When/What do you clear coat?
Eloveless replied to Eloveless's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Got you.. What grit do you use to sand mold lines? I was testing that out last night for the first time... I also didn't know if I over sanded. Do you just sand until the marker is gone? I do use an xacto knife. I made the mistake my first kit and broke the windshield wipers and stuff off... Lesson learned -

Snake, sorry for all the questions. You are just a big help right now.. When putting together a model, I know there is no wrong way to do it, but do most ppl paint and do the body first? Or do you generally work page to page in the instructions? Do you prime everything at once? Do you break off the pieces from the "branches" all at the start or as you go? Just trying to get a feel for it.. I wish I could watch someone start a model and finish it all.. I need to youtube a video. I am sure it is out there of watching the WHOLE process. -

When/What do you clear coat?

So I don't need to use primer out of a can from Walmart, then Testor paints? Just curious. -
I am working on my second build. I have been watching videos and trying to figure out clear coating. Is the clear coat always a lacquer? I have seen a product called Pledge future being used. Is this considered a clear coat product, or does this go over at the clear coat to help just the shine? Is the process for painting the body; priming, color, then clear coat? I am a little confused. Also, do you clear coat every part of the car? Dashboard, seats, motor, chassis, ETC? I have noticed that in my second build my seats and interior tub doesn't look to shiny. I guess this is where you would clear coat? Sorry for the dumb questions, just new and want to have a better build the next time. Thank you,

Where do you get supplies?

Thanks Snake... What are supplies you can't live without? I have a good pair of hobby tweezers, sanding sticks, and exact knife. What grit of sand paper do you use for sanding lines and what not? Just curious. -
Hey guys, looking for good websites that might have great supplies for scale modeling hobby. I only have hobby lobby where I am at. I am new to this hobby and wanting to know where I can get good supplies for a good price. Thank you!

do I brush on the thinned paint?

mold lines? So follow lines of plastic and make them deeper?

espo: I don't know if it is a rule for building cars, but I don't know much about the real thing when you look up for references and pictures, do you just google that? Piece by piece? What is sand cast? Again I am new. I looked up an engine online and found orange and blue high gloss motors. But all motors were in cars and hard to tell what each side looked like. Anyways, thanks for the tips and advice.

JT what is a light black wash? I am new to this. Thanks.

I used break fluid. Worked like a charm and got it for $7 a gallon

Here is an update. Body color looks awesome. I have steel and aluminum contrast. Looks good. I'm having problem with my airbrush and black paint. Coming out heavy and splotchy. Don't know what's going on. Any suggestions? Hard to see in picture but I took one anyways.

My motor I have been working on. I am thinking I tried being to "colorful" and took away from what a real motor looks like. Please give me your opinion. My 2nd build. First motor I did was just solid grey. I only have the fan left to put on.

Thanks

Yeah, where did you get that?

So I recieved this kit in a 6 car deal. Just did inventory and all parts are here. Problem is he painted the hood, body, and bumper yellow. He had a mix of enemal and acrylic paint. How do I go about sanding this down without hurting the parts? I would just prime over it, but some parts are bubbled and has runs in the paint job. Any help would be great.

Samiches, what did you use on motor for the wiring? I am looking to detail my motor on second build. What's on the motor besides the 90 degree boots and wiring out of the box?
-
Here is the motor coming along. Hand painting on 2nd build instead of all one color. Finishing up tonight. Got the steel color pipes and aluminum transmission case. The body will be this burnt orange. Wanted to give the motor a contrast to body.
-
what do you do if body is warped?
-
Couple of questions...... I notice a lot of ppl treat the body as a single build, engine, ETC. I guess I am saying after a while you don't go by directions, you have your own method? Also what is a good clear coat to finish off with? Do you use a clear coat for motor and all, or just the body? My last build I had my tires off and one was off the ground, what's a good way to prevent that? What skill level do most builders use? I know it depends on how long you have been in the hobby, but just curious Any other tips or hints are greatly appreciated.
