i have seen people use stairs intended for the smaller scale of model trains (G or H or something, not sure how they operate) you just cut the apropriate size hole in the hood and lay the stairs in flat it looks very good when done properly

Where ya goin' Hot foot?
diymirage replied to RJWood's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
think i topped out at 200 i was on the german autbahn in my 1990 opel E kadett with the 1.4 engine and that was fast as it would go scared the ###### out of me at about 170 id lock the doors, just to be sure they wouldnt fall off i remember seeing a tiny little stip in my rear view mirror so i check my speedo topped out at 200 glance back in my rear view mirror and the little stip now is a full size 5 series mercedes about 2 inches off my rear bumper needles to say i got my slow 200 KMH but back into the slow lane -

the inline six is somewhere around a 12 liter or so, it was pulled from a semi and i was saving it for a pick up truck it would have to portrude into the drivers cabin like a drag car would it may look a hair large for this build though i have a few more engine options laying around myself someone metioned a rear engine set up, i have a little VW bug engine laying around also have a 2 liter ford focus engine somewhere and i believe i have a inline 6 turbo from a supra or something ill snap some pic tomorrow of the semi engine it is put together and painted but if it goes in here ill paint and detail it like it would be a custom build engine
-
i wouldnt mind building the engine for it though im not sure what to slap in there i just got a great inline six turbo diesel in on a trade that would barely fit in there id like to slap that one in but then then body person needs to fix that hole in the hood
-
sounds great but now im getting scared not sure if my work is up to be part of your guys work i mean, i cant paint, build chassis or motors like you guys but if you guys dont mind me dragging down the overal quality of the build im in
-
i thought this would be really cool to do but how ? i mean, there is only one body and one person who is working on it what do the rest of us do ?

nice to meet you craig first things first on the right hand top of your screen should be your name click on it and it will take you to your profile page about 1/3rd of the way down on the right is a button that says "edit my profile" click on that on your left will now be a little column of options the second option is "change my signature" click on that now you see a white block for you to write in with underneath that a button that says "save changes" just write your signature in there, it doesnt really mather what you write, it can be personal, a bible verse, something funny, as long as you also put your name in there (part of the family, we like to know who you are) once you've decided what to leave click on "save changes" and your all set as for getting an engine your best bet would be going on ebay and looking for a so called "junkyard lot" these are parts and pieces other modelers are getting rid of which should be considered scrap or salvage, so you decided if you want to rebuild it or use it for parts also, keep an eye out for certain kits that have several engines in it like the modified stockers hauler or the revell 68 charger (not all of em though)
-
the focus is made by revell (think its out of thier tuners series) the evo front end was an optional part from the kit though the engine was scavenged from a bigfoo monsterstruck

looks like a renault 5 turbo to me im not sure what to think of it i mean, it is ugly (in my opinion) but as far as skill, vision and innovation it is by far one of the best pieces i have ever seen and that is what matters also, the paint looks awesome
-
hi (insert name here, id pull it from your siggy as per rules but its not there) welcome aboard you'll find that in here there are some great modelers gathered who will not hesitate to help you with any advise you might need (myself included in the latter part of the statement, not the first) at any rate, i like where this is going what kinda mill is in that focus ? also, custom turbo or curbside or kitbash or.... well, to get you inspired to finish this here is a nice challenger ill race your turbo ford focus with the evo 3 front end against my non turbo ford focus with the evo 5 front end (and when i say non turbo i dont mean N/A either :> its just a plain old 572 cubic inch ford big block hemi with a roots blower on it)

looks awesome my favorite is the oil dripping from the pulled engine

2 tone, clogged rattle can and BMF
diymirage replied to slant6's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
i have a slowly growing stash of those nozzles in my tool drawer because every time i empty out a can with a good nozzle i save the nozzle and toss the can that way, when a nozzle does clog up i have a replacement ready -
looking good of course i dont have to tell you i like a good cowl hood as shown on my cuda from this build one thing i would suggest... once the gleu is propperly set but before you put the last coat of putty on, i would could open the hood all the way around the cowl so that it doenst look like an after thought
-
its all good its your model after all
-
looks good there is a "how to" on using photobucket in the tits and tricks forum
-
i added you to the list and ill send you a PM with an invoice for the $12.75 sign up cost for this build off just kidding bro you'll find that we have a great family here and we do kid around with each other looking forward to see some of your work so, if im not prying, what type of surgery is it ? i asume its not too terrible since your online now and it seems youll be back to building prety quick after that
-
looking good but not a true original here is mine (started it last year, hoping to finish it this year) and hitler started the KDF project in 1938 that build factory VW pickups that looked much like yers

how to make scale decals for my models ad dio's
diymirage replied to stepside83's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
well, the decal paper is pretty straight forward once the ink is set you cut out the decal and put it in lukewarm water for 30 or so seconds and apply it like any other decal as for the photopaper, that is kinda up to your own discretion but mostly based on the surface you are glueing it to. maybe use white gleu, double sided tape, gleu sticks made for pictures, whatever floats yer boat just keep in mind that if you do use a liquid glue to use it sparingly, you dont want the paper to become saturated and wrinkle up oh, dont forget to post pictures, there is a diorama section of the forum perfect for this -
how to make scale decals for my models ad dio's
diymirage replied to stepside83's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
there are ways to do this indeed the first thing you need to decide is if you want the sign to be an actual sign (like a billboard) or a decal for on the shop truck i would start by looking for the right picture online and then modifying it (or if you have photosoup skills start from scratch) then you resize the picture (ive been told this works best in microsoft word though im a little unsure on the details) untill it seems to be the right scale once you think you are close you can print a test sign on regular paper tweak it where needed (size colour and such) untill you are satisfied with the print out remember we had to decide on sign or decal ? if you chose sign i would use photopaper (your choice of gloss or matte) and print in on there then you just cut it to size and put it where you want it to be. if you want it to be a decal things are slightly different here is the catch, 99% of affordable printers dont print white to make up for this decal paper comes in 2 different colors, white and clear the white will have white in the decal but it needs to be cut out very acurate otherwise there will be a halo effect the clear will not show any white at all the clear is eayer to apply because it doesnt have to be cut out perfectly (no one will see the edge) but it does have a tendancy to take over the heu of the underlying paint (provided it is a very dark paint) once you have decided on clear or white decal paper there is one more very important thing to look at do you have a laser or an inkjet printer ? they make both kinds of decal paper for both types of printer BUT they can not be used in the wrong printer or the ink will not stay after making all these decisions and printing the decal on the right paper for the right printer dont forget to spray some decal setting liquid over it (this will seal in the ink) then all you beed to do (after it dries) is apply them like a regular decal and yer all set -
looking good my only suggestion is putting the mirrors on i didnt do it at first either but a model looks so much better with them on it al in the detail after all
-
i like it if i were to make one suggestion though (and this is just my opinion) but i think it would look more realistic if you wouldnt have painted the grille other then i that i cant think of anything to improve

unless your name in fact is homer simpson David is a lot closer to being in compliance with the rule by having his name on the left hand side with the rest of his vitals then, well, you as for the RR, its a very nice looking car i like the intake, it looks familiar but i cant place it (almost looks like a 302 crossbarrel)
