  1. Body paint looks really close - well done! Wheels look great as well. Steve
  2. Thanks, Brian - I’ll post an update when I get more of the engine together.
  3. Cool project! Man... it's a lot of work getting rid of that thick flash... Steve
  4. Since I hadn't done much airbrushing (took a class that was more about t-shirt design and primed some parts for a project I never finished years ago), I decided to clean my airbrush and practice on some spoons with Vallejo acrylics. I'd prefer not to use anything but water-based acrylics, so I wanted to see what what the metal colors looked like. I read that for the aluminum color, I should prime first with Vallejo gloss black primer and then do the metal color coats. I practiced on a few spoons just to get the hang of how much paint to use and controlling the airbrush and by the time I did a few, i felt confident enough to try my engine block. Here is what my setup looks like: Here is the block after one light and one medium coat of the gloss black primer: And here are a few pictures of the block after a couple of coats of the Vallejo Metal Color Aluminum: The lighting wasn't great for these pictures, but in person I think it actually looks metal-like for water-based acrylic. Anyway... not much progress, but I feel comfortable with my airbrush again!
  5. Small Update - I am combining parts from two different engines and some separate parts, so i've been test fitting stuff. I actually glued part of the engine that I'll be painting the same color as soon as my paint arrives. Anyway, here are some pictures of where this is headed: Steve
  6. I appreciate you checking it out, Robert!
  7. Thanks Terry - I've been assembling tons of reference material - the real question for me is how far to go with the detail.
  8. Duplicate... sorry...
  9. Thanks Marcos! Was waiting for a few things, but hope to get back to it this weekend.
  10. Thanks, Tim - your builds have been a major inspiration to me getting back into the hobby!
  11. Thanks again for the welcome, guys!
  12. Thanks Mark, but I'm just kind of stumbling through this, learning as I go.
  13. Thanks Paul - For sure i'll be asking lots of questions!
  14. Small world - I grew up in Holbrook, which is right near Patchogue. We moved to East Setauket when I was 15. I lived on LI until I moved to LA to go to college.
  15. Thanks for the warm welcome, guys!
  16. For sure - i remember my first attempt at spark plug wiring was black thread. Did not work well. 😄
  17. Thanks John - hopefully I'll get some more time to work on it this weekend.
  18. Such a great build! - was watching it take shape in your WIP thread.
  19. Great builds, Jeff!
  20. Hi folks - new member here. I've already made a few other posts, but thought I'd introduce here myself anyway. I've been a lurker here for awhile, but decided to get back into the hobby and start building. I guess the last build I did was back when I was 12 (65 now). I grew up on Long Island and my parents used to take us to the drag races at National Speedway (including the Spring Nationals when they used to hold them there) when I was a kid. From then on, I was obsessed with drag cars. I started building Pro Stocks, Top Fuel and Funny cars straight from the kits when I was 9 years old. Eventually I started trying to detail the engines a bit more, but never got that far with it beyond spark plug wires. I sort of drifted out of building when i took up the guitar and got really into playing in bands. Anyway, I've been reading and learning from the many talented people here and have put together a little area in the garage to start building again. I bought some tools and some parts and I'm going to try to build a Pro Mod with a scratch brass chassis. We'll see how it goes, but I'm excited to get back into the hobby. Looking forward to feedback and learning from everyone here! Steve
  21. Will do, Anton!
