The great one died 19 yrs ago today.

Gotta remember too, that at the time Senna was probably one of the 5 most famous people on the entire planet. Senna's grave attracts more visitors a year than the graves of John F Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley combined. Comparing the death of Senna to the death of Dale Earnhardt I would say is, to me, like comparing the death of Richie Evans to the death of Earnhardt. I grew up in Martinsville, VA, Richie Evans was a legendary Modified Driver who died in a crash at Martinsville Speedway. Everybody in Martinsville knew who Richie Evans was and remembers that event, but I doubt very many people outside of Martinsville or those that follow Modified racing have ever heard of him. Inside of the US, everybody knew who Dale Earnhardt was and remembers that event, but I doubt that many people outside of the US had ever heard of Dale Earnhardt. Outside of the US, everybody knew who Ayrton Senna was and remembers that event. -
"When it was inaugurated in 2004, the Shanghai International Circuit was — and still remains — the biggest, most ambitious Formula One circuit ever made. Built at a cost of $450 million on 5.3 square kilometers, or 2 square miles, of swampland, it required a propping up of the land with concrete blocks that were then covered with polystyrene. According to the sport’s governing body, the International Automobile Federation, the circuit bought out the entire Asian market of polystyrene for the job." Can't make this stuff up! The factories knew and had built up a couple years' worth of a stockpile while the track was under construction, so it took a couple years for the inferior plastic to start showing up.

Recently? This goes back to about 2006 or so (I remember it being a big problem with the 2005/6 Mustang kit when it was first introduced). Testors Metalizer would etch that plastic. The word inside the industry was that it was due to the construction of the Shanghai Formula One track (which used up the entire Asian polystyrene supply available at that time) which created a shortage of good high-quality styrene that took several years to work its way back to normal. It's possible that there's still some of that plastic in the supply chain. Whatever it is, it's not intentional.

If you're the kinda guy that likes buying stuff, you can get them ready-made from MCG. #706 - 5 to a pack for a couple bucks. -
Seriously, Revell's Facebook page is no different than their website, anybody can go to it. It's just a page on the internet. The difference is that anybody with the login and password can update their Facebook page, they can get Agnes, the 75 year old secretary to do it, it's easier than posting on this message board, honestly, while changing their website takes someone trained to do websites and is a MUUUUCH bigger PITA and God forbid you leave an HTML tag open or something, you end up ripping a hole in the space-time continuum. And how would someone know to go check their website, who just goes to a company's website every day or two just to see what's new? If only there were some way they could tell folks about new things, you know - a way for folks who "like" that company to receive news and messages about that company? If only there were a place like that on teh interwebz... I don't know, I'm no genius with the computer or anything, maybe some Zuckerberg will come along one day and invent something like that...

There are no words, so here's a Cosby gif... -
So going to a couple NNL's paying for airline tickets and hotel rooms to talk to a few hundred folks who are already dedicated model buyers = good business. Ok, I agree with that. But posting announcements on Facebook for all the world (and their 13,000+ followers) to see which costs them nothing and, who knows, might even attract some new modelers = bad business? I'm running out of Cosby gifs...

Ok, so how'd I do? (From the What's Revell have up their sleeves thread) At least one Corvette reissue (I'm leaning towards the 58/59) THATS A BINGO! At least two Foose editions (is the Foose 64 Impala "official" yet?) 1/2 credit, but it is a big 'un... One station wagon (either a reissue or possible modified new tooling - I'd like to see something on the 57 Ford - a Ranch Wagon would be my personal favorite, but a Country Squire would please a few folks, too. On the tri-five front, I'd flip for a 57 Chevy Handyman or 55 and 57 Nomads) Does the 53 chevy panel count? One modified variant of a 60's muscle car. THATS A BINGO! One modified variant of a current muscle car. WRONG!!! At least one Tom Daniel kit. THATS A BINGO! At least one show car. (I'm leaning Lil' Coffin or Lil' T/Boomer Bucket/Street T) THATS A BINGO! A possible totally 100% new-tool kit (but new tool announcements are more likely to happen at iHobby) I'll take 1/2 credit for the "Slingster", even though it was totally under my radar! At least one drag racer reissued, possibly with a decal scheme they've never offered before. THATS A BINGO! One older truck reissue (I'm leaning 64 Chevy Fleetside) WRONG!!! Another 70's van, these are hot right now. WRONG!!! At least one tri-five Chevy (is the 57 'vert "official" yet?) WRONG!!! Revell-Germany's new-tool VW Beetle in a Revell US box. (The new-tool Mini Cooper in US box is "official", right?)THATS A BINGO! (To be fair I already knew about that one) I'd like to see a 50 Olds Club Sedan (fastback). WRONG!!! But we are getting a custom version, so 1/2 credit I'd like to see the F-Code 57 Ford Custom NASCAR special (I know it will happen, just not sure when)THATS A BINGO! I'd like to see another issue of the Big Deuce WRONG!!! -edit- a convertible version of something currently available as a hardtop THATS A BINGO! a hardtop version of something currently available as a convertible (I know, some of these are no-brainers!) Does the hardtop in the 62 Vette count? So what's that, about .500? Not too shabby...

1/25 Revell '03 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
Brett Barrow replied to truckaddict's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Chinese New Year caused a major fustercluck over there. Jeep will be out next month - *edit* end of this month, actually. -
They're saving all the really good stuff for iHobby (and there will be some good stuff) And call it blasphemy, but the D&M '62 gasser looks better than the Mazmainian '61 (ever see the hack job on the wheel wells of that thing )

If nobody's answered yet, it's from Return of the Pink Panther, which is kinda like the orphaned Pink Panther movie, it was Sellers and Blake Edwards, but was done by UA instead of MGM since it was like 12 years after Shot in the Dark and the other PP movies without Sellers flopped. After it did well, MGM got back on board and did Pink Panther Strikes Again and the rest is history. It can be a little hard to find on DVD, but it's worth tracking down if your a fan of the 70's Panther movies. Same kinda gags that are in Strikes Again, lots of folks get them mixed up. I'm a huge Sellers/Edwards/Panther fan, in case it doesn't show... -
Foose based the one-off 1:1 wheels on the mags from Mickey Thompson's Challenger 1, so that might be a starting point in scale. Call me crazy, but I betcha he's built a few model kits in his day, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if he still uses them when visualizing his designs... Like I said, Foose the guy I like. Foose the "brand", not so much
-
Another 62 Chevy for the stash (All I really wanted was the Z-11 parts, but this one was cheaper than the guy selling engine sprues!) And a set of 1969 GM exterior and interior paint chips.

So wonderfully perfect in every way. I have GOT to make up one of those silicone tuck-and-roll molds... And practice on all aspects of my modeling. Lots of practice. Then I'll get there! Thanks for showing us how it's done. Inspiring stuff.
-
I think the problem is there is the actual Chip Foose guy, who I like for the most part - especially his more traditional stuff - and then there is the Foose "brand" which I hate... I think if Revell is looking for something to follow up the Stacy David car, then the Foose-designed "Fender Less" 3w would be sweet, despite the "faux-tina'd" paint job I think it's pretty cool...

I have no more details other than what I've said - "a recreation in 25th scale" was how it was relayed to me. I'm hoping that it's more of a true-to-life replica of a period slingshot dragster than a simple nostalgic recreation of the vintage kit. A dragster kit fit for the 21st century would be awesome, and with a little tweaking of the chassis and stuff could yield all kinds of cool period dragsters (like my dream kit of a G-B-P ...) The Sizzler's chassis, IIRC, is more of the Chassis Research style that would predate the Kent Fuller style by a little (not much, though - just a year or two?)

Arii/Otaki had killer BFGs in their old big n little wheel and tire sets, but you really need to find two sets because the bigs are crazy big, like Street Freak big, and they were 24th scale which made it even worse. Two sets of fronts on Monogram 24th scale muscle cars was the hotness back in the day...
-
Seriously? Cop Out? They might as well just make that one a permanent fixture... I didn't even notice that. I'll snag a Lil Coffin just for the wheels and tires, got several things those would look good on. The Sizzler is a slingshot-style Dragster very much like the one in the AMT Double Dragster, but it came with an alternate Competion Coupe body in addition to the streamliner and open dragster bodies like the DD has. It's a sedan body, actually, but it's still a Competition Coupe dragster. Call me crazy, but I'm still holding out hope that one day we get a new-tool Greer-Black-Prudhomme dragster...

I know I'm Mr I-cant-stand-off-topic-stuff, but there are Ayrton Senna models. There are no Richie Havens or George Jones models (though I personally would build a model of The Possum on his John Deere riding mower...). -
Help me get back to basics - tools...
Brett Barrow replied to Brett Barrow's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Uh... I'm not pitching the sprue nippers, they're Tamiya's fine pointed ones and they've never broken a part, ever! Soem of the others I've owned (and I did say I've owned everything...) well, I can't say the same thing about... I have several curbsides, but I've started doing some mild custom work on them, I have nosed and decked 57 Chevy snapper and a similarly customized 61 Ford on the bench right now. Kit will probably be Revell's 66 Impala. I just want to thin the tools out and get a little more organized. -
Well, when they tell us in the morning and say "shhh - it's confidential", then their own subsidiary starts putting them up that afternoon... Nothing real big concerning new tooling, looks like that will wait until iHobby. They are re-creating the Monogram "Sizzler" dragster by reverse-engineering. Same way they re-did the Rommel's Rod. And it'll be 1/25th instead of 24th like the original.
