  1. Hi Mustanglover1951, You wrote: I just bought one and was reading on the box. Says you can use a microwave to warm the mold. Question will this affect the use of my microwave for food use? How bad are the fumes or vapors ? Do you need a respirator ? Thaks for any information you can give me. No, none noticeable & no. I would recommend warming the molds, the results are better, however I would not recommend warming the molds while cooking food I have called the folks at Allumilite, and they are very helpful and friendly. 2. I guess this would have to be the one. It represents many firsts & enlightenments in my model building. I started this kit I think in the mid eighties. A couple of my (1 to1) car club buddies and I built model cars at the time. Soon after that, I was the only guy I knew building model cars. I did not know of aftermarket parts, modeling tools, model magazines, Plastruct, glue other then testers (no-tox & toxic) ect. So this build was to be a pro street '40 ford with a chop top. So I get out the "Lemon Crate" 40 ford kit an alcohol lamp and a butter knife and started to chop the top. To fill in the gap and melt it back together I would use leftover sprue. Looking back I can't imagine doing that now. Over the years... (I finished it in 2003) I would work on it and change the concept of how I would finish it. I would also put it on the back shelf and start or finish something else. Fast-forward to about 2000. I'm at a local car show and there is a model car club there with a huge diorama with 200 models on display. I swear to God I thought I was the last guy my age (adult) building model cars much less wiring and customizing them. Long story short... opps to late. I joined the club, they opened my eyes to a world of aftermarket supplies, and better ways of doing things that I would have only done with old leftover model parts and model plastic. If I couldn't find it in my huge collection of old model kits and parts. I would melt something into what I needed. Some firsts are Photo etch parts, aluminum parts, resin parts, Scratch building using styrene plastic tube and sheets, aluminum tubes and brass rod, flocking... With these new materials, and glues and model building friends came a new confidence that helped me brush off adversity. I was close to finished when a bottle of 6 min. epoxy fell from a shelve above my workbench. Within days it was back together, but now I was tired of the yellow and since I had to repaint anyway, I thought a, Phoenix up from the flames paint job would be more appropriate. That is why this is my favorite Model in my collectiom. Not my best build, Lots of problems with the fit of the tilt front and the gap betreen the running boards and front cap. But that's fine, I'm a better builder thanks to all this kit represents. BTW back when I thought I was the only guy still building model cars, that nice guy at the local hobby store selling me my models and glue was Augie... Who knew? I would find out in 2002, Augie also built models. My 40 Ford truck with Augies' bike on back. This was also Augies’ favorite of my builds. Thanks for the inspiration guys, Jefbo
  3. Hi Tim, You wrote: Thanks for asking, here's a few better photos. Enjoy, Jefbo
  4. Hey Tim, You wrote: Thanks, I just shot some photos today and will post shortly. Now the other trike belongs to a friend of mine. I asked him to send some photos so I could post them. I did a search of my hard drive and found a few shots of Joel's trike so I'll post them for now. The green GTX is also a friend build. I will look for photos of that also. Joe "EL"s Trike: Thanks for looking, Jefbo
  5. Hey 82notch, Excellent! What a great feeling. However I disagree about the AAR 'cuda. You wrote: Yeah... sort of, It was someone else’s garage... and box of models Jefbo
  6. Happy New Year! From South Beach Jefbo
  7. Worked on this a little today. I'm building this for a good friend of mine, it's based on his car. I just have a few things to add, such as taillights, rear shocks and maybe a steering box. Can you guess what kit I used for the body? Kind of a trick question. This is the 1:1 it's based on. Thanks for looking, Jefbo
  8. Very nice Steve. I love that style your building. Looking forward to seeing the step by step of this one.
  9. Wow, I like! I agree with Marc, and raul, I zeroed in on the widened rims instantly. Please tell, what wheel/tire set is on the rear. It apears to me you widened the stock rims or painted and added a stock centercap to a drag rim. Jefbo
  10. Hey guys, You wrote: Dig that trike! I must have joined the board after that contest. I have one I can post. "TWISTER" Based on the Mail Trike but as in most of my builds, I can't let well enough alone. I cut out a red Maltese cross rear window out of a plastic lid from a hart shaped candy box lid. Did some HOK airbrushing and kit bashed some decals. But what was really fun was the springer front end. This was the first time I worked with brass. I took some square brass rod, put it in a vise, grabbed the other end with a vice grip and started to twist. Took a lot of trial and error and spent material. A fun build. I need to take some better photos. Jefbo
  11. You the man Marco! Thanks again. Did you finish your L-700 yet? I can't wait to see it done. Jefbo
  12. Hey Mark, You wrote Thanks, They're a big help. So far that's the only reference to that motor I have. As far as my builds go, it's never to late. Jefbo
  13. Here are some more photos of the build. I'm still looking for info on this motor so I can wire and run water lines etc... This is roughly what the paint will look like. And this is what I'm building the tractor for. A five-car automobile Trailer and five Hemi 'cudas (three still on the bench) All advice and comments are welcome. Thanks for looking, Jefbo
  14. Welcome Frank, Very cool , you must keep us posted on the progress. jefbo
  15. Hi Marco, You wrote: Thanks, I will put them to good use. I decided to use the 361-ci engine that came with the kit, just dress it up a little. I'll post the progress soon. I'm not familiar with the motor at all. I want to wire and run hoses and I don't have a clue to where half the stuff goes. In my search for photo on the net, the one thing I have found a lot of is other modelers asking if anyone has photos of this dodge. So if you have more photos... please post. a big THANKS!, Jefbo
  16. Thanks, You wrote: YES! It's a Hot Rod, but I'm not sure how yet. I'm so unfamiliar with this truck, (and trucks in general) and have had such a hard time finding good reference materials that I can't help but modify it. That being said, I have six Hemi 'cuda kits most on the bench still, and I wanted to have a rig and car carrier to display them together. So I will come up with a logo for some phantom speed shop, and slap some custom paint on, and yes, some speed accessories for the engine. I need to build the cab and engine area up a little more so can see how much extra room I have to work with. I did build the kit engine up so far... but that doesn't mean I have to use it. Most likely will use it for mock up purposes. Thanks for looking, Jefbo
  17. Hi all, I'm making a custom L-700 to haul my hemi 'cuda models. I just got the rolling chassis put together and so far all has gone smooth to this point except for some small issues with the front suspension. I will do that part differently next time. Here are the photos up to this point: Let me know what you think, Jefbo
  18. Hi SICARD, You wrote: Thanks, any photos are a big help. The photos I desire the most however are the one that show the details, such as interior, engine, hoses & lines etc. I very much enjoyed seeing your L-700. If I came across one on the street, I suspect it would be a dead on match to your build. Because of the lack of reference material, I decided to go the custom rout. I will post the progress photos in the Model Trucks Forum. Jefbo
  19. I'll post one more painting from about the same timeline. This photo did not come out very well. The colors are a little off, and the reflections in the red paint read as black paint and should not. I never got a chance to re-shoot this painting as it was stolen from my Lincoln Road studio while I was out of town. The painting is: Title: RED '34 Size: 36" X 48" Medium: Acrylic on canvas Completed: 1988 Thanks again for the kind words, Jefbo
  20. Hi Harry, You wrote: Thanks, I'm very impressed with your work Harry. Your Photoshop skills are amazing. That painting is from my pre Photoshop days. Like you I spend a lot of time in Photoshop now, however I still create the painting. Here is another painting from around the same time. The painting is: Title: MOTORCYCLE Size: 24" X 36" Medium: Acrylic on canvas Completed: 1986 I have no idea where this painting is now. It was on loan to a gallery in Chevy Chase MD. some years back and disappeared. The gallery owner never said what happened, then stopped taking my calls. I feel one day I'll come across it again. Jefbo
  21. Hi jaffa, I am building the L-700 presently. I'm a bit out of my comfort zone, but having a lot of fun still. Aaronw is right on with his comments. I have spent more time with each piece of plastic cleaning flash & filling sinkholes than I have with any other model. That being said, all pieces have gone together well so far. I am also out of my element by building a truck model, so I count on doing research on line. There's not much out there. Not a problem, I'm going to build a custom truck. I'll try to post what I have done to this point within the next 24 hours. IMO Get the kit... It's cool and it's worth it. Jefbo
  22. Well I just started my Fotki site and the art folders started going in last night... or was it early this morning . This is the only Painting I still have from the early days. My wife thinks I'm not willing to part with it. She may be right. The painting is: Title: '23 MAGIC Size: 30" X 40" Medium: Acrylic on canvas Completed: 1986 Done entirely freehand airbrush, my records say I completed this painting in July of 1986, but I think it was finished more around 1982 or so. In gathering a bunch of works for an exhibition I may have needed to gather information that as a young kid I just didn't keep. Yes in many ways I still consider myself a young kid. (You guys are modelers... you know what I'm talkin' about ) So we just made it look like the body of work was done more recently. I did a whole series of paintings where the focus was on reflective and shiny surfaces. Mostly show cars and bikes but also included urban cityscapes with stainless steel and mirrored glass buildings. Even in the urban landscapes I had to include the automobiles and the wet pavement. Thanks for lookin' jefbo
  23. Thanks Jairus, This tread is dear to my heart also. You wrote: I was born in 1960, and in the late sixties, I would wear out the pages of my CARtoons Magazines like my son wears out the discs on his Xbox games. I owe a great deal of my art training to the artist of CARtoons. I would sit for hours with a stack of my moms "typing" paper, pencil and Magazine copying each and every drawing. I would work all night just on wheels and tires. At a very young age I learned the illusion of rendering 3-D and foreshortening. In elementary art class the other kids would treat we as if I were a magician. I'm going to have to see if I can dig up an old drawing and post it here. Jefbo
  24. Hi George, You wrote: Thanks, I do build other stuff. You might say I'm all over the place. I build a little bit of everything. Funny you say eye candy; my background is in painting (Fine Art & Custom Auto) so I tend to find myself putting flames or graphics on most things I build. I find my paint tends to over shadow some of my modeling skill shortcomings. I just started a Fotki account and need to start putting some stuff up. Here's a few samples. jefbo
  25. Ooops... Sorry guys, I don't know what happened to the poll field Oh well. I'll let you know how it turns out. I will still read comments and keep score on a piece of paper I'll look forward to the summer and get that club info out to you shortly Mr. Cranky. jefbo
