I haven't seen too many setups with both car & train, and can only offer one link to the Euro IMCA in 1/24 scale. This is a very intense page, and can take a bit of time for all pics to load. Unfortunately, there are not many shots of the layout, but there are some glimpses of the train stuff. I think the main problem with doing trains & cars would be the scale and size of trains to the cars. The trains would tend to over power the car side of things. It would be great to have it all working out though.

Nice workmanship there. Can you show us a pic of the business side? What motor is that poking through? -

What a tease. Can you show some more pics? -
Yep, you're right. That one on ebay is a mongrel, and it still fetched good money. There were 2 chassis for the COX 2E, 1 in diecast magnesium; and the Iso-fulcrum one in pressed aluminium. (unfortunately don't have pic at hand of the Iso)

Here's a pretty crappy Chappie on ebay
-
Yep those COX Chaparral 2Es are considered by many as the Holly Grail of U.S. slotcars. I've seen many mint in box ones sell on ebay for $3k ++ up to $10k for one a few years ago. Good usable ones go for $500.00 ++

Airbrush and Alclad....
slotbaker replied to slotbaker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
All good info, thanks. I hope I can get my work as good as that. :? The thing that prompted me to get of my fat A, is a bit of luck coming into posession of 2 resin repro Monogram midgets, which are 1/24 slot car body kits. Local Aussie guy is making them in limited numbers. They are so good, they need to be done right. (Or as right as I can do them) I'll post some pics on the weekend, if anyone is interested. -
Airbrush and Alclad....
slotbaker replied to slotbaker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks Simon. Yep the Alclad site backs this up.. "High Shine Finishes-Polished Aluminium, Chrome for plastic and Stainless Steel require a dark glossy base, use Alclad Gloss Black Base" The other, less reflective, finishes seem to be ok with base coats like the Tamiya gloss rattle cans. Looks like I'm on the hunt for a Crescendo 175T me thinks  -
Airbrush and Alclad....
slotbaker replied to slotbaker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks guys. One of the local guy here suggested a Pasche. Looks like I'm off shopping on the weekend. I've read a lot of the posts about applying Alclad, and checked out their website, so I've got the theory part covered. But as I've found out in life, theory is just that, and doing is believing. Only one to learn, and that's to have a go. Thanks again. -
Hi, I want to have a go at shooting Alclad, but don't have any experinece with airbrushes, so.. I thought I'd ask youse guys for suggestions on which airbrush to get. Hopefully, I'll get one that can do a lot of other things, but I want to concentrate on getting the most basic/simple one to use and clean, that is good for Alclad. I figure I can learn with this one, then graduate up to something more serious if I feel I am capable enough to do so. Any suggestions? :?

You could try Pattos Place. http://members.optushome.com.au/pattosplace/home.html DECALS A-E, about 7/8th of the way down the page. Ddge Chargr-Dukes Of Hazzard & #9-Dick Nitty Don't know how accurate they are, but there is a sample image.

Hi oldcars, I finally got around to getting some pics of a couple of tracks. We race monthly on this one with 1:24 Scale cars of both hard body, and vacuum form at Hornsby. http://www.hornsbyslotcars.com.au/ More pics here; http://slotcar.freepgs.com/pics.html This one is Ninco track, and is in slot car retailer (Armchairracer) http://www.armchairracer.com.au/ Under construction in the background, is an 8 lane Carrera track. I'll post more when I can.
-
I'll try and get some pics of the track over here for ya. Marcus Ambrose in the USA this year trying to get into the big time, but we don't hear much about him.
-
Yeah, we had beveled gears for the in-liners, but not sidewinders. There are a couple of 1/24 resin Falcons and Commodores that could be used for V8 Supercars, and some vac forms, but not a real great range. There is better selection in 1/32, with Scalextric covering the last 2 seasons.

maserati birdcage, brass chassis, russkit wheels
slotbaker replied to jbwelda's topic in Model Car Racing
Nice. I was a real fan of Russkit stuff, as it really promoted the scratch building side of the hobby. Take care with those wheels, they don't like being twisted by hand to lock or unlock them. You could try re-sizing the pic to about 700 pixels wide. At the moment yours is about 1200 wide which is a bit big for viewing on the internet. Got any more pics of the old stuff?? -
Jairus, nice car. The orange tires and straight cut gears are straight out of the best slot car era, late 60's ~ early 70's, and that what the pro's used. Unfortunately, commercial slot cars has almost died out here in Sydney, as there is only 2 traditional commercial tracks left. There are a few retail outlets that have plastic tracks for 1/32 cars, and there is a stack of local groups in home garages and clubs running 1/32 cars. Our little group prefers to run hard body, kit bashed cars in 1/24,1/25 scale like these;

Maybe I figured the list would help those who may not know which engine came with what car/truck etc, regardless of US, or Japanese, or Euro, or ? If a builder has a desire for something different like Pratt & Whitney turbine to stick in the back of a Vdub , then check the list and see what kit to get. It would get more complicated and time consuming to try and make the list cover everything, although it would be great. If it's easy to do, it will get done, but if it's hard to do, then.... Hey James W, waddyer think, you started us off. Is this going the way you thought?
-
Hi Ray, You have mail.
-
Yeah, that's gonna be a problem for maintaining the list. I think it would be good for whoever submits the information to fill in the gaps. That's what is taking me so long, I'm doing it as I go, so as not to leave gaps. There are some kits with alternate engines (eg MPC Daytona with 4cyl & V8 fwd) that don't give any info on what the alternate is, so there will be the odd blank.

Flared aluminum intake trumpets.
slotbaker replied to MonoPed's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Great ideas on this forum. You could also use a small ball bearing to tap into the end of the tube, and it gives a nice smooth result as well. The annealed tube should polish up just the same as before. -
I'm halfway thru listing my kits, and will email spreadsheet to Ray over next weekend. Hopefully Ray will add it to the site. If we all add a few, the list will soon become fairly comprehensive.

Looking good. How about adding column for scale? All modelers would probably get use out of it.
-
Sounds good. Unless there is a better way, how about we use those headings for each column and post info here separating columns with ">" so they can easily be added to the list. No spaces before or after the ">". eg Eng Make>Type>Capacity>Induction>Kit Brand>Kit Description>Kit P/n Cadillac>?>?>Supercharged>AMT>59 El Camino>? Chev>6 Cyl>?>Carb>AMT>37 Chev Cabriolet>? Chev>6 Cyl>?>Carb>AMT>51 Chev>? Chev>6 Cyl>?>Carb>AMT>60 Chev P/u>? Chrysler>Fire Power Hemi>?>Supercharged>AMT>53 Stude Starliner Cpe>? Chrysler>Slant 6 Cyl>?>AMT/MPC>Deora>? Chrysler>Firepower CrossRam (long)>?>?>Johan>68 Chrysler 300>? Desoto>Fire Dome Hemi>?>Carb/fi x8>AMT>53 F-100>? Desoto>Fire Dome>?>Eight carb x6>Monogram>Lil' Coffin>? Ford>SOHC>427>2x4bbl>AMT>66 Galaxie>? Ford>4 Cyl Winfield head>?>?>Revell>29 P/u>? Generic>?>?>3x2bbl>AMT>49 Ford>? Generic>?>?>4 or 6x3bbl>Revell>Parts Paks>? Generic>?>?>3x2bbl>Revell>Parts Paks>? Generic>?>?>Supercharded>Revell>Parts Paks>? Pontiac>?>?>1x4bbl>Revell>56 F-100>? Riley>2 port head (OHV)>?>?>Revell>31 Woody, Sedan>? Is there any value to add column for scale? I think it would be good, and not much more effort in the first place. I'll go thru my humble collection and post my stuff.

Looks like a good idea. How about a standardised format to make it easy to sort them? If we name each column, the table can be sorted in a spreadsheet. How about? Didn't know where to put these; Supercharged Blueprinter Engines Galaxy 48 Chev Revell 41 Chev P/U W Block Chev 348-409 AMT 58 Impala, 59 ElCamino, 62 BelAir Revell 53,54,55 Chev If they're in wrong spots they are easy changed, but I figure you would get the idea.
