Cab paint is on. ready for decals and then some clear! Bed paint is on...but not thrilled with the tonneau snaps i added. Had a reaction with the glue. I photo'd close up...which makes it look much worse than if just viewing at arm length. contemplating next steps... options: 1 - Sand down, re-prime and paint. leave the snaps off. bit worried this could create additional issues... look worse, etc. 2 - leave as is...paint the snaps silver, call it good. hmmm.

Few updates on my build. First...I found out that my dad's truck is actually a 1977 instead of a 78. lol. Dad's memory isn't great. These trucks all looked the same, but the 77 was an anniversary year and had gold stripe on the side molding. How I'm going to add that will interesting. 🙂 I'm narrowing the paint colors. The GM color were 'red poly' and 'santa fe tan'. Neither is perfect, but getting close. I'm also working on the scratch built canopy. Lots of trial and error with scale, angles, etc. The Sam Mills slam locks worked great! thanks @GLMFAA1 Got a few more details to go. Found a good representation of the original interior, sans bench seat.

How to Simulate tonneau snaps?
Vince311 replied to Vince311's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
@BDSchindler This isn't relevant. The question was not about emulating a cover.... but to create the snaps. -
I’d like to add snaps around a truck bed. As if tonneau is off. 1:25 scale. How are others creating these? Dabs of silver paint?

Thanks! In all honesty, I wasn’t quite sure how this was gonna work out with the 2wd conversion. I understand that there are aftermarket drop kits available.I’m also not super concerned with accuracy as far as the suspension goes. I’m using a 60s Chevy pickup front suspension, with a bit of blocking to get ride height. For the rear, I have the axle sitting on the frame, which has been shimmed for ride height. I’ll try to get some pics up soon.

Had a chance to get this bad boy rolling again. Extended the frame to accommodate the long bed. It’s not pretty, but should work. Fussing with ride height. door signage, license plates and seat decals designed. Got a friend doing a 3D print on the bumper mounted pipe clamp. Started getting the canopy laid out with various styrene panels. Bumper is being modded to resemble 1:1. ISO: needing to source the trailer/hauling mirrors. 92 f150 kit appears to have the closest.

Hi there! Wondering if anyone might have an extra set of mirrors? Looks like these were found on AMT 1992 F-150 Flare Side. Ford 80's Ranger, 66 F100....possibly others. thanks in advance! Vince

@mikemodeler @Can-Con thanks for the review! Yes, aware of the conversion from 4wd to 2wd. I've seen at least one 3D kit that facilitates this. Somewhere I read about a guy using a NASCAR chassis as well. ?? The long bed conversion seems to be the real challenge. The Mad Modeling (Morgan Auto Detail) bed is designed for a 1:25 kit. Thus the Deserter kit. I originally wanted to use the GMC snow plow or Big Game truck, as those have the proper front clip. But alas, both are 1:24...and won't work with the MAD bed. hmmm. Then there is this route.

Not sure starting another project, with four stalled projects on the bench, is a good idea. But... planning them is my favorite part. This build is a tribute to my dad's Plumbing truck, from the early 80s. I hope to get this started this year. It's got a few unique elements to it that should be a challenge. Here is my build sheet thus far. EDIT: updated build sheet with new plan of attack. 1/23/24

15 minutes at a time, over two years…finally complete. No real customization, aside from license plate and some paint touches. Great kit. LA 7 Mary 3 & 4

@martinfan5 great build! I'm in the midst of this same project. Curious, on the tank decal application. The instructions are a bit confusing... showing 'cut lines'. How did you handle this? Did you cut into the decal on each of these lines? thanks in advance. Vince -

Yes, the brougham (hard top) is a great design. I had one, but unfortunately used it for a parts car. I liked the lines way more so than the fastback variant. The dashes look cool, but are a pain to remove and replace. cheers!

Not dead....just stalled out with life projects.
