  1. Looks great Chuck, I always enjoy your builds and backstories. Allison Jordan was named after the engine and transmission manufacturer, right?
  2. I've got a pile of Hess vans that I intend to rebuild as various specs of the GMC Motorhome (one as a 1973 Glacier or Sequoia, one as a Transmode shuttle bus, one as a sci-fi build with the turbine engines from the Amtronic). I've split the body on one and I plan on holding the halves together with magnets. I did it this way so I could lift out the interior tub in one piece and not split the body in any places that were solid panels on the 1:1, but the interior tub is pretty much useless anyway. (it's all one piece except the steering wheel and the cockpit chairs, so draft angles make the dashboard totally unrealistic) Having the body split this way will make it easy to show off the interior, but it'll probably create headaches with registering the halves of the body to each other. I'll see how building this one works out and either keep doing it or switch to removing the roof and assembling everything right side up on a solid floor. I don't think I could do the Repstock method of assembling everything upside down through the bottom, my brain doesn't really work that way.
  3. Still have the Nissan March and Daihatsu Move? Check out my stash on Scalemates; if you see anything you'd like in exchange, just ask. I've got projects in mind for some of my stash but not all of it. The El Camino, Piranha dragster, Ford GT Le Mans, and all the Mythoi are all definitely up for trade.
  4. Some of Hasegawa's 1:24 figures are dressed in ordinary 1970s/1980s attire. There's also the Tamiya Campus Friends sets that come with a scale motor scooter.
  5. I would go for the Revell 1991 Caprice too, the bubble B-body cars are very similar to the square bodies underneath. But if you're going full detail you would have to change out the engine's air filter setup for a carburettor and round air cleaner.
  6. If you're just looking for the UPP (the engine/transaxle/front subframe), the MPC Californian got repopped last year so it should still be plentiful on hobby store shelves and online. Converting one to stock Toronado body would be an ordeal though.
  7. Somebody I follow on Instagram recently bought a G-body Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe, a version of the personal luxury car with an extended rear window that was produced for NASCAR homologation purposes. Around the same time, my boyfriend bought each of us a 1988 Buick Regal promo model and had the idea of a build-off for customizing them. My thought process went something like... "the Monte Carlo and Regal were both G-bodys in the 80s then a new generation was released on the W platform... Monte Carlo Aerocoupe... fastbacks are cool... what if W-body Regal Aerocoupe?" I bought a 1996 Corvette promo for cheap on eBay to scavenge the hatch glass, centre console, and seats from, held the parts next to each other, and started hacking away. I might have done better with a slightly bigger rear window, but I think I can extend the C-pillar with styrene strip to make the lines flow nicely. Everything is just mocked up with blu-tack now. I've cut out the trunk lid to follow the contours of the Corvette hatch. I cut off the seat bosses and filed the centre tunnel a bit for clearance to mount the Corvette seats and console. I also cut off the interior tub's package shelf -- the Corvette's trunk floor will fit behind the rear seat instead. A side view of the position of the rear window -- I'll close the gap with styrene strip Top view of how everything should fit together with the new rear window and trunk floor
  8. hi! I'm Alison. Born and raised in Flint, Michigan, currently live in Ferndale just outside of Detroit. My interests tend toward 1980s and 1990s cars and station wagons, both in 1:1 (my daily driver is a 1991 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon, and I also own a 1989 Lincoln Town Car and a 2009 Mini Cooper Clubman JCW) and in models (I have a whole shelf of 1:64 diecast longroofs and I collect and mutilate 90s promos). I've been lurking here for a while and now I have a WIP to show off, so I decided to register!
