SEMA Show
FASTBACK340 replied to FASTBACK340's topic in 1:1 Reference Photos: Auto Shows, Personal vehicles (Cars and Trucks)
I'm so happy I'm able to do this. And as much as I don't like Vegas, I'm going to love this trip. -
SEMA Show

I'm going with a crazy cousin who's a retired NYC detective. To say it's going to be fun is an understatement. And because I've sent my Wife skiing with her Dad twice in Utah, I get to roll solo on this trip. My Boss already warned me that 5 hours will seem like 10 minutes it's so overwhelming. Yeah, definitely a Bucket List gig. Now to make plans for next years Woodward Dream Cruise. Amy wants to do that one….. -

VW Type 1 Motors

Now that Replicas & Minatures has a REAL Baja Bug casting, I need to build a replica of my old `68 Baja I had in the 80's. Plus a VW drag car I had mentioned previously. Please, make this happen! This is indeed a long overdue detail for the VW guys. -
Thank you for not just priming it. Nice paint work, nice top treatment. Excellent wheel choice. Clean build, I like it!

Steve Magnante's built model on eBay
FASTBACK340 replied to FASTBACK340's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Me too. I hate when a seller plays the "secret" reserve game. More often than not, I pass for that reason alone. If I ask you HOW MUCH YOU WANT FOR IT let the bidders know! I'm not bidding on something worth $20 if the seller is dreaming about $200…. -
Front Engine Dragster: The Old Master
FASTBACK340 replied to ApexSpeed's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Yes, we'd all like updates. I know it's summer and staying indoors building bites, but it IS a sweet project. I myself have a few drag car ideas festering in my head. Give me inspiration! -
Steve Magnante's built model on eBay

Many years ago I remember seeing a candid shot of Steve rebuilding a vintage aluminum block hi-po slant six. In his kitchen. Dude is IN the game. I met him at Englishtown last summer. Nice guy! -
Watching the video after I posted it I noticed two things. First, I had changed the directional switch and never centered the steering wheel after the repair. I'll do that tomorrow. And the second thing is you can hear a barking dog as I'm driving in the beginning of the clip. It was my Wife calling my cell phone….. As for the sound, I'm running ceramic coated TTI headers into a 2 1/2" X pipe system with Classic Chambered mufflers and oval MEGS tips. When I really stand on it it sounds like the gates of Hell have opened.

SMP 1911 Chevrolet

I had a few good tips recently so I treated myself to a new toy. I bought an ION Air Pro sports camera. It's the original version with 2 newer, higher priced versions available. I scored this on eBay for $96 with all accessories. I fabricated a nice, neat mount on the right side headrest uprights and the camera sits right in the middle. I still have to figure out how to sync it with my laptop so I can set volume levels and so forth. But anyway, let's go for a ride back to my place……

Quiet night here…..
FASTBACK340 replied to FASTBACK340's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's asking for trouble with me…… my head would explode. -
Tonight I'm actually sitting down watching the Met game in the recliner relaxing. I'm also starting to think about this years project. It seems I manage to get one decent build done a year. Started with the pre-painted Edsel, then I did some scratchy-building on the Woody and last year I tackled the Barracuda. I'll definitely finish the Pink `70 Hemi Cuda `vert before I start a project-build, but I'm undecided. One thing I know for sure, it's gonna be a drag car. Just don't know in what direction. But I also have an incredibly cool street rod idea too. Something totally original and it's killing me to build it. But slicks and roll cages are cool too. Hmmm…..

What did you see on the road today?
FASTBACK340 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I saw a plain old 4 door `57 Chevy station wagon cruising along in rush hour traffic yesterday. Rallye wheels and tinted windows…. just humming along. -
WHOA! That's a seriously twisted idea. I love it! You got us hooked…. more. Please.

I almost died several times in a `68 swing-axle Baja back in the 80's. I loved that car. I must build one.

Nice job under hood. The paint & vinyl top look very in-scale and accurate. Really nice build considering your still "knocking the rust off".
