Yep! Powerslide hood pin decals.
-
Found this kit on eBay for cheap and decided to give it a shot. These pro finish kits come pretty much pre-painted and the only decals are the contingencies and a few main sponsor decals. I added a seatbelt, radio wire, and hood pin decals and painted the side skirts black. Cleared over the kit plastic and I thought it turned out pretty great for what it is! Thanks for looking!!

I vaguely remember Ward racing this car when I was a kid. Came across the decals online for cheap and thought it would be a cool, obscure build. I have a personal connection to Clemson University and thought this would be a perfect addition to my collection. The older decals were extremely brittle and it’s honestly a miracle I got them on as well as I did. If you look closely you can see a couple of small cracks. Completely OOB with the exceptions of the decals and a seatbelt decal. Thanks for looking!!

Found this on eBay packaged with my Derrike Cope kit for $10 for both, so $5 apiece. Box stock with box decals. In the spirit of how these kits were meant for kids, I followed the kit directions and laid the pin striping down first, and then brush painted the black! Honestly didn’t turn out too bad! With the AMT snap kits, the giant wheel hubs are the worse part, but was a fun little slump buster!!

Found this gem on eBay for around $5. These weren’t bad little kits and I loved that they came with decals instead of stickers like the Monogram snap kits. The decals for the checkerboard were more of a red so they don’t blend that great with the paint, but it didn’t turn out bad in my opinion! The worst part of these kits were the gigantic wheel hubs to accommodate the “snap” function of the wheels. I left the entire wheel gloss black to try and sort-of blend them in a bit. Thanks for looking!!

Unreal. That’s a great job!

I have a built monogram kit from years ago as well, but these AMT kits aren’t too shabby!
-
That’s cool! One of the best looking cars to ever race. The windows are just tape and good old black paint. Coating them in future seals up the paint well.
-
Nope! Just the set of the box decals. You had to be careful with them, but they held up well. And, I agree. The chassis and other components leave a lot to be desired, but the bodies look great in my opinion.

Controversially, I’ve always had an affinity for these old AMT NASCAR kits. Not as good as the Revell/Monogram kits, but I actually think these Pontiac bodies are closer to the real car than the Monogram kits were. Completely box stock other than a seatbelt decal. Even used the kit tire decals. These old AMT decals hold up well, you just have to work slowly and be patient with them.

Looks great! I loved this car. Now I have an idea for a future project!

Well, if it is, it ain’t getting fixed now. Hahaha

This is my second one of these kits. They look great when built, but they are kind of a bear to build. I tried to replicate the Penske wheels by painting the wheels gloss black and then outlining the edges with a chrome pen. This looks more like the real thing, in my opinion, than the full chrome wheels that come on the die cast. Added seat belts and airbrushed the black over the rocker panels, roof, and roof pillars. Everything else is the kit decals. Thanks for looking!

Revell kit. Box stock, but my little one lost my taillight lenses so I had to fashion some new ones! Loved this kit. Tried to replicate the box art. I’m pretty proud of how this one turned out.

Andretti 1988 Lola AMT kit

Yeah, they were pretty good!! -
Stumbled across this kit for pretty cheap on eBay so I figured I would give it whirl just to change it up some. Felt that it came out pretty well other than the heat shields wouldn’t allow the back to sit down flush so I left them off. IndyCals helped me get a little more accurate look and I added some thrown together seat belts.

Rattle can Rustoleum if memory serves. I’ll try to dig it out and let you know

This started life as the Danica/Revell kit with decals from Mike’s. Never had many issues with Powerslide, but I had an awful time with the black decals that run up the B pillar and over the window. The were very brittle and did not want to lay down and stick. Used yellow colored wires instead of the black that most teams use just to have a little pop of color under the hood. I lowered the stance a little, but probably should have gone a little lower.

Salvinos kit/decals. The hood had an AWFUL warp in it so I had to do my best to straighten it back out. Don’t know if anyone else has had that issue with these kits. The back two plug wires on each side run behind and under the heat shields. I just ran the others over the top to have something to look at. I’ve always loved the story of him winning the 500 in what was, at that time, a show car. Great looking livery to boot.
-
Yeah, it looks great when finished, but certainly not the most enjoyable to build in my opinion.

I remember this show car coming through my home town when I was a kid. Loved this car because of that. Tried my hand at stencil painting the Goodyear on the tires and, needless to say, fouled it up a bit. I reckon they wouldn’t have been perfect in real life anyway. Dove into the spare decals to find some contingency decals to better replicate what it actually had at the track on most days. Other than that, box stock with kit decals. Surprised at how well these decals had held up through the years.

My first of the Next-Gen builds. Started life as the Chase Elliott kit, but wasn’t happy with the body and/or paint. Therefore, I stripped it down and started again. That’s why the tires have the modern yellow print and not the throwback. Broke the small shark fin during the transition, so waiting on a replacement.

Salvinos kit. Pretty much out if the box except for the seatbelts and a few other interior decals. I realize the belts wouldn’t have been red, nor the headrest gray, I just like the pop of color with the black chassis and roll cage. I found the decals around the nose to be a bit fiddle and brittle! Thanks for looking! Probably not up to the standards of some, but with a one year old at home, you get done what you can! Haha
