  1. Nice Ride! I rather see something like this in Hot Rod magazine that those $150,000 showpieces (not that they're bad, daily drivers are just cooler).
  2. This one came in at just under four weeks, a record for me. Most of the time, big truck builds take at least a month and a half (in that amount of time, I can ususally bang out three or four cars or pickups.) Well, down to the nitty gritty. I added a strobe light to the roof, a necessary addition to a construction vehicle. I also lettered it with some homemade signs on regular paper. I also made my own mudflaps, mine didn't fit and are to thick anyway. I made them from the outer covering of an old 3 ring binder. I also made a holder for the pushbroom. I figured it did the most good staying with the truck. I painted the oil drms with random colors, with one being the obligatory Caterpillar yellow (another necessay addition to a construction vehicle, a Cat yellow something). All in all, I think it turned out pretty good. Thanks again for looking everybody!
  3. It's getting there, everybody! I just need to add the fuel tanks, which I've decided to leave chrome, some misc. details and the bed. I even fiddled around with some of those craptastic mudflaps we were talking about in Tim's post. The bed is painted, I just have to fit the stake sides. I'm leaving those loose, so I can keep it practical. I also need to paint the crate and drums. I'm hoping to finish this up during the day tomorrow. I have half a day of school, so I should have plenty of build time tomorrow.
  4. Those wheel and tire sets look like they have potential to use for an offroad or 4X4 build. I'll have to remeber this...
  5. I got the interior done today. These old trucks are pretty spartan, so no frills here. Most of the interior is steel, so it matches the outside of the truck. At least theres a padded dash top... No carpet, just a rubber mat. A/C is unheard of, but at least the heater works.
  6. I had nothing better to do on Sunday, so me, dad, mom and my broher took a ride out to the show. The turnout was okay, and there were some pretty cool trucks there. http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h68/Case...hington%202006/
  7. I just prepped tre plastic as per usual. Wash it to remove the mold release, and I hit it with some 1000 grit to give the plasic some bite. I removed all the mold lines, and took care of one sink mark. Then, I shot the BIN straight out of the rattlecan onto the plastic.
  8. Got some paint on her over the last few nights. This was my first build using BIN primer, and I like the results. No crazing, etching, or anything. Color is Duplicolor Bright Red, topped with Colorplace (WalMart) clear. I foiled all the emblems, and brought back the detail with 1500 grit. This was also my first wetsand job. I did it before clear, but the cheapo stuff isn't too bad so I shouldn't have to sand it. I still need to paint the window trim, but that has to wait 'til at least Wednesday, when the clear is dry. Thanks for all the comments everyone!
  9. That looks awesome. I take it it will get the Trenton FD treatment. Keep us posted.
  10. Tim, for oil I use an acrylic based sudge wash, much like used for washing panel lines, grilles, etc. It's 2 parts acrylic paint, 3 parts water, and 5 parts dish soap. For grease, I use the same thing, just with an extra step. Next time you're at the hobby shop, look in the pinewood derby section for powdered graphite lubricant. It comes in a tube. I use AGS Extra Fine Graphite, its in a red-orange tube. Just squeeze it into the wet sludge, and when dry it looks like caked on grease.
  11. I dropped in the engine early this morning. I also dirtied up the frame. No rust, just dirt.
  12. I bit the bullet and bought some Bleche White. How long should I let it sit in there before all the chrome is gone and I can paint the parts?
  13. The engine's done and ready for the chassis, provided the chassis was ready. I weathered it some, just to depict a well maintained working truck. This will get lettered for my fictional construction company. I don't know about some model truckers, but my trucks may be used, but not abused . Rusty manifolds, dirt, grease and oil. Your eyes do not decive you, the filter says FRAM. The breathers look like they could use new gaskets...
  14. The only trucks I've ever seen with the cheesey light and flap setup has been cab and chassis. But then again, Those are on a dealer lot, so the tractors probably have the flaps installed soon after arrival. Once again, that's lookin real good, Tim.
  15. Here's my newest WIP. I picked this up at the LHS Tuesday night, but didn't get to working on it until last night (that darn high school gets in the way). I just snapped a few quick pics. The kit comes with a gas engine. I think its a 370 or 391, but I'm not 100% positive. I'm going to weather the engine a little, just to depict a working truck. The chassis is done and ready to be painted. I'm not sure what color yet, because I want to coordinate it with the cab. It'll probably end up black, which would look really nice with the color I have planned for the cab (you'll have to wait for that, It's a surprise) Thanks for lookin . Comments welcome. *Disclaimer* I know that the kit box and directions say that this truck is a C600. But, for those that have the kit, if you look real close, the badge on the door has an 800. What do you expect, another AMT goof.
  16. Looks great Tim. The window stickers, missing pipes and tied flaps look great. I can't wait to see the other two new Pete's.
  17. Need some help here everybody, this is uncharted water for me, so i don't want to screw up. How do I de-chrome parts? I've heard of bleach and CSC. I've used CSC for stripping paint, but don't have any expereience witht he stuff on chrome. I'd like to use bleach, because thats what I have on hand. If anyone can throw in some pointers, that would be great. Thanks!
  18. Cool truck! Theres one similar to it that runs around here, but I don't think it's your old one. Be sure to keep us posted.
  19. I want to paint some resin parts with duplicolor chrome. From what I've seen, it's pretty close to Alclad, which is good considering I don't have an airbrush. My question is, how do I clean and prep the resin to be chrome painted?
  20. This may be kind of off topic, but I just had to share this with everyone. Wednesday was my 16th birthday, so today we're having a little picnic for the occasion. My mom surprised me with this when I got home from some early morning errands with dad... She "borrowed" my latest issue of Mustang Monthly, and had the pastry shop adorn my cake with a Screaming Yellow Roush Stage III 'Stang. I was panicked when I couldn't find the mag, and when she came home I got it back. I had no idea why she had taken it to work with her.
  21. It's finally done and ready fo some hot laps. I was just waiting to fill a decal sheet so I could print my own decals. All the black ones are my own. Estok Trucking is my dad and grandfather's company. I used partsbox contingency decals, and went pretty light with them. I didn't wan't a gaudy car, just a fast one. I always wanted to drive a racecar... pics with the sponsor Today we're seeing what's left of tropical storm Ernesto, so some outdoor pics will have to wait.
  22. I can't decide weather to use the bumper bars that come in the kit. I like both looks, so it doesn't really matter if I use them or not. I just want to get some opinions before I go and attach them permanately.
  23. That's great work. I like all the little details like the bug screen.
  24. Good to see you, Ben.
  25. I had alrady had the chassis and interior done, so things are moving along pretty quick. I got the trim foiled, and dropped the body onto the chassis. The masking tape is just until the glue dries. Thanks for lookin!
