  1. I was at the 1967 Indy, and saw this run. It was nicknamed "Silent Sam". When it went by..it was very quiet...then the rest of the field went by...Sam was so far ahead of the pack,it caused them to pull it from the race. They didn't know if it was pulled, because of the bearing(and excuse),or because to keep from the protest that was comming up later.A big discussion to be sure !LOL! Nice build there.
  2. Lyle, always love your work. That is one nice 60s style custom.
  3. Nice build !
  4. The hood is from a 62 Thunderbird. I found out that THEY ARE DIFFERENT. Have to keep looking for the right hood.
  5. This was a parts car that was given to me.It had everything but the wire wheels, two white walls and hood. Took over a year to find the parts to finish this orginal 4 screw build.
  6. I use 1/4 Plexi-glass,and polish the edges, then use the brass corner pieces(from the hardware dept),and put it all together. You can build a wood base first then have the plastic shop cut the pieces to size, and have them polish the edges for you. I cut mine with a saber saw using a fine blade, then use #400 grit over a block of wood, then go to a finer grit like #2000. Use wet/dry sandpaper, and use it with water.I'm making a cover for this right now. I want to keep it nice. The article behind it was from a national magazine written about the build. .
  7. That is so nice ! I've tried painting flames once,a real disaster ! A nice one to have in a collection.I've been trying to hope to do this one.I've got it all built, and into primer. The scallop painting will be hard.
  8. Here was the insperation Chopped the top, shortened the bed, scratch built the headers, window screen for the grille.40 Ford dash, and Front axle,60 Ford rear end. How do you to get to the shows that are far away?

  11. Long Haul owner/operator.
  12. Jim,the picture I took in 1982 while working for a KW dealership. I had just parked it there, and had to run & get the camera before Tom left. The rig is owned by Tom Hoving from Hudsonville,Mich. Had a "400" Cummins,13sp.It took 11 days to paint just one side of the trailer ! His company was called "Chuck Wagon Express" He had two truck in his fleet at the time.
  13. It has a lighting inside.Using white christmas tree lighting, and a small 9V charger.Let's go inside and see if the guys are working! Built by Scott VanSlooten.
  14. Nice build. I have to agree with the rest of the guys...the wheels need bigger tires to fill out the wheel wells. I like the quality of your work. My Camaro is for the SBS...."Small Block Summer" down by the beach.

    49 Merc

Or you can remove the top,and get the chopped windshield, and "carson top" from the 49 ford Convertable kit,and do this. The "V" angle at the rear of the hood HAS to be the 49 Merc...the 49 ford is different,so you just move your "cut" line rearward to keep the same hood line. You can see it in the first pic if you look close. The rest matched right up nice. and you end up with this.

  17. In 2004 my expiditer dispatcher called me,and told me to go to a certain exit, and wait for instructions. When I arrive at the exit there were State troopers all up,and down the on ramps, and off ramps...WITH THEIR GUNS DRAWN ! This officer jumped into the passengers side with his gun out. He said "Put your hands on the wheel, and don't take them off". I had to back up to an armored truck, and they loaded me up,and two guys jumped into the back, and they closed the doors, and away we went...police escort and all. We had to be into the bank at the next big town's local bank by noon! It was a money transfer from one bank to another, and the armored truck broke down. The officer told me "You think you've seen a lot of cops now,if we don't get there in time...the Feds will show up with helicopters, and the military"! We made it on time. I asked the officer how much money we had. He said "5 million ". I teased him before he left. I said "You think with all that money you could afford to buy dinner"! He was laughing when he left, and thanked me for doing a good job.
  18. This is me in 1982.I got to drive this out of the shop, and set-up the display outside, bring it into the shop at night. This is the one used to go through the billboard, and the overhead shot while the title song was being played.
  19. After I got this completed. it was feture in an article in the "Expediter Online" web site. This is the two engines being loaded. It has an "E track",and the red spring loaded load bars. One still on the floor. Below is the truck at it's first model show in Warren,Michigan along with the article. Here is a link to the article. http://www.expeditersonline.com/trucking/Driver_Lifestyles_3/Dream_Build.html
  20. I built this International 4300. More pics in another part of the forum. The sleeper top removes to show the shower, kitchen, and gun (for bad neighborhoods) LOL!On the back is a "Custom" made decal that says "Rollin' into Texas with the hammer down". from the Steve Earle song "Guitar Town".Has two fuel tanks 250 gal per side. This decal had to be redone since this pic was taken. Been a trucker all my life,as you can see below.
