  1. Nice work. I love the Gulf Porsche. Actually, I love all the Porsches.
  2. Haven't posted in a while, but one of my current pet projects is the buildup of the very nicely cast Scale Coachworks 1/24 FIA Cobra transkit/kit. Based on the longtime classic Monogram/Revell 427 Cobra, the model comes with a curbside baseplate and cast closed hood, so I decided to stay with this concept and execute a curbside replica. I had a jar of MCW Viking Blue lacquer that I used, which is period correct for this build. I also used a set of Racing Miniatures FIA Cobra wheels and tires, and Arrowhead Aluminum brakes and rotors. After prep, paint and clear, I polished it to a very acceptable finish. I used a 289 Cobra dashboard due to the difference in shape from the 427 version, but had to live with the glovebox. Roll bar is evergreen stock gently bent and inserted through the body and into the chassis as original. The down side of the Racing Miniatures wheel set is the fronts are too small, so I have to use two sets. After installing brakes and rotors I'll tackle the interior and windshield. I hope to finish up soon.
  3. This is a very nice kit, I've had one in my collection for quite a few years. The tool was updated many years ago to the M8D which made reissue of this version impossible. You may want to grab a later version M8D for parts (the chassis plate is almost identicle). I'm gonna keep an eye out to see how this turns out. Good luck.
  4. Just reading your thread gives me inspiration to do mine. While it won't be as detailed as your GS, the AM kit is a great starting point to build an accurate model. Good luck...can't wait to see an update. PS: The book will answer a million questions about the history of all five GS's.
  5. Great start to a great project. I, too, have started the very same GS a few years ago and just recently found that same decal sheet to do GS # 004. Do you have the book (Corvette Grand Sport by Dave Friedman & Lowell C. Paddock)? It contains a wealth of knowledge and has photos of all the cars at all stages of their development...a must to build this car. I question your choice of the Halibrand 'kidney bean' wheels. I think they were last used at Bridgehampton in Sept. of 1963. The cars were returned to Chevrolet after that and totally rebuilt with 9.5 inch wide Halibrands (like the kit wheels) for the Nassau Tourist races in Dec. of 1963. I like the way you are prepping the chassis for coil springs. The only work I've done on my chassis as yet is to plug the casting slots and paint it. I prepped, painted and polished the body several years ago with MCW Nassau blue. I saw the car at Lime Rock CT. last year and I took some photos which I'll post. Good luck on your build and keep us posted with updates.
  6. I've been in and out of the hobby for many years. Since my return in the nineties, paint & finish may be my forte. I use (mostly) MCW airbrush lacquer over any good sanded primer, then two or three good coats of MCW clear. I then use Micro Mesh polishing cloths followed by a polish (The Treatment in my favorite). You can use any brand of paint & clear, just be methodical and prepare the surface as best you can. When polishing with abrasive cloths, (I) use a very small stream of runnung water to wash away any material that the cloth removes. I realize everyone has their own technique, but I'm quite happy with my results most of the time. Good luck.
  7. Great work...nice touch with the figures, as it adds life and motion to this truely inspiring model.
  8. Actually, It's a great kit. It has the 70's style Nascar Late Model Sportsman chassis w/180 degree exhaust and a generic big block chevy engine. The GTO body was a retooled MPC GTO, but the body can be swapped out using any 1/25 GM intermediate (actually, the chassis can be easily shortened for use with a Camaro, Nova, etc.). I've waited for years hoping this kit would be reissued and have bought several copies. The same chassis was also used for the Jegs Camaro, Dick Trickle Mustang, and also a Dodge Challenger Stocker back in the 70's. It can be built up as either a dirt track or asphalt stock car.
  9. Nice job. I love those old Super Stocks and A/FX cars from the sixties. I wish I had more time myself to build.
  10. Hi. It's been three months since you last updated us on your Cobra build. How's it coming? We would like to see the projects latest updates. Thanks.
  11. How about building a nice vintage stock car for the trailer? Maybe a '55 Chevy or '56 Ford
  12. Another one of my favorites...Lamborghini Jota
  13. Here's a pretty popular oldie...ZZ Top's Cadzilla in 1/24th scale
  14. Very nice work, and a beautiful presentation. The best rendition of the Corvette GTP in scale I've seen yet. Can't wait to see your next project. Rich B
  15. Ismael, this is a simple but very nice kit if built with a little care. The Porsche uses the same tool as the March Indy Car, and fills a void in the huge Porsche arsenal. I think John Andretti drove a later (blue) version, only available in 1/43rd scale. I built this kit about fifteen years ago, give or take. It still looks great under glass. Good luck. Rich B
  16. Really nice work. I like the idea of a mock-up chassis for fitting the newly massaged components and body parts. I have a few of these kits on the shelf and will keep your build processes in mind when I undertake one. I also never realized that the 1/16 MPC kit didn't have the oil cooler body molding, even though I built one twenty years ago and still have it in my case! I have a special interest in scale Cobras, as I have a 1/1 replica in my garage that's 95% complete and will be on the road soon. Good luck with your great buildup and keep us posted. Rich P.S. Someone is selling resin Sunburst wheels on ebay and they look pretty good.
  17. I'll take a few & post them soon. I guess anything can be built with proper effort...I just gotta put my mind to it. The thing is essentially a block of resin. Rich
  18. Ismael. What do you think of the old UMI Modelwerk version of the Corvette GTP? Is it buildable, or is it just too crude? I've had one on the shelf for several years now and wondered it it was worth the considerable effort to build a decent shelf replica. The decal sheet is quite nice, as are the wheels, but the body leaves something to be desired. Rich
  19. Hey Ismael. Good work. I remember you from the HH board. You made a ZO6 trans in resin for me way back when. You've done some really good Corvette work in the past, and I think this project will turn out quite nice as well. I'll be lookin' in every now and then...Good luck. Rich B
  20. Great topic and great work. I don't mean to hijack your thread, But back in '91 I built the Hasagawa version of the early Toyota GTP, which turned out to be quite accurate and similar to the show car as displayed in '94 at Lime Rock, CT. Too bad this version isn't still available, as it would be a bargain compared to the resin kits. I'll try to share a couple pics. Hope I do it right. Good luck with your builds
