  1. Bandai's Master Grade RB-79 Ball. The original design by Kunio Okawara was partially inspired by the EVA pods from 2001: A Space Odyssey, this kit is of the Hajime Katoki redesign which he wanted to look like a one-man space pod that NASA would build. The Ball was originally a SP-W03 mobile pod used in the construction of the space colonies, after the Zeon's Zaku I and Zaku II mobile suits laid waste to much of the Earth Federations fleet a stop-gap measure was needed to counter the Zeon attacks. While the RX-78 Gundam was expensive to build and the mass production RGM-79 GM (Jim) wasn't be fielded fast enough, about 1,200 SP-W03 mobile pods soon found themselves installed with heavy armor plate and a 180mm recoilless cannon. Origianlly seen as ill-suited for combat and earned the nickname "mobile coffin" among the EFSF pilots, it was however smaller, more maneuverable and stealthy than a standard mobile suit and its real advantage came from is low cost and large numbers. Used like destroyers and subs of WWII, the hit and run tactics imployed by the Ball and GM on the Zeon supply lines proved to be a constant headache and required front line troops to be used as security. The one I'll be building will carry a paint scheme similar to the late war F6F-5 Hellcats of VF-27 from the USS Princeton, main color will Model Master Blue Angel Blue enamel with dark gray manipulators. Lightly press fitted at this time so I can disassemble for painting, manipulators still mainly in pieces.
  2. Cockpit masked off, painted with a 50/50 titanium and burnt metal mix of metalizer. Majority of the core parts paint with the mix and main thruster assembly with Alclad Jet Exhuast. The finned portion of the thruster housing will be Alclad Pale Gold. Core bracing done in Tamiya TS-14 Black.

  8. I don't see any problem with soething on that small of a scale, they can range from a simple snap kit like the old AMT kits to complex ones from Rosso, Starter and Marsh.
  9. I use the Testors/Model Master/Aztek Acryl Thinner, no real ratio except as thin as skim milk.
  10. Greg, I don't know how often you're in R/C Country but they've seem to be getting smarter about their model stock. Still not as good as Riverside was but pretty much the only game in town aside from Viking that's out of the way.
  11. Picked these up for $15 each, some 1/43 Marsh Model kits. Jim Hall's Chaparral 2c from the 1965 Nassau race Team Surtees Lola T70, can be done as Graham Hill's #3 or John Surtees' #7 from the 1966 Can-Am season
  12. By your definition of a Hemi that makes pretty much most import twin cam heads Hemi's too.

  18. If you're refering to the undercoating you can use Tamiya Surface Primer or Gunze Sangyo Mr Surfacer and dab it on. Used Tamiya Surface Primer on the wheel wells of my Trueno.
  19. The look has some of the old IMSA GTP feel to it.
