  1. But here, let's grow this thread . . . ACCORDING TO YOU, which vehicle (model and year) you think was the last great car design put on the road. I like the new Challenger! But before that I am going to say the 70 GTO!
  2. I don't know about you guys, but I've always liked cars with that GOTCHA-TO-LOOK factor. If I want to get there fast and cheap, I simply teleport! Seriously, though, it's become a financial and economic burden to buy cars. I grew up believing in USED cars. Why would anyone in their right mind spend 48K on a vehicle when they can buy a house for that kind of dough. If you line up the LEXUS, MERCEDES, SATURN, et al, I would have a very hard time trying to figure out what the differences are in design. Personally I think they are all designed not even by committee anymore but by a computer, which brings me back to the beginning. I would much rather teleport.
  3. Which is why I've found it funny--I'm sure you guys have seen those commercials--where they put a '59 Caddy next to a brand new Caddy, and I'm thinking . . . wow, what a bad idea for selling the new Caddy. Between the two, I will always opt for the '59. Even blindfolded, I would still go for the '59. Yes, I agree, all the new cars are the same, which is why I ride a motorcycle!
  4. Actually to answer your topic title, I think American car design has been done since the late 60s. Garage-based American car ingenuity has been going strong since the rat rods entered the scene in the late 90s. Everything else is getting yourself to and from work in a lunch box on four, three, or two wheels.
  5. That paint and the interior details are looking good. Keep it going, it's going to be a sweet ride!
  6. Rommell, buddy, that's happening more and more, which is why MCM is a more open source of inspiration . . . and it stays on top of different styles and movements within the hobby. The only thing keeping other magazines afloat is that they are bank-rolled by a huge conglomerate, so they can be exclusive in their boredom.
  7. This is getting real good. Wow, please keep it going.
  8. I wonder if anyone has ever tried this with slot cars. I bet Jairus would know. It's a crazy idea, but fun to think about.
  9. Wayne, thanks for sharing this wonderful picture. I wonder if the same effect could be achieved with a bright light that's modulated somehow. Since I am math and electricity impaired, I could not begin to figure something like that out.
  10. Keep it going, Chuck. It's looking good.
  11. I agree with Chuck, if I leave a comment, I voted, if not . . . I moved on.
  12. Bob is right, this would not fly at a model car show . . . in part because all models have to be protected and respected.
  13. LOL, the point is that someone was thinking how cool it would be to have a jet-engine like vehicle. Now, imagine the possibilities with an R/C car, and some "E" rocket hobby boosters out on a field. Wouldn't that be enough thrust to get the vehicle moving? And then how cool would that not be? Potential, potential, potential.
  14. Great progress, nice color, it's looking good. Take your CRANKY VITAMINS and keep it going, you styrene addict YOU!
  15. What? No humidity in Hawaii? I thought the humidity was what kept Magnum PIs mustache from curling up?
  16. Thanks, Skip. Yes, I heard about it on NPR and I thought it sounded interesting. I want to check it out. I've always loved AREA 51, although the closest I've gotten is White Sands . . . I guess not too many people can get that close. LOL
  17. I cannot help but think this would be a great way to light my cigars! Enjoy!
  18. Wow, I can't believe this went on for four pages and we all still have our sanity. Sanity?
  19. By the way, this is how the next Rapture is going to begin . . . in AREA 51: Something's been kept secret from us for too long, and then it's broken out . . .
  20. By the way, there's a great new book out on AREA 51 I am dying to read this summer, and it deals with all the weirdo stuff that's gone on in AREA 51! http://www.amazon.com/Area-51-Uncensored-Americas-Military/dp/0316132942/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1306016804&sr=1-1
  21. Personally, Doctor Cranky believes that there will be more styrene fun in the after life, where you will have access to all models, all tools, all the things you've ever wanted from the after market, etc . . . etc . . . etc . . .
  22. Wow, Ben, you are either not married or you have a very understanding spouse. If I sprayed paint in a bedroom, I'd be sleeping with the dogs for a few weeks. As long as the humidity is low or none at all, you will be able to get great results in temperatures 68 and above. Here in Florida, where the humidity is a wet mop, I wait for a couple of idea weeks where there's no humidity and then I spray a whole bunch of bodies for when it gets too unbearable and humid.
  23. Yes, let it all out, everyone. Let it all out!
  24. LOL, that might not be as bad as spending the eternity listening to this:
  25. Having said that, I think this is EXACTLY how many of us got our starts with the END-OF-THE-WORLD builds! Which would be another great theme build. If you think the end of the world comes in a flood, then I'd like to see some car model conversions into floating vehicles. If it's going to end with a Nuclear blast, I'd like to see some model bunker rooms! And so on . . . it could be fun . . . and Hollywood Jim got a great start a few years ago . . .
