'Joker Goon Car' kit - built as a rust bucket '77 Monaco
charlesdcamden replied to cdsbigsby's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Oh! And chrysler vehicles up until the late 80s or early 90s had a bad habit of rotting thru the very center of the doors at the top, til about 8-10 inches down. Especially the drivers side. I have no clue why though. The Ram D series trucks were the worst. -
Man i love this!!! Old Novas make really good builds. Im in!

'65 Plymouth Satellite...The One That Got Away
charlesdcamden replied to Greg Pugh's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Im in.... Ive been on the hunt for a few kits, one being a 65 Sattelite to build a "Hot Rod" movie car... Black 65ish satellite all jacked in the rear, wide chrome reverse wheels on the rear and a big hemi up front. If i can find a kit..... Anyhoo. Great looking build so far! -
Thats the look i was going for! Intimidating, nasty, gnarly, in your face Hemi power. A weapon of mass two lane destruction. Yea, it needs more detail and better paint, but for my first build in 10 years i think i pulled it off!

huh-huh-hush with that mechanical correctness mumbo jumbo!!!! Lmao! Yea, i know, except in the FWD dirt track or demo derbys.... Anyway. "Because racecar" should explain it all hahaha it didnt turn out half as smooth as i wanted. I guess because in order to get the color i wanted i had to put it on a little thick. AND it was testors..... I normally go to NAPA with the color code of the paint i want and get a basecoat/clear system mixed. Its kinda pricey and doesnt have much of a shelf life, but you gotta pay to play soooooooo..... But i appreciate the compliment!

'Joker Goon Car' kit - built as a rust bucket '77 Monaco
charlesdcamden replied to cdsbigsby's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Im in Kentucky. And alot of mid 70s cars down here are pretty rotted out.... The amout of weathering youve got going on is fairly moderate in my eyes lol -
Those disc brakes on the rear of that 32 were OOB brake parts for that model kit i think.... And im pretty sure theyre backwards lol

New WIP: 'Vicky Rat Rod *UPDATE: FINISHED*
charlesdcamden replied to charlesdcamden's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Also, i need tips on "fogging" the windows and chrome WITHOUT making a nasty clue mess.... I want to fog the headers, velocity stacks, shifter, and give the corners and edges of the glass that hazy, old car look. All my online searches are showing me NIL. -

I have no clue why it posted that first pic by itself, then duplicated others.... And posted my post almost two hours later AND called it a response to my thread!? My web may be on the fritz lol -
New WIP: 'Vicky Rat Rod *UPDATE: FINISHED*
charlesdcamden replied to charlesdcamden's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Been getting alot of work done on this thing, but no in progress pics. Been too busy doing work haha. Got the body weathered. It was my first time doing a patina finish EVER.... I used the "salt" technique. I didnt buy any expensive patina kit or anything. Just a $6 can of krylon multi-color textured paint that looked ALOT like natural rust, some el cheapo Dollar Store pale yellow, and some .98C walmart flat black. Along with a mixture of fine table salt, course sea salt, and ice cream salt (rock salt). It was a learning process that i think i got lucky with and nailed the first time lol. In the future ill use more course salt and less fine.... It scrubs off easier. Also mounted a "rusty" spare on the rear and reworked the front suspension to accomodate the pullys and belts on the 440.... Ill get to that later haha in the mean time, enjoy! -

ambitious paint '41 Willys Pro Street curbside-ish
charlesdcamden replied to Rider's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Beat me to it Rider lol. If you wann get rid of that twin supercharger setup, let me know following this build pretty close. I have an idea for a curbside t-bird gasser using the body and some other things from the Revell/Monogram Red Hot Pro Street T-Bird i stole basically everything from in an earlier build lol. -
New WIP: 'Vicky Rat Rod *UPDATE: FINISHED*

There werent any instructions or parts provisions for lowering or channelling. I guess it was supposed to be a highboy all the way. I like highboys, but this thing just screamed LOW. -
New WIP: 'Vicky Rat Rod *UPDATE: FINISHED*
charlesdcamden replied to charlesdcamden's topic in WIP: Model Cars
i stand corrected lol. My knowledge of model until 34 or so is kind of flimsy. I can tell a model t by sight tho! -
So heres my new project. I started this while the paint was curing on my 68 Charger build, so no in progress stuff lol. Im using the stock "steelies" that came with the charger, along with the 440 that came with the charger as well. Im modding some of the engine parts that come with the Vicky to work on the 440. I plan on detailing the engine and interior, as well as weathering and channelling the body. Im going for a "previous hot rod turned rat rod" feel.... So ive already set my stance and channelled the body on the frame. Alot lol. It has a true rat feel, especially with the red wheels and pad stamped whitewalls that came with the Vicky. Ive also chopped the radiator and grill shell to match the lowered body. I was going to chop the top super low, but once i had the body channelled i just fell in love with the tall top on the channelled frame lol. The Vicky came with some decent chassis and brake detail parts like brake drums, full steering components, etc. Im going to use the rotors that came with the charger up front, and make some calipers for them I also plan on doing brake lines and fuel lines. If i have the patience that is lol. Ill post some pics of the chassis when i get a chance. For now.... Enjoy

UPDATE: Finally got this thing finished! The hood i got from LSM turned out almost perfect. Ill definitely be using them in the future for other things. For $8.50 shipped and only needed some small trim work and a minor tweak to make it sit flat (mostly because my engine is ungodly tall and doest actually clear without touching....) it was very much worth it and took some headache out of fabbing a proper cowl induction hood. Its definitely not up to par with most builds on here because of lack of detail, paint quality, and mechanical realism on some things, but i like it and its got me geared up for a couple of more future builds that will take me out of my comfort zone, which have been mostly box stock undetailed builds (aka gluebombs lol) I didnt take any pics of the WIP for the final assembly, but it was all button up stuff that almost everyone always neglects to do until it has to be done lol. The paint didnt turn out like id really wanted.... It stayed kinda green for almost 7 days and doesnt have the shine i wanted. But this was basically a relearn on how to do this so im more than happy with the outcome soooo without further ado, here she is, fellow plastic bandits enjoy!

Not alot of progress this weekend.... It was very windy and rainy, so paint was out of the question. I worked on (and ruined) my cowl so i ordered a cowl hood from LSM... I may use them for the detail stuff in my future builds. Hopefully ill have some progress soon

Actually i think you better look again.... The actual firing order as numbered is wrong BUT the wires from the distributor go to the correct places. Its just numbered wrong. Which wouldnt mean anything in 1:25 or 1:1. #5 is actually #1 and goes to #1 on the distributor. Following the firing order, not the numbers, you will see that the pic i posted IS correct

Thats a google image i downloaded just to help the guy out.... I didnt take the time to confirm anything much less study the pic to see which sides were bank 1 or bank 2... It was rhe clearest image possible for me to download onto my phone at the time. And FYI ALL V8 domestic engines are 18436572 until the mid eighties or so when ignition systems became more dependent on computer control than actual mechanical ignition timing, and ALL right banks are bank 1 with cylinder 1 being the first cylinder on that side... Just trying to help the guy out bro...

Quick update.... Got the rollcage painted, detailed and installed onto the chassis. And with absolutely 0 fingerprints.... Im kinda procrastinating on the cowl hood, but ill get it done. Ive got some contour putty drying overnight to start smoothing the stock hoods contours and filling the hole where the gas tank lid was. Also decided to shave all the emblems..... Not gonna use the door handles, wipers or any other body chrome except the windshield and rear glas trim, as well as fender trim. Heres a pic of the assembled chassis. Enjoy!

I have no idea why my response was put in the same box as your quote.... Weird lol
