  1. How about quite possibly the sweetest boattail speedster this side of an Auburn? And with a Corvette V-8 to boot! HRM November 1958
  2. I'm glad you're enjoying them Steve. I could literally post hundreds of photos every night! There is such good stuff in these old magazines. (Just to give you an idea, as of tonight I have gone from HRM 1948 through 1959. This amounted to roughly 10,000 pages!)
  3. A twin engine dragster/streamliner with very handsome looks...
  4. I noticed a subset of dragsters like one where a small and light auto body - in this case a Fiat - would be placed toward the back, or hung off the rear behind the axle altogether. It makes for a very interesting look.
  5. Okay, so I couldn't resist just one more Ford. But this Model T was just so doggone good looking! HRM May 1958
  6. Interesting nose job on what I think was a '56 Corvette... HRM July 1958
  7. Excellent article on the Reventlow roadster
  8. A very tasteful sedan made up of parts from a myriad of cars, it came out like the beautiful baby of an Italian mama and American dad! I don't know how easy it would be to replicate in plastic, but it sure would be fun to try.
  9. Great article and photos on a wrecked Mercury sedan which was repurposed as a truck. I believe the article said it was a 1957, and had quite a few pictures of the build. This would be fun to scratch-build.
  10. This is a Ferrari I would love to recreate, and a body design I've never seen anywhere else. And the story that goes with it is awesome... HRM November 1957
  11. HRM had an obvious affinity for the '30's hot rods, so I skimmed over many gorgeous cars so as not to bore you folks with the same style over and over again, but every once in a while something so wild would pop up that I felt the need to share. Such is this creation with an exhaust system like no other. I'm not sure what they named it, but it should have been called "Pipe Dream"!
  12. Anybody ever see this movie advertised in HRM November 1957? Makes for great wall art, but I suspect it was a "B" movie...
  13. It's fascinating how many fiberglass bodied vehicles were featured in HRM during this time period, and how many ads showed interesting shapes to rebody existing cars. I realize most of these "kits" never made it onto a vehicle, but the ones that did like this creation below certainly were interesting and beautiful in their own right.
  14. And of course one of the most famous customs/ models of all time - Ala Kart. This one had an article in October 1958 with great pictures of the car to aid in detailing the scale model.
  15. And for those times when only strange will do; a '57 dragster with a V-12 airplane engine driving a propeller! What could go wrong with that? HRM August 1957
  16. Here's one you don't see every day; a '57 Mercury speed racer - complete with fin. Strange and sexy at the same time!
  17. Love it. Now I gotta get me one of those!
  18. I have this Corvette SS in 1:18 scale diecast from AutoArt, and it is a beauty. For those wishing to replicate it as a scale model themselves, there is a good article with lots of photos of this vehicle in HRM June 1957
  19. If there was only one dragster I could ever build, it would be this DeSoto dragster from the cover of HRM November 1956.
  20. BTW; for any of you wondering why I'm doing this write-up, it's simply that I feel like I fell into a diamond mine, and just want to share the find with friends! The pics I'm posting are actually ones I'm saving in my own archives for ideas on future builds. So, that having been said, tonight we push on through to the end of the '50's.
  21. Just playing with you. I love anything you build!
  22. The PE set is a bit pricey, but perhaps you could use the image in my post of the decals to make your own? At least the picture is a place to start. As far as the molds are concerned, I agree with you, but it certainly does not appear much was done to bring them up to current. Perhaps we can look at it as a little extra challenge we can be just that more proud we can overcome as modelers (at least that's what I told myself in between swear words putting the top on) BTW, if you want images from the book, let me know and I'll upload them.
  23. Just beautiful, and what a bit of disco era coolness!
  24. I'm glad you're enjoying them Jim. I've easily got 50 hours into the first ten years of HRM issues so far, and figured not everybody would have the time to go over every page as I'm doing. For me, it is not only an education in hot rod history, but of Americana in general.
