  1. And of course one of the most famous customs/ models of all time - Ala Kart. This one had an article in October 1958 with great pictures of the car to aid in detailing the scale model.
  2. And for those times when only strange will do; a '57 dragster with a V-12 airplane engine driving a propeller! What could go wrong with that? HRM August 1957
  3. Here's one you don't see every day; a '57 Mercury speed racer - complete with fin. Strange and sexy at the same time!
  4. Love it. Now I gotta get me one of those!
  5. I have this Corvette SS in 1:18 scale diecast from AutoArt, and it is a beauty. For those wishing to replicate it as a scale model themselves, there is a good article with lots of photos of this vehicle in HRM June 1957
  6. If there was only one dragster I could ever build, it would be this DeSoto dragster from the cover of HRM November 1956.
  7. BTW; for any of you wondering why I'm doing this write-up, it's simply that I feel like I fell into a diamond mine, and just want to share the find with friends! The pics I'm posting are actually ones I'm saving in my own archives for ideas on future builds. So, that having been said, tonight we push on through to the end of the '50's.
  8. Just playing with you. I love anything you build!
  9. The PE set is a bit pricey, but perhaps you could use the image in my post of the decals to make your own? At least the picture is a place to start. As far as the molds are concerned, I agree with you, but it certainly does not appear much was done to bring them up to current. Perhaps we can look at it as a little extra challenge we can be just that more proud we can overcome as modelers (at least that's what I told myself in between swear words putting the top on) BTW, if you want images from the book, let me know and I'll upload them.
  10. Just beautiful, and what a bit of disco era coolness!
  11. I'm glad you're enjoying them Jim. I've easily got 50 hours into the first ten years of HRM issues so far, and figured not everybody would have the time to go over every page as I'm doing. For me, it is not only an education in hot rod history, but of Americana in general.
  12. And likewise, it would be so cool to do up a '56 Mercury in the colors and graphics of this racer.
  13. Wouldn't it be fun to build this 1956 DeSoto, complete with Official Pace Car paint and graphics? HRM June 1956
  14. A pair of studly Studebaker customs. I personally favor the one on the left, but both have very interesting touches worthy of incorporating into a model.
  15. I saw one of these Bosley racers at the Petersen museum a couple years back, and it is a dramatic car to say the least. HRM October 1955
  16. Now, who wouldn't want to travel the country in this setup? Seems like a great idea for a diorama... HRM July 1955
  17. Somebody actually raced B.A.T. VII?!!! All the B.A.T. cars as fascinating, and I know many have been reproduced in 1:43 scale miniatures. I do not know of any, however, that were done in 1:24 - 25 scale. HRM June 1955
  18. Sleek streamliner design called the "Belond Miracle Power Special" that I would love to build. HRM June 1955 showed how it was created.
  19. Wonderful article on a highly customized '49 Ford truck. This would certainly test the skills of any scale model builder to replicate. HRM March 1955
  20. Okay, where did we leave off? Aah yes, 1955. The January issue of HRM had this little photo among their shots of Motorama. Quite a beauty, and very emblematic of the fiberglass customs that were being made at the time.
  21. I think I will double-dog dare our friend @Claude Thibodeau to build this one since he is such a lover of Bonneville streamliners!
  22. I haven't had that experience at all, but will be on the lookout
  23. Michael, take a peek at my post for decal and other information. Hope it helps.
  24. And finally, the "Shadoff Special" Bonneville streamliner. Did anyone make a scale model of this one? BTW; Grant Piston Rings seems to have been the number one advertiser for HRM, beginning with their very first issue. This one is from HRM December 1954.
