When drilling/cleaning/reeming holes in TDR products, use a hand drill. We don't recommend the use of power tools when working our products.

The main chassis section, minus the front and rear clips is now complete. The joints have been smeared, sanded and primered and all thats left is some wet sanding prior to paint. Next up will be attaching the front and rear clips and then fabricating a roll cage to tie everything together.

Oh yeah Dave!! I can't imagine a Willys without a Hemi under the hood. As soon as I get the chassis on wheels I'll be mocking up a Hemi blower motor. This will be my first attempt at super detailing so I may call on you for some advice. Right now I'm mocking up the rear clip so I can build a fuel cel. After that I'll add the front clip so I can build a roll cage to tie everything together.

I've had one of the first TDR Pro Street Chassis sitting on my bench for far too long so I'm going to build it here and put it under one of my MF fibreglass Willy's bodies. As you can see from the CAD images posted above, this chassis comes in four sections. The chassis includes an optional rear clip for either the TDR 9" or 11" rear end and three front clips of varying widths, depending on what body the chassis is going under. Each section has stubs on which to slide styrene tube connectors. The connectors are cut to the length of the stubs (X2 because each section has stubs) and slid onto the stubs of each chassis section with a dab of C.A. The adjoining chassis section is then slid into the open connectors and glued. The next step is to add a bit of filler to the joins, sand smooth and prep for paint. One of the advantages of building this chassis with "connectors" is that the wheelbase can be adjusted to fit the body that the chassis is going under.

I'd like to thank those of you who attended the NNL East (and other shows), for shareing your photos with us. The photo quality is excellent and your contribution to those of us who can't attend these events is greatly appreciated.

Dave is another TDR friend and we feel very fortunate that he is using some of our products. I'm sure Dave will be posting more of his work here and you will be amazed at his scratchbuilding skills. Just wait until you see his twin turbo engine!! -
Syd has been a good friend of the TDR family. He has been responsible for testing and building several of our kits. As you can see from his pictures, he is big on detail. As an example, check out the bushings on the front suspension A arms and the detailing on the Jag engine. Look closley at the photos and you'll see lots more of the great work that Syd does.

Some of you have enquired privatly about why TDR hasn't made any product announcements recently. One writer even asked if we'd left town. Truth is guys that we're heavily involved in R&D. Many of our current products are selling very well so we felt that the time has come to work on creating some new products. In coming months we'll be introducing some new stuff that we think you'll like. The majority of what we do is in 8th scale but due to the success of the 1/24-5 Jag and Mustang bodies we may introduce one or two new small scale bodies later this year. We've also engaged a member of this site who will be evaluating some of our products on site. In addition, he'll be doing some body prep and build tutorials that should be very helpfull to those that are interested in purchasing our products. Finally, to those enquiring minds who are wondering about a particular large scale body.................there will be an announcement, but sorry guys, ya gotta sit tight for a while yet.

Nice work Al. I wonder how many of us would have noticed the inaccuracy if you'd flush fit the doors............

Large Scale Participation at Model Car Shows
arick replied to arick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Lemme step in here again with a reminder......... Towards the end of this year, there's going to be an on line model car show thats being put on with the help of the owners this site, Scalemotorcars.com and Automodelling.com. Gregg has secured a domain name and will be creating a web site just for this event. Here's how the event will work: ** Show only, no competition, no prizes, no fee's. ** Anyone and any scale model car, truck or bike can enter. ** Max three FINISHED entries per person. ** No travelling or shipping models, its "on line". This has been in the works for several months. Its being done because of some of the concerns raised in this thread. When participating in this event, you won't have to worry about travelling and accomodation, table space, judgeing and being ignored because you build in large scale. We think this could be one of the biggest shows ever. For more on this event, go down to the show page and read the "First Annual On Line Show" thread posted on January 1st. -
SMC is "Scalemotorcars" and its another model car/boat/plane site.

Nobody needs to panic, its all good. There'll be an announcement soon.

Large Scale Participation at Model Car Shows
arick replied to arick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As the author of this thread, I'm happy that so many opinions have been raised and in their own way, they all have merit. The bottom line is that we're doing what we do because it gives us pleasure. I think we've spent enough time comparing apples and fish so lets get back to building. Thanks guys! -
If anyone here has pre-ordered the SMC 8th scale Baracuda, please contact me at "tdr.innovations@gmail.com" for an important message.

Large Scale Participation at Model Car Shows

Thanks to each of you for the feedback, and each of you brings up several good points. I wasn't trying to bring TDR into the fold but seeing as one of you mentioned it, I'll make this statement...........if things keep going as well as they have been in the last year, next year we should be able to afford to attend some shows. Perhaps we'll even be able to sponsor some awards that will encourage the promotors to give large scale some much deserved table space. -
I always watch the posts in the "Contests and Shows" threads. I'm totally impressed by whats being built in small scale but there is seldom any large scale builds photographed. I'm curious, is it because the large scale builders are not participating in the numbers that the small scale guys are or is it the simple fact that large scale still isn't as popular? I'd be interested to hear comments from other large scale bilders.

Nothing yet here or at SMC Harry. I think Don has a personal msg out to him also.

Guys, Mario lives near this mornings earthquake in Chile. Lets keep him in our thoughts and hopefully we'll hear from him soon.
-
Guys, our products are a composit of plaster and epoxy resin. As you can see from Don's photo, breaks are clean makeing them easy to repair.
-
Hey Mario, welcome to the MCM forum! Guys, if you want to see what can be done without glue, then wait till you see how Mario builds using fasteners and detail accessories. What he's posted above, well, I won't say "it ain't nothing", but I will say this........"you ain't seen nothing yet". Give us more Mario!

Hi Marshall If you are going to do a Grafitti coupe, and I think you should, have a look at the three window body produced by Edeuce (www.edeuce.com). I've purchased several of their bodies and have never been disappointed.

This is an opportunity for me to add some excitement to the MCM forum. The TDR partners don't have a lot of time to build and photograph what we produce. So, what we do is seek the help of our customers. Here's how it works..... We've asked Harry to help us find a member (or several members) here who build in large scale. Every once in a while, TDR will send one of those modellers a complementary kit, usually a new issue, and ask them to build it here on the MCM forum. The builder has free reign to build it any way he likes and all we ask is that he gives the kit an honest evaluation, builds it on site in a timely fashion and that he writes a tutorial and takes photos suitable for publication. In return, the builder gets to keep what we sent him. There may also be times when we sell products at a reduced rate in return for promo photos etc. This promo has worked very well in the past, and the Jaguar engine that Don posted is an example. "Syd" is one of our customers. We sent him the Jag engine, he built, photographed and tutorialed it on the SMC site and we use his material for promotional purposes. We've used Syd several times and its been a win win for both sides.

OK, I'll bite!! Ain't nothing better than a Jaguar engine painted in GM colours. I'm likeing it so far Grumps. Seeing as you're going to drop the Jag engine into that hot rod milk truck you're building, why not go even wilder and put a couple of hair dryers on the engine.
