  1. Yup, the 60's Beetle will be the new-tool RoG. I don't think they're even going to import any in RoG boxes first. The cabriolet will only be in an RoG box, though.
  2. Ok, let me start by saying I own pretty much every modeling tool in existence, but have a hard time finishing models. I'm looking to get back to my roots and put away some of the fancy tools and clean off the workbench and get a model finished sometime in the next month or so. So help me make a list of the bare necessities - what tools do you absolutely have to have on the bench at all times? I'm thinking X-Acto (well, an OLFA knife in my case), sprue nippers, wetordry sandpaper, etc... help me get back to basics and get something finished!
  3. It's OK for everything! It is a lacquer, but it's a very mild lacquer. Stuff's been around at least 40 years, and I've personally never had a bad reaction or heard of one. Worst thing that ever happened to me with it is sometimes you get a can that isn't all that flat.
  4. Argh, those sneaks... Thought the "public" announcements were being done on Friday... Casey needs to unlock the "Revell fall releases" thread and I'll start spilling the beans
  5. Snag an old AMT Styline kit - they had a neat little sanding block in them. I have the one out of the 61 ford, it's not just flat sides it has rounded corners, I think each corner is a different radius. Neat little tool that I couldn't live without.
  6. Everyone needs to watch "Senna", the movie, at least once in their life - regardless of whether they're F1, open wheel, or even racing fans at all. It's on Netflix. Best racing docu I've ever seen. Turn the sound all the way up for maximum effect.
  7. I've been under the impression that HL and some of the other chains only buy overstocks after they get a sweetheart deal. Doubt there will be an overstock on this puppy for a while...
  8. No rearview, but it will have decals for the all-white car. Body will not be de-SSed, and I'm waiting to hear if there might possibly be a no-SS badge grille tooled up, but since they didn't do a rearview, I doubt it. Still doesn't bother me, I can live with it either way.
  9. I'm hoping it's not. Real car wasn't. Pro Street kit is quite a bit different, but I think there are some shared parts. Both had the display SBC, right? Been a long time since I saw one of the originals. I hope Pro Stocks, Super Stocks, and Junior Stocks are going to be hot subjects for a while...
  10. I'd guess that it will at least restore the kit back to it's original 2 n' 1 version - and probably get rid of some of the Pro Street parts in the current issue. Round 2 has only done the Pro Street version since they took over. To be accurate it'll need a little "de-SSing", mainly getting rid of the SS badge in the grille, but I'll live if they don't. It'd be cool if they did, though.
  11. It's supposed to have a newly-tooled bench seat, along with a few other goodies. Not sure if it'll have decals for both of Grump's 66 Novas, the red and white one shown (destroyed in a towing accident) or the white one that replaced it. I'll add more info as I find out more. *edit* it will have both. It was also most appropriate that I got my copy of Grumpy's Toys in the mail today...
  12. Something must have happened. I'm still waiting on our RPP shipment, that usually hits in the 3rd week of each month. Never got an updated release schedule this month (usually get that around the 15th), so I don't even know what's supposed to be on it. Could have missed the boat from China - that stuff happens, sure there's a simple reason for it. *edit* Now I see they've combined April and May's releases. Looks like we'll probably end up getting May's stuff a little early and April's stuff a little late. Betcha they held the shipment so the 5.0 Mustangs could make it on a little ahead of schedule...
  13. I've yet to find any evidence of Turbine Bronze or "Frostfire Metallic" prior to MY67 or late MY66 except for the Turbine cars' Wikipedia page 1964 would have been the height of popularity of candy paint jobs, you see candy paint on probably 90% of drag cars of that era. Any custom painter could have laid down a quick candy paint job on the car. This car would have already been racing for the bulk of the season before the Turbine cars were unveiled to the public. We're all free to do our own research and make up our own minds. Eckstrand's 63 car, a Dodge Dart wagon, appears to wear the same color, and the Turbine car wasn't even greenlit at that time.
  14. I can't find any hard evidence of this "Frostfire Metallic" other than in internet articles about the Turbine Cars. What was the factory code for it?
  15. You want quick and easy? Tamiya's 48th scale military Beetle.
  16. Granted, 8 pages are military rank puns. Which reminds me... You really gotta Admiral the moderators for the great job they do!
  17. "Private Message" - ICWYDT...
  18. Oh yeah, Rants and Raves... Those were the good ol' days. Weren't half of them rants about having to learn to speak/read Hawaiian? That reminds me, it's been a while since we had one of Gregg's Hawaiian lessons.
  19. The actual Turbine cars? Oct 63 to Oct 64. Turbine Bronze the color? paintref.com says model years 67 and 68., TCP Global says it was added as a spring '66 color. It sure would look purdy and I wouldn't fault anyone for using it, but I gotta think the candy red/orange/reddish-orange/orangeish-red over gold makes the most sense in 1964. Any paint shop in the country could do it. But tracking down some paint that's being used on a concept car whose bodies are being built and finished by Ghia in Italy, even with factory connections? Mmmm, not so much....
  20. I got to hold one (an actual production kit, not a test shot) in my grubby little paws, a couple weeks back. Wasn't mine though . It's niiiiiiiiiice, but I don't know the 1:1 well enough to comment on it. "Tamiya-like" is the phrase that comes to mind. You guys will like it, I'm sure, unless the wheel arches or window trim or something is a little off, then it will be the WORST. KIT. EVAH!1!!11!! I might even be persuaded to buy one and do one of the US Air Force's U-2 chase cars.
  21. "Off-topic" "The Lounge" "Anything Goes (except politics and religion)*" leave it at the top of the page or put it at the bottom, no matter either way. I'm sure there are probably just as many posters, if not more, who don't like all the modeling-related topics clogging up their sick-cat-stubbed-toe threads... Sorry if I kinda went off on this one, but it kinda touched a nerve with me and the last couple of threads that dealt with similar issues got locked before I had a chance to comment on it. *I've said it before and I'll say it again, I give you guys mad props for keeping politics and religion off this board. It's honestly the #1 reason I come here, because I know there won't be any of that here.
  22. Here's the page from Davis' Super Stock that has a pic of the hardtop Lawman and the 2% Hemi car after it was sold to Joe Aed on the same page and the red in the 2% Hemi car is obvious, and the caption of the hardtop even says "candy red". Turbine Bronze wasn't a factory color until, what, 67 or 68, amirite? But any paint shop in America in 1964 could have laid down a candy red (or orange or orangey-red) over gold. Still, Turbine Bronze would look cool on a model, I wouldn't fault anyone for going that route.
  23. But there's modeling stuff in there!!! I'd say it's 50/50. Right now on the first couple pages there are threads on AccMin's ill-fated Cobras, Tamiya Pink Primer, what reissues we'd like to see from Round 2, favorite wheels and tires, photo setups, modeling tools, paint racks, favorite paint brands, etc... those are modeling related topics. As it stands I skim the General and look at headers, if the headers aren't specific, I don't read them. I'd avoid it altogether if it were all totally off-topic, but it's not. Sorry, but a post about Ritchie Havens and a post about model paints shouldn't be grouped together on a modeling board. That's my opinion. One is totally off-topic, and the other is on-topic. I don't care if you make a totally off-topic board and it's still the most popular board on the forum. I would love to have a board that I know to avoid. Leave it at the top of the page for all I care. Heck, give it a shot, what can it hurt? Do you have to kill a kitten or something to open up a new board on here? I know I'm not the only one who thinks this, maybe I'm just the only one willing to say it? Being on the inside looking out is a different view than the outside looking in... Or maybe we're just the idiots who can't figure out how to post on a modeling board. Like I said, I'm no rocket surgeon...
  24. Set it up however you want it, I'm just busting chops a little. My 2 cents is that there should be a totally "off-the-reservation" off-topic board (that I personally would avoid like the plaque) where people can post about their private lives and favorite songs and movies, what Hollywood actor just croaked, etc... and there should be a board that is all modeling related all the time. You go to General and see a header like "Bad news" and I think "Woah, what did some model company file Chapter 11, some kit get cancelled, somebody's LHS is closing, etc..." you know modeling related stuff, and then you open it and it's about how somebody's relative died or somebody's girlfriend broke up with them, or their car needs fixing, or they need to have some operation, etc... you know some real-life stuff. I build models and come to places like this to get away from real-life stuff. Put that into its own board, that's all I'm saying, leave it at the top of the page, let it be the most popular part of the forum, I don't care, I just don't see the point of having all of these little hyper-focused sub-boards and then this one big anything-goes fustercluck of a board for everything else. You're on the inside looking out, we're on the outside looking in. Perspectives are different. I know from my job that I get stuck seeing things from the inside looking out and constantly have to rethink my perspective and think about how it seems from the other side. Anyway my advice, take it or leave it for what it's worth (which is absolutely nothing).
  25. I know that something has to be top of the page, I would expect that to be the Rules and Guidelines, like usual, but I've just never seen another modeling board that has its off-topic, random BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH, stream-of-consciousness board at the very top of the page. Maybe make "General" into only posts about cars and trucks either 1:1 or in scale and general modeling topics and make a totally completely off-topic "My hamster died, my cat is sick, I stubbed my toe..." board somewhere down the page? General is just a hot mess as it is. General might as well be Spotlight... But there are plenty of folks that like that random, wandering, stream-of-consciousness style I'm sure.
