly spectacular build...... Sam
  11. Nice, love the color.Super clean build of a car you don't see everyday.Really liked your eye for detail on the engine compartment.
  12. Nice paint.....the colors really compliment each other. Are you planning on using the RS Grille or the base grille?I think the RS would look great w/ your 2 tone paint IMHO..... Sam
  13. I like what you've done so far.It definitely has that 70's "Street Freak" feel to it.
  14. Thank's for all the comments guy's, they are greatly apreciated.I bought the kit for $5 on a clearence table. It's basically a curbside kit but it builds up nicely especially for $5.The kit had almost no flash and cleaned up with very little effort. The color is the base silver color for the Krylon X Metals line of paints w/ 2 coats of Future on top.
  15. Nice looking Mopar, very well executed.I especially dig the redline tires.
  16. Nice build, really like the painted bumpers.Clean build all the way around........
  17. I've been a member for a while now, posted here and there, but read a lot of the things on here.I've been battling a degenerative disease for quite a while and last week had a 4th and hopefully last surgery to help w/ my condition.I had my spine fused and several disc replaced with the hopes of alleviating the severe pain I've been suffering.I carried my laptop to the hospital w/ me and looked at this board/forum/website for hours while I was laid up, the great builds here truly inspired me and got my creative juices flowing. I just wanted to give a big THANK YOU to everyone for making feel excited again about a hobby I truly love.I've been building since 1976 off and on.The off times were when I was building 1:1 cars.I hope to post more in the future as my health improves. Thank's Sam
  18. I built this model as a tribute to a Z28 I owned about 15 yrs. ago. It's very close to the real car, leaving out a few things such as MSD box, electric fan, etc.....The overall of feel of the model is a great representantion of the real car.The model has a BBC w/ aluminum heads, a Team G intake(as close looking to one as could find in the parts box), Dominator Carb, a built Super T 10 transmission, long tube headers, etc just like the 1:1.I built the model w/ no exhaust(yet), the real car had a 3" slip on exhaust system that was easily removable.Just like the real car the block was painted blue to match the darkest blue in the Z28 stripe. Thank's for looking, Sam
  19. I finished this yesterday while healing from having my spine fused and several disc replaced. It's a box stock build. It's intended to represent an Alabama unmarked Highway Patrol unit. Thank's for looking, Sam
  20. I built this Mustang as a "PINK'S" type street racer. It started out as the R/M 1993 Cobra kit.The Engine,supercharger,etc... is from the R/M Saleen Speedster, slicks are late model R/M NASCAR tires, front tires are from an old Monogram Rampage Camaro, wheels are from an old AMT Corvette Gasser kit. I scratch built the cowl hood, driveshaft, coil, radiator hoses, subframe connectors, and the rollcage, used red wrapping wire for plug wires, telephone wire for the boots, the headers were heavily modified parts box items.I plan to add some mufflers when I find some I like.
  21. Nice looking Vette.I've always thought that body style Stingray was one of the sharpest cars ever to come from General Motors.Hard to go wrong w/ a silver Stingray, nice job.
  22. Kool El Camino, the surfboards and the redlines really give it a nice touch.
  23. Great looking Mopar.I really admire you attention to detail, especially your foil work.Just curious did you by chance use some of the so called "new" Bare Metal foil?
  24. Sorry to hear about you layoff, that sucks.Been laid off a few times, so I understand completely.Do you have anything that you can do for "side" jobs etc.....?I know "side" jobs and Ebay helped pay my mortgage for awhile.Hang in there.
  25. Looking good so far.I have a nearly identical project on the backburner.I really didn't care for the blower set up,kinda got stalled trying to find a new induction set up.Thanks for the heads up about the new 2 X 4 set up coming out. What color are you planning on painting?Looking forward to seeing this build progress.
