  1. Hey All, Group question. What colour should the engine block be painted? The instructions show the block as being red, but it looks from what I can find online that only the 223 I6 was red. The kit provided engine is a V8 which I believe should be painted black. Also, what colour would valve covers and the air cleaner be? I've seen both black and gold for these. Thanks!
  2. I've started my next build. While waiting for paint to dry on my Gran Torino I was able to quickly jump ahead on this guy. The kit's falling together, and no major issues so far. I think I'll do this one as a two-tone, factory stock- White and Springmist Green
  3. Making some more progress. I've sprayed the interior colour. The vinyl looks too flat and a bit too purple to me, so I'm going to give it a spray of Tamiya X-23 which should bring up the gloss, and enhance the blue. I'm basing my interior colour on these references that I found online. I've also done some work on the chassis. everything is installed underneath, and I can start to do some initial weathering
  4. Thanks guys! I appreciate the encouragement, and advice. Chassis is assembled, the seats and interior has been painted, and I intend to prime the body later on today. I'll post some more pictures this evening.
  5. Hey All, For the interior I'm going to with Apple Barrel 21484 Admiral Blue. I think this will give me a good base to start with. I'm also ready to spray the body colour. I'm going with Metallic Silver. To me the actual Ford colour looks to be more grey than bright silver. I found a substitute for 1G, Ford's Code, that looks right, but I'm not sure whether to go with a black primer, or a grey one? Any suggestions, or advice would be welcomed.
  6. Made some more progress yesterday. The engine is painted and installed. I just need to pop in the rad hose, air cleaner, and do some spark plug wiring. Unfortunately a lot of the other "plumbing" is missing from the engine compartment. I'm not sure I want to tackle that on this build. I don't want to get bogged down now that I'm making pretty good progress. I used AK Streaking grime to get the dirt on the engine block, along with some pigments for the dust. I used a bit of rust enamel on the headers, but I think that they're a bit too silvery still. I might hit them with some brown to tone them down.
  7. Excellent work! I've got my eye on that kit. Next trip to my LHS I'll pick one up, if they have any in stock.
  8. I'm going to go with Metallic Silver, and a blue interior. Apparently that was one of the dealer options back then. I just need to figure out how I'm going to paint the vinyl. That interior blue looks a bit challenging...
  9. That looks sharp. This is the type of finish I really like.
  10. Currently working on the Revell '76 Gran Torino. As a kid growing up in the 70's I have a real soft spot for cars from this time, especially typical daily rides that I would have seen in my neighbourhood back then. First car kit I've built in more than 40+ years, and it's going together nicely. I don't know if this is considered a "good" kit, but I'm really enjoying so far. I've got the engine and chassis built and just finishing up painting before installing them.I ended up mixing up some blue for the engine, as I couldn't really find anything at my hobbyshop. I know Testors makes (made?) a Ford engine blue, but they didn't have any stock. I tried to match it with pictures I got on line. I think I got pretty close. I left it a bit brighter, because I want to do some oil washes and weathering.
  11. Hey All, Long time lurker on the site, and new member from Toronto. An amazing amount of inspirational work here! I mostly build military stuff, airplanes and AFV's, but I've been wanting to build a car kit for ages. The last time I built one was probably at least 45 years ago. Mostly interested stock vehicles, and anything from about the 1930's to the 1970's. Anyway, looking forward to being part of this group and learning some stuff. Evan
  12. Looks sharp.
