Clear coat over decals?
MarkJ replied to Seann Anderson's topic in WIP: Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
My point is that it wasn't out in the wind, hail, rain, snow, or sleet. I have no idea how that model with 2 other models got put in a paper bag back then. I guess I thought I was through with modeling cars, but didn't want to throw them away. I'm glad I found them because they are old mpc kits, and if they were in boxes that had never been opened, they would be worth over 250 bucks each now. I'm going to deconstruct them and rebuild them as if they were new kits. They really were pretty good engineered kits that fit well put together. I'm looking forward to completing them. -

The decals on that old build up above, was in a paper bag for 40 years, in an air conditioned house, but they still turned yellow. -

Really liking it , Tim. What are those pipes at the front for? -

Nice clean build, Tim. You should be very proud. -
Brad K Snap On 2018

You say you have both . Get some white plastic spoons, try them both on the spoons and let them dry completely, some paints darken a little after they dry, then compare the spoons to the picture.. closest one wins. If its a really close match with one of them then use white primer on the model since the spoons are white. -
Clear coat over decals?

I have to clear coat my decals or they will peel off with age. Also I found a car lately that I built 45 years ago and the decals will turn yellow with age if you don't clear them. -

I scratched this one from a Revell Chevy snap kit, which would be correct for a 2016 Nascar Toyota, I think. It hopefully should be correct for a 2018 ARCA Toyota, but I would never do a Kyle Busch car. I have to have inspiration to do a build. -

Great job, Jim. That's what's sad. If you want to build a Toyota you have to transform a chevy or sometimes I guess a ford to build one. -

Awesome again, John. Always enjoy seeing your builds. -

Awesome job as usual, John. I have that kit to do, and you are inspiring me big time. You've pointed something out to me that makes me mad at myself. I should have used the testors gold on my last build for the wheels, but thought, I have a can of Tamiya gold so I used that instead. The testors gold looks a thousand times better. Oh well, live and learn. -

Two excellent builds, Neil. The colors look spot on. -
John, I totally forgot about the 600. Your right, that one should be kept, and I like the idea of race winners only for the all star race. I also would like to have the "busch clash" style race as it used to be with pole winners only. I basically just want nascar back the way it used to be when it had full stands and happy fans.
-
Wow, it sounds like the nhra is trying to copy nascar to make their championship go to some one who may not deserve it. I liked nascar when it had a pure point system because each race was more important. Not just the last ten. and if you have amassed the most points during the season you should be the champion. Like every other major motor racing organization does it. Ok, i'm off the soap box too.
-
John, I don't know that much about their playoff system . I was just saying that drag racing is a playoff system by nature because each race you have a winner and a loser and the loser goes home and the winner advances to some other winner and the winners keep moving until there is only one left. Pure playoff system by nature.
-
Well, like everything else nascar does, these days, it makes perfect sense to me. The chase has been slowly killing off the sport for years, but they still don't see it. All the other major motorsports organization think a playoff system is ridiculous, except for the nhra, which is by nature a playoff system from the very day it started. Its the only one that makes sense.

Salvinos JR Monte Carlo
MarkJ replied to MG Brown's topic in WIP: Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
Good question. I would like to see some under car views as well as some chassis views without the body over it. Engine as well. -

Amen to that. It took me forever using the snap kit body and getting it to match up with a nascar kit chassis. -

That's going to be awesome. There are so many excellent Montes Carlos to do from that era. Hopefully Powerslide will get to work on some decals for these. -
Beats me. I guess they think selling the monster energy logo on a product will induce under age people to want to consume it. Under age people don't build models. They don't have the patience for it. They want instant gratification. They buy diecasts. When were gone the model car/plane industry will probably be gone as well. JMHO.
