Mal.au replied to grandnational's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Hi Joe I think I almost have what you are after, they are the right wheels and I even have two front runner tires for them. But I only have 1 front wheel, and the chrome is coming off one of the rear ones, if any of this is any good to you send me a message and I will post them to you, if I find the missing wheel I will send it as well The wheels in Question are Bob Glidden signature pro stars the ones in the pic came from the revell Bob Glidden motorcraft Thunderbird P/s car http://cgi.ebay.com/Revell-Bob-Glidden-Mot...id=p3286.c0.m14 Regards Mal -
No Complaints here Nick In Fact just recently they have started a series for older touring cars in Australia although we don't hear to much about it, our big race is next weekend at Bathurst, even Boris Said has seen the light and is here to drive, Dale Earnhart JR was down here late last year to have a look. The F1 race in Melbourne is just a side show for the V8's, and a few years ago the V8's didn't race there and crowds were down dramatically, I fear the same may be said but not as dramatically with the Indy on the Gold coast. Regards Mal

Hi guys I sit over here in Australia reading all your posts and just dreaming of being able to just walk into a store and buying what I want of a shelf, or being able to get all that cool paint (postal services get touchy about Flamable goods in envolopes in international mail) and all the sporting events I would love to be able to attened if I lived about a 16 hour flight east and a little north from where I am now, but tonight I have just read the post about touring cars, and I must admit I had a bit of a giggle to myself, HERE finally us little Aussies have something you guys want, V8SUPERCARS (although there is a roumer that there is going to be a V8 super car race over there soon) I have no fear in saying that we have the best touring car series in the world and almost the best racing series full stop and it's all ours (insert evil laugh here ) sorry for gloting but I don't get to many opputunities Mal

Swapping fenders from one model to another
Mal.au replied to white00gt's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Hi Harry Won't be any good me telling you where to shop as I'm in Australia, but I would imagine home depot or any hardware shop would have a fiberglass repair kit, all it is is some fiberglass matting and two tubes, the tubes is the two part resin the mat you don't need, all you do is make an impression in some clay or playdo of the flare, then fill the impression with the mixed two part resin from the repair kit, when it sets you will have to get something flat like a piece of glass and get some sandpaper lay the sandpaper on the glass and sand the back side of flare to fit the fender you need it to. I haven't tried to make a flare but I did make a blower and an injector scoop once, worked great, I have also heard of people using Bondo to make the part Regards Mal -

Hi Abe Welcome to the forum and I have been where you are in skill level, I am proud to say that my skills have gone from low to middle of the road with the help of this board, (see pic to the left), just ask questions no matter how dumb you think it is, you never know how many people there are out there that have thought of asking it and never have, the answer or answers ( theres more than one way to skin a Cat) will help every one. Bill is right when he says start off basic and work up from there, I can't tell you how many kits I have in boxes because I got ahead of myself, I am starting to get there now. You said at the moment you are unemployed, between getting a job and going to school, you might want to have a go at making some small parts yourself out of sheet plastic and rod, you might want to start by making say a roll bar, here in Australia in cans of food usually powders when you open the can there is a Aluminum seal, that stuff is cool you can make all sorts of stuff from that, just about anything you have on hand in your home can be used on a model, (Just wait till you ask the question about removing paint and see the list of products you can use, and you won't get 90% of them at a hobby shop) if you are a smoker or know someone who is check out the foil wrapper stuff in side the box of cigarettes, thats heat shield in a muscle car or race car, I guess what I am saying is give some simple stuff a go you never know what you might come up with. Try out some rattle cans for paint, I have herd guys mention home depot and stuff for good sources to start of with, I use rattle cans for some of my builds but where I buy mine probably won't help you, it's a long drive Mal

Hi Terry Congats on being back to the Mag Mal -
Hi Guys F1 Races aren't worth the money greedy Bernie asks for it I am sure if the Family that owned Indy threw a 1/4 of the money at V8 super car they would be more than happy to oblige, how good would that be Mal

Hi Ken I have just finished a hobby course in car upholstery and the way I saw someone fix a dash pad with cracks in it was Fill the cracks with silicone and then they recover it with a vinyl, recovering it isn't that hard, cover the vinyl and dash pad with contact glue, wait till it isn't tacky and start sticking it down on the top part of the pad, when it comes to getting it to go round corners just break out the old hair dryer heat and form to the shape. I only saw it done I haven't done it but it didn't look to hard Mal

Hey Wayne I have been looking at the ebay store and I am just wondering are all the wheels around 1/24th scale or do they vary, to quote the size from one set of wheels 1 1/16 x .300 wide, I understand the 1 1/16th but I am unsure about the .300 wide, can you explain to this metric system educated Aussie Thanks Mal

Hi Guys I have started another WIP maybe I might even finish this one I have included a couple of pictures as a start, I am going to build it as if it has been restored in recent times, I notice the Blue Max funny car that has been restored by Chuck & Del Worsham has a blower Blanket, so I would imagine that it would have an oil pan dipper and probably some other stuff I'm sure I haven't figured on yet. I modified the Quick change to resemble a rear end based on a 9", the round part of the back of the diff is an eye that I acquired from my wifes Teddy bear making supplies I cut the pin from the stub axles and made a pin from a 1:1 nail, so I can glue the axle as one peice then add the stub axles later once they are painted Hope you enjoy what I have so far Mal

Hi Ken I am going a bit of topic here but in the first pic there is a house No make that a mansion in the background, or is it something else like a hospital??? Good luck with the projects, are the dash pads cracked?? Mal
