  1. What a cool memory. Thanks for sharing. It makes me remember my first kit. It was a AMT 1940 Ford it was the one that is blue on the box art ( this was around 1984) my Dad came up with how we would build it and did most of the work - bright red, no hood blown Olds motor with sewing thread plug wires and Keystone mags. I thought it was the coolest things ever! I built a couple more 40's after that on my own never came out quite the same. Thanks to e-bay I have bought that same blue AMT 40 Ford kit and will build it as close to that one my Dad and I did in 1984.
  2. Cranky has a "how to article" in this months issue? I need to make a run to the city and pick it up. Shiny is great but the art of "salt" is the best.
  3. I hear ya. I can understand how "unchopping" can be a problem. I would have been just as happy with an unchopped coupe.
  4. Nu-finish is that the stuff in the orange bottle?
  5. I love that shade of black. What did you use?
  6. I am actually looking foward to the Revell 48 ford kit.
  7. where did the rims/tires come from in the first picture? They look perfect
  8. Thanks for all the comments. I am going to try my hand at this again. Harry- Yep sure did followed the steps Cranky put on here;his builds on the forum are some of my favorites.
  9. I only hope I can pull something like this off someday. WOW very cool.
  10. Okay here it is. Does not hold a candle to the ones I have seen on here but it is my first attempt at a "salt" paint job. The kit is a Mongram 36 Ford from the early iron series. The motor came from the parts box and the wheels and tires came from the Revell 30 Ford woody (Good Guys) kit. I also tried to make the top look more realistic by covering it with tissue paper soaked in a white glue/water mix before I painted it. Did not come out quite like I had envisioned it but did not feel it looked bad either. I learned alot on this build and will try this "salt" trick again. On a side note I would have never thought to try this if it wasn't for this forum and the people here. Living in Oklahoma this is as close to a model club I can get. My thanks to Gregg and everyone here who keeps this forum going.
  11. thanks for the comments all. Yeah I tried my luck on the "salt" process on the 36 ford for my first try I was pleased, definaly must try again. I am tring to get better with taking and posting pictures I'll try and post more tonight. Oh and the Nova was a case of "When decals go bad" The black stripes on both the hood and trunk lifted when I clear coated it.
  12. Is the floor pan painted red primer? I like it.
  13. My son and I just started this one. He picked out the color. At first I was not too crazy about the color choice -Testors gold base with transparent green as a top coat but now I'm not hating it.
  14. Bob very cool. I have this kit started but have set it aside due to the fact it is well beyond my ability. My kit does not fit well at all and was not going to end well. yours looks outstanding nice job.
  15. Mike thanks for the info. I had plans to build my own but I will check these sites out also. I never even thought of the dangers of an explosion. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.
  16. You can find a paint booth for $125.00? Is something you can find online?
  17. Orange it is. Thanks guys, off to the garage...
  18. I have a question. The air cleaner on the 440 in the MPC (RC2) 70 coronet shows to be oranage on the outside of the box but the instuctions show it to be black. Which one is factory correct?
  19. Wow what a great build. It reminds me of trucks that you would see in the parking lot of my old high school. Of course when you open the hood there would be an old beatup V8 from a LTD... mmm ideas.... Thanks for sharing, I love the wheels now where did I put that 50 ford kit.......
  20. I always have trouble with black paint, yours looks great. The detail on the drivers seat is darn good. I like it!!!!
  21. Fishing line for fuel lines... never thought of that one, very nice touch
  22. This thread is continuing proof that this forum and builders like you are an asset to this hobby. I have resently managed to pry two young lads away from the video game console. I was just finishing Revell's new 68 mustang, when it caught both of their attention. One of the boys got his Dad to buy him a 07 Revell mustang this past week and just yesterday my son says while we are at Hobby lobby that he wants to build a new mustang also. He is 15 and builds once in a great while so I jumped at the chance to hook him back in. This moring I find this thread and all I can say is WOW! This is perfect to get these two boys started. Outstanding step by step progress, and hopfully I can get a couple of young builders pointed in the right direction. Again, Albert thanks for sharing your build it is outstanding! Now I am off to find that 07 mustang I got for Christmas and join these two boys. And on a side note I was building at the kitchen table that night instead of in the hobby room---- note to self invite more people into the hobby room....mmmm more space, more chairs. I got it!!! tell the wife I need to build a BIGGER hobby romm!!!!
  23. Any one have any good ideas on how to fix a body that is badly warped. It is a 1/16 MPC Charger, it looks like something heavy was sitting on top of it for a long time. Too cool of a kit not to try and fix.... any ideas??
  24. Outstanding build I love the colors, by the way how did you get the carpet so even. I can not seem to get mine where it does not look "patchy"
  25. I would love to join a a club. I live west of Ardmore. I would not mind the drive just to meet up with people with the same interests. So you bet I am interested, let me know.
