Thanks everyone for your feedback...looking at my Fotki site stats it appears that quite a few of you clicked on the above and went to the site for the full how-to details. Summarizing the paint approach briefly (you can go to the site if you want more details), I used a nine-color spray can paint fade comprimsed of Testors One Coat Metalflake-style Lacquer spray paints over the Silver Metalflake color in the same paint line, topped by One Coat Wet Look Clear, rubbed out with Tamiya Rubbing Compound and finished with The Treatment Model Car Wax. The panels were taped off with Tamiya masking tape before the nine color fade was sprayed. Best regards and thanks again....TIM

It's one of my most favorite 1/25th scale drag/ski boat models, and the subject of my first On-Line How-To. Just click on each image at the attached link, and the 28 how-to steps are displayed individually. There are also about 15 or so out-take photos of the completed model. Here's the link to the how-to steps. Thanks for looking.....TIM My link

A neat video for Mopar fans
tim boyd replied to Jim Gibbons's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow. That one is a little too close to home. Transported me back to the day when the '71 Charger SE was my favorite car....and then 3 years later when I ordered my own '74 Road Runner which was based on the same platform as that '71 in the video.....and the guy's last name is even Boyd.....cool video, thanks for posting. /TIM -

'70 Cuda question
tim boyd replied to Cesar Bossolani's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll try not to be inflammatory here, but this thread is just one more example of why a truly correct 1970 Plymouth 'cuda should be near or at the top of the list for consideration of newly-tooled 1/25th scale kits. I've done everything I know how, to behind the scenes, to promote this idea. Who knows, maybe someday it might take hold...then again, maybe not. For now, I strongly agree that the best approach is starting with an MPC 1970-74 'cuda, or the Jo-Han/Testors '71 'cuda shell. Either way, good luck with your project! TIM -
Tim....great job. All your extra effort on parts like the headers and the radiator supports really shows off well. Thanks for showing us.....TIM BOYD

Link to about 130 pictures taken yesterday at the Billetproof North event, which moved a year ago from somewhat primitive facilities in Davisburg, Michigan, to a terrific site for a car show just across the Huron River from Depot Town, Ypsilanti (known to car guys as the location of the world's longest running Hudson dealership. Enjoy....TIM My link

What kit has a good Ford Y-Block?
tim boyd replied to Terry Sumner's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
My favorite is a combination of the Revell '56 Ford pickup block, with the hot rod parts from the AMT '56 Vicky, and the valve covers from the AMT '57 T-Bird.....TIM -
What kit has a good Ford Y-Block?
tim boyd replied to Terry Sumner's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If we're talking '58 Edsel kits, I don't believe the original AMT '58 Esdel had an engine. The newly tooled '58 Edsel from AMT-Ertl in the late 1990's had an FE if my memory is correct. The only '58 Edsels that had the MEL, I believe, were the big-bodied (shared with the '58 Mercury) top two series (the lower two series were shared with Ford). And as far as I know, both the models were based on the series that shared their bodies with Ford. Someone correct me if I'm wrong....it's always dangerous for me to trust my memory alone! TIM -

MCM December Issue #155 Arrived Today
tim boyd replied to Crazy Ed's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Terry....thanks for the info; I had not heard that (or maybe I did and long ago forgot it). You have every reason to be proud....locating the work of Mike, Augie, Dave Shuklis, and others of these iconic early model car builders added immensely to the credibility of the museum and I am sure prompted many of the contributions from other builders later on. Best regards....TIM -

Pontiac and AMC Engine colors
tim boyd replied to Patrick2005's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For the early 1960's Pontiac Engines, the Tamiya Sprayc color, i believe it is called "coral Blue", is to my eye a near exact match. For the AMC engine, you can try custom mixing the color, but for the best accuracy, i recommend purchasing a can of AMC Engine Blue spray paint. It will last you probably for the rest of tyour life, and can be mail-ordered abnd arrive at your door for most likely less than $15 in just a few days. I also recoommend 1.1 scale engine paint for the Silver Blue metallic color for mid-1960's to early 1970's Pontiacs, as Testor's Pontiac Engine blue brush paint is too silver./not enough blue for my taste. Heh Sport...that wagon is beyond cool! My dad had a '71 Sport Suburban (95% same as your '70) bought new....and I took his '69 Chrysler Town and Country (similar body) and added big/bigger blackwalls surrounding Rocket Mags (the poor guys' Cragar SS imagation)...it looked wicked if I do say so myself. Of course, that was just about 40 years ago for me, and looks like yours is in your fleet now. Just super-cool. Congrats....TIM

Mark Gustavson/Model car Museum
tim boyd replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The museum is a worthy cause and any kits or boxes donated will be put to good use; if rare or otherwise not already part of an historical collection, items can be included in the fund-raising auction at GSL which benefits the museum by producing revenues which pay or offset operating costs of the museum. ***** What Danno said. I have an article on the museum submitted to Model Cars WHQ though I don't know if the pictures are high enough quality to be used, but rest assured, the museum is terrific and well worth a trip if you are anywhere nearby. All serious model car builders should visit this place during their life. It will blow you away.....TIM -
