  1. Thanx everyone. I got some more work done on this guy. It should be done tomorrow. I just have to install the grill, lights, windshield, exhaust tips, hubcaps, steering wheel and steering mechanism. Here are some pics showing the colors, stance and some details including the bellypan which is finished in aluminum Metallizer and has some Dzus fasteners and panel lines now. Thanx for lookin’. 2. Gorgeous red Ferrari 275 GTB4 built by Curt Raitz (More pictures below) I just wanted to share this beautiful build with everyone. At the NNL West at the beginning of March, as I was wandering from table to table, I kept coming back to this model. There was something about the color, the lovely lines, and the meticulous build that attracted me. It was built by Curt Raitz. I mentioned to Raul Perez, at whose home I was staying over the weekend, how much I liked it. Raul warned me that Curt was notorious for sending people a model if they mentioned to him that they liked it. I told Raul I thought I was safe because I hadn’t had a chance to say anything to Curt. Turns out I was wrong… This came in the mail yesterday! Huge thanx to Curt for his generosity (and I guess to Raul for snitching on me), and pride of place on my model shelf. Enjoy!
  3. Fabulous as always! I LOVE these. You do such a great job. You should market kits for one of the model companies. They would sell a boatlload of whatever you put in your crosshairs!
  4. As fine as this model looks in these overall views, the exquisite detail and meticulous attention to texture and finish that you've put into this build can only be appreciated by seeing the w.i.p. you posted. I recommend this to anyone viewing this thread. Here's the link: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.p...c=18241&hl= Bravo!
  5. Meticulous, exquisite realist modeling. Bravo!
  6. Well, I'm learning from the master ... The covers won't be "removable" but the pan might be, if I remember to put Dzuz fasteners around the perimeter. Of course in this build it's all pretend because it's starting from a oretend chassis. But this is just a prototype for future builds where the body parts would be removable to show off a detailed chassis. Right now that's just a goal to work towards, but...
  7. Thanx for all the kind comments, guys. You're right, Raul. I got more done today, cleaning, puttying and sanding. So while the primer dries I thought I’d post some detail shots. First off, as I mentioned, this is a sort of “curbside†build, since most of the detail will be hidden inside the body. The original kit doesn’t come with a separate chassis, and this version isn’t too much different. The “chassis†consists of two .156 x .060 inch Evergreen strips running front to rear with the part forward of the firewall cut to match the length of the hood side panels. The interior bucket and belly pan will provide all the rigidity the model requires, so I dispensed with any crossmembers. Then I added two more strips to create a step up in order to “z†the frame. Finally I glued a .080 inch quarter round strip along the bottom edge to create the rolled edge of the belly pan. (click on picture for larger image) Next up, because I wanted to use the hood side panels, which I plan to glue in place, I added some more styrene strip to fill in the gap created by the upward curve of the hood side’s bottom edge. (click on picture for larger image) Finally, to fill in the bottom of the belly pan, I used a piece of .040 inch styrene sheet cut and filed to conform to the curvature of the body and hood. After cutting the appropriate holes to clear the differential and oil pan, as shown last time, I made enclosures from .080 inch quarter round and .040 sheet, puttied and filed to shape. (click on picture for larger image) There won’t be any rear suspension since it’s hidden by the belly pan. The rear axle will be glue right up against the styrene strip. I agree, but I didn't want to lose the cool louvers in a sea of black shadow, so here’s a test shot of the color I’ve chosen for this build, Plasti-Kote GM 7157, a metallic bronze. This is shot over a coat of light gray DupliColor primer sealer and one coat of DupliColor Red Oxide Primer, giving it a reddish gold cast. (click on picture for larger image) Thanx for lookin’ B.
  8. Another sweet example of what can be done with this model. Obviously, this little 5-window body shell has BAGS of character. Given that it's compatible with the 1/25 Revell '32 rails I'm beginning to think that for me at least this is a more significant release than the '32 5-window! Checking on e-bay there are no examplers of this old kit so this re-issue really matters. I can't wait!!!!
  9. Lookin' really raw as you blast your way through the plastic. But oh so promising! Can't wait to see you start to finesse those shapes and show them who's boss... The fenders already look really fine, as does the accent ridge along the roof. When you're done it should be a beauty.
  10. This thing's really comin' alive. Everything's just right. Thanx especially for the tip on the '40 Ford front axle. I have the '37 sedan that I plan to combine with the SD frame and the drop on the front w/ the '40 axle will be just right!
  11. Looks like you found the source car for this model. Someone on the TRaK board had suggested a Von Franco '32 from a few years back: But your pics are even closer: Looks like the same car in different stages of evolution.... In any case we will continue to be cursed with the 5.0 Ford in this kit as per the product description. And I seriously doubt that they will include those delicious seats in the Kennedy Bros. car: '32 Ford 5 Window Coupe Plastic Model Kit Product ID: 85-4228 Overview Skill Level 3 Scale: 1:25 Parts: 187 Description ...High boy style custom or full fender street rod custom with steel wheels or five spoke mags. Optional 5.0 liter Mustang engine or custom dual carburetor V8. Decals with optional custom graphics. Molded in white, transparent red and clear with chrome plated parts and black vinyl tires. Of course the marketplace has provided for our frustrations by creating the aftermarket suppliers, as long as we have the sheckles to pony up for all those itty bitty custom parts (except for hairpins which, strangely, now one has ever offered...).
  12. Bad news. Quoting from the initial product announcement from Revell: '32 Ford 5 Window Coupe Plastic Model Kit Product ID: 85-4228 Overview Skill Level 3 Scale: 1:25 Parts: 187 Description ...High boy style custom or full fender street rod custom with steel wheels or five spoke mags. Optional 5.0 liter Mustang engine or custom dual carburetor V8. Decals with optional custom graphics. Molded in white, transparent red and clear with chrome plated parts and black vinyl tires. Of course they've already shown the car with whitewalls so we can always hope...
  13. Awards for: People's Choice Junior People's Choice Senior Theme Junior Theme Senior Best Classic. - The Charlie James Memorial Award Best/Most outrageous Custom - The Bob Paeth Memorial Award SABA Pic - way too cool to not give an award to Award A make and take for the youngsters. And the clinics sound way too cool... Sounds like an awesome time will be had by all. Not 2 B Missed. Be there or ... C U there, Fletch! B.
  14. Looks like game over for now - the FIA blinked and backed off. It's very likely the new rule, if it ever goes into effect, will only apply in 2010 at the earliest. The FIA released the following press release last night. Obviously the FOTA teams will "not now agree with the new system" and so the whole fiasco is put off until 2010. What a bunch of bureaucratic clowns! I still can't figure out why they tried to make the change in the first place... Press Release FIA Formula One World Championship 20/03/2009 On 17 March, the FIA World Motor Sport Council unanimously rejected FOTA’s proposed amendment to the points system for the Formula One Drivers’ Championship. The ‘winner takes all’ proposal made by the commercial rights holder (who had been told that the teams were in favour) was then approved. If, for any reason, the Formula One teams do not now agree with the new system, its implementation will be deferred until 2010.
  15. I didn't mention it because I don't trust it (just like the rear suspension). Just becaiuse they stuck a decal on doesn't mean there's a blanking plate! Far cheaper to include a line in the instruction recommending sanding the grill smooth... But you're right, some significant parts box contributions seem to be promised with this release.
  16. I'd bet it's the same old same old. The Motor City Muscle series has never been particularly ambitious.
  17. Thanx for the historical perspective. The original 6-way (!) looks especially Model Car Golden Age cool. It also answers Ismael's question about a roadster version! Looks like it would be pretty easy to adapt, especially with his mega-chops. Wonder if it's subject to feeding frenzies on evil-bay? And the Touring Car is cool too, yessireee... I find myself rapidly becoming insensitive to the 1/24 vs. 1/25 issue...
  18. Just had a look at the ’09 Revell catalog as posted online at http://downloads.hobbico.com/catalogs/2009...ell-catalog.pdf . Very interesting from the point of view of someone who mainly builds traditional style rods. First of all, here are pics of new releases not yet discussed to any degree on this board. There are three: I can’t speak to the ’64 1/2 Mustang convertible, but at 1/24th I would suspect it to be a Monogram reissue. The same for the ‘36 Ford, the big news there being that it’s a coupe/convertible 2-in-1 and includes the old school custom front end option, skirts, etc. as shown in earlier pics. Lastly, the ’32 5-window is finally shown in model form and is a mixed blessing with the Hemi, hairpin radius rods, steelies and wide whites on the plus side; but the tires are too wide and the same old funky firewall and single grill brace are still with us. Missing from catalog: Both ‘40 Ford Coupes – Good Guys Street Rod Still in Online Catalog ‘31 Ford Sedan ‘32 Ford Roadster – Still in Online Catalog ‘32 Ford 3-window – Still in Online Catalog So a heads up on the gradual disappearance of the highly detailed 1/25 ’31 sedan kit. We still have the pickup to fall back on, so all is not lost. Misnamed in catalog: 85-2085 ’29 Ford Pickup Street Rod – 1:24 (Part number refers to 1:25 Rat Rod Kit) As you can imagine, this was a near miss… B.
  19. OK, here's an update, direct from Revell's 2009 catalog. Obviously a pic of an actual model. First, for us trad oriented rodder types here's the good news: Hemi engine with nice headers and 2 four barrels. Steelies with chrome rings Hairpin radius rods! Moon tank Nerf Bars Wide whites (but see bad news below) Same old funky firewall and single grill brace rod Tires appear to be the same old wide width types offered on all the kits so far No real clue regarding rear suspension - if you look carefully their might just be a hint of Ford style radius rods, but... Still, as the expression goes, better than a poke in the eye...
  20. Thanx everyone. This one snuck up on me. From what you all report this may be something to get excited about, especially since it appears to be highly compatible with 1/25 chassis and parts. George: I couldn't find the car you're referring to. If you know where it is could you add a link for it to this thread? Lyle: Good looking car for its day. I would expect that you'd have made some progress over the years! Charles: Nice start. It shows how much character that A 5-window has. It will definitely be on my to-do list!
  21. Well actually, like Frank Williams a few years later, Bernie sold used racing cars and racing car parts as a young man. He also owned and ran the Brabham F1 team for 15 years ('72-'87) with Gordon Murray as his chief designer for much of the period. Although the team under his direction never won the Constructor's Championship (although they fnished 2nd twice and 3rd three times) he delivered 2 Driver's Championships for Nelson Piquet ('81 & '83). And Max Mosley was the "M" in MARCH. I think it's fair to say that these guys are pretty genuine motorheads. Unfortunately this doesn't preclude them eventually losing their way...
  22. This was just added to the new releases section at Revell-Monogram. I'm always looking for Hot Rod material. More than anything the body shell, and possibly the chassis would be of interest to me. How good/bad/indifferent might this kit be? The 1/24 scale hints that it is a possible Monogram reissue. Here's the picture and description: 1:24 '30 Ford Coupe Plastic Model Kit Product ID: 85-7551 Overview Skill Level 2 Length: Lenth 6-1/4" Description The ever popular Model A Ford lives again. Produced from 1928 to1931, the Model A was the much-awaited entirely new car that replaced the famous "Tin Lizzie" Model T. This model is a faithful reproduction of the 1930 coupe. The interior is fully detailed, hood lifts off to show the four cylinder L-head engine. Rumble seat door opens and closes. Kit kit includes familiar spare wheel mounted on rear, typical Ford grille, and clear plastic windows. Five-window Model A. Lenth 6-1/4". For ages 10+, skill level 2.
  23. Well here ya go. After an endless stream of drivers and team managers, even Michael Schumacher, complaining, the Formula One Teams Assocations (FOTA) has spoken, finally! Now we'll see where this goes. Is this the straw that's broken the camel's back? Date: 20 March, 2009 Statement on 2009 drivers’ championship award 20 March 2009 Following the decision of the World Motorsport Council of the 17 March 2009 to change the way the drivers’ championship is awarded, the Teams gathered and unanimously agreed to question the validity of this decision. FOTA had made a proposal that was carefully based on the results of a Global Audience Survey, which allowed listening to preferences of the public, and all the Teams firmly believe that these indications should be properly taken into account. The amendment to the sporting regulations proposed by the World Motorsport Council was not performed in accordance with the procedure provided for by Appendix 5 of the Sporting Regulations and, as per the provisions of the article 199 of the FIA International Sporting Code, it is too late for FIA to impose a change for the 2009 season that has not obtained the unanimous agreement of all the competitors properly entered into the 2009 Formula 1 Championship. Since the change to the scoring system unanimously agreed by the Teams and proposed to FIA did not receive approval of the WMSC, no change can occur in 2009, and the Teams wish to reaffirm their willingness to collaborate with the FIA in order to jointly define a new point system for the 2010 season within a comprehensive set of measures aimed at further stimulating the attractiveness of the F1 Sport.
  24. Really sanitary semi-OTB build. Love the color and the attention to detail. This will really pop when it's done. The care you're putting into this one is how these rare old kits should be handled, IMHO.
