  1. Alan, just an FYI we are doing an email contest as well as the big reveal at the Pacific NW Model Car Fest, so if you're interested let me know. Dave
  2. 95% of the classic builds were from Stan Ulrich, and the majority of those were from wood and paper kits from the late '40s early '50s. Unless you knew what they were you would have sworn that they were plastic or metal. Incredible workmanship as always from Stan. As for the Sharpie, that's what happens when you show someone how well the Macro lens works and forget to delete it then upload the entire show when you should be sleeping. You never know what may get uploaded.
  3. Back at the bench, attempting to get something, anything completed!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. For those interested I got half a dozen additional pieces of artwork from Jairus this morning. If you're interested please get in touch with me. We will be cutting off the official Challenge once these drawings have been emailed out. Just like Chicago get in early or it may be to late. Dave
  5. Here are the links to the 3 Fotki Albums from this past weekends 54th Portland Roadster Show, 40th Bob Paeth Portland Classic Model Car Contest and the 2nd Annual Best of the Best here in Portland. 54th Portland Roadster Show: http://public.fotki.com/dcfletcher/automotive/cruises--shows-2010/portland-roadster-show/ 40th Bob Paeth Portland Classic Model Car Contest http://public.fotki.com/dcfletcher/model-cars/model-contest-show/the-bob-paeth-portl/ 2nd Annual Best of the Best at the Portland Classic http://public.fotki.com/dcfletcher/model-cars/model-contest-show/best-of-the-best-at/ Thanks for looking.
  6. The Shadowbox Coupe is on hold for a couple of days as I've found another source for Stromberg 97 carbs that are superior to the ones that are on the manifold in the earlier photos. I figure with as much time and effort that has gone into this build it deserves only the best. We'll be back to building on the Coupe in the next couple a days and have it completed shortly.
  7. You are correct James, back in the late '90s we were in a constant battle with a show that had no other reason to be other then to create conflict with the PRS. It was a ongoing battle to see which show would survive, both shows suffered greatly because of the situation. The other show pulled the plug last year not only killing the Portland Rod & Custom show but also the Seattle Roadster show in the process. Now the Portland Roadster Show is the only game in the NW, and it shows it with the list of celebrities at this years event. We have Chip Foose, Gene Winfield, Jimmy Shine, Candy Clark from American Graffiti and the new Wolfman. The car count is up as well as the quality of the cars. This year we have two AMBR winners and two Riddler winners on the floor along with some of the most outrageous local cars I've seen in a very long time. I'll get photos of both the main floor and model contest up tonight as getting through setup and the first day were kinds nuts. Dave
  8. Sounds like every one is on track, I haven't even touched any of what I need for the build. But, I have an excuse I've been at the Portland Roadster Show. Today had a chance to chat with Gene Winfield about his '35 Ford Shop Truck and got some insight for the upcoming build. Then this evening got to spend some time with Jimmy Shine talking about model building. Best Roadster show in the past decade. Dave
  9. We are at 50 Entries, as I noted earlier neither Jairus or myself ever imagined that we would have this much interest. 50 was to be the cut-off however with the fact that interest has yet to subside we will be looking through additional artwork to allow others into the Challenge. Tonight at the setup for the 40th Annual Bob Paeth Portland Classic Model Car Contest a SABA member brought in a photo of his nearly completed Challenge build. Wow, was all I could say, imagine he's almost completed with his first build (he ask for another) and I'm not even close to getting started on my Challenge build. So, where is everyone at when it comes to the progress of their Challenge build? Let's see what you've got going on. Dave
  10. Not a problem Tom, the ones on that list haven't been given out at all, so we're good there. And yes the Challenge has taken on a life of it's own, it has turned out to be a lot more popular then Jairus or I had ever thought it would be. Honestly, I thought that if there were 20 interested I would consider it a success, now we're right around 50 that are entered or have expressed an interest in the Challenge and it continues to grow. Jairus and I have discussed adding additional Artwork to the Challenge. Depending on the continued interest we just may do that. However, don't assume that being there is a chance of extending the number of entry possibilities that you can wait. You may find yourself on the other side of a deadline with all the possibilities exhausted. We're a little easier to deal with then the IRS, but we have our limits.
  11. Mike, I do not have a list of when the drawings were published, some of them have never been published at all. Jairus himself would be your best source for that information. But, remember that the idea is to build the best replica of what you can see. If you can't see it let your imagination lead the way. For the email part of the Challenge the entry will be judged on how well you were able to replicate the actual artwork, not the things that you can't see. Dave
  12. Charles sent you a PM last evening with my contact information. There are still a couple of envelopes remaining. Let me know if you're still interested. Thanks Dave
  13. Where are you sending the emails to Charles? I have not gotten a single email that has not been responded to. Gmail forwards to my phone and I get notified anytime a new email arrives. Either PM me here with your email address or send me an email to dcfletcher17@gmail.com and we'll get it taken care of. Dave
  14. Now that the Jairus Watson Artwork Challenge is well underway I can get back to finishing the Shadowbox Coupe. The intake manifold was in place and ready for the carbs when the topic was last updated. The headers were complete as well and waiting to be attached to the heads. A fuel distribution was needed for the 6 carbs that will top the manifold. A 3/8" piece of .047 Evergreen round stock was used with 6 holes across the top and 1 in the end. The carbs were center drilled to allow .028 brass wire to be inserted to keep them from getting knocked off the manifold. Each carb was drilled to accept a piece of .015 (26 gauge) plastic coated bead wire to represent the fuel line. The carbd were painted ACLAD II Gold Titanium. The scavenger scoops for the carbs were painted using ALCLAD II Chrome over their Black Base. I like so many have had marginal success with ALCLAD's Chrome until this time. I used their Gloss Black Base (AC305) and must admit that a reasonable "Chrome" finish can be achieved using their products together. It's actually starting to feel like this build is on the way to completion. A alternator/generator bracket needs to be built and the fender braces need to be put in place. The Headlight brackets are bent and in place. Parts by Parks King Bee head lights will be added once the brackets are painted. The dashboard will have the pedals suspended from it they should be in place tomorrow or Thursday. The last piece of assembly will be the link from the cowl steering eccentric to the drivers side drag link. Hosted on Fotki Hopefully the next entry will be in the Under the Glass section. Thank you for following along and your words of encouragement and suggestions. Dave aka 'Fletch'

  20. PM me with your email address and I'll get the information to you.
  21. Good to go Jason, start choppin' plastic.
  22. Tom, are you using a photo hosting site like Fotki or Photobucket? If not thje only way you can post pics is to use the attachment feature when posting. Dave
  23. JT, like I noted in the email use what every you feel necessary to complete the build and that does include getting the 'Skinny' on the drawing from the MCM MASTER as you so nicely put it. Dave
  24. Blake, PM me your email and/or snail mail address and I'll get the Introduction Letter and one of the drawings on the way to you. Dave
  25. Mike, without a doubt HoK Tangelo was made for the '46-'48 Fleetline. This is one of my favorite drawing ever from Jairus. The Fleetline looks so fantastic as an Ol' School Lowrider. Have fun with the build. Dave
