That is looking good! Love the wiring and right down to the battery terminals. Can't wait to see this when it is done!

I was spraying the clear coat the other day and dropped it while still wet so I had to strip it down. What a pain in the caboose! gave it a coat of primer. Needs some sanding, but I expect I'll have the body done by the end of the weekend.

Thanks! Sounds like you're giving your fastback a bigger set of kiwis... I haven't started mine yet, but I plan to start it sooner than later. I already went out and bought the spray cans to paint it up Mica Red and do the interior "Sand"... hoping it will look similar to an Emberglo/Parchment interior.

I was at my LHS and got looking at the Tamiya spray rack and I noticed 'Brilliant Orange' TS-56 and it was way closer to Trapper Orange than the Camel Yellow could ever be. So I gave the body a quick wet-sand and srayed it on. Looks way closer to the Grabber Orange that I was looking for. Compared to each other: Camel Yellow previously: Grabber Orange now: Ok, I think my camera is slightly colorblind... to see it in real life, it is a significant difference.

Thanks! I did a bit of wet sanding between coats.

That's some kit! They took all the dirty-work out of it. Is that an *aluminum* plated tree? Feeling spoiled?

I'm going with the BOSS 302 version of this kit, though the Mach 1 version is tempting too... I may just go back any buy the same kit and do that version too. Going with the Yellow. Painted the body using Tamiya TS-34 "Camel Yellow" and have to say I'm pleased with it. Just need to wet sand, spray a thin coat of clear, add decals and then keep spraying coats of clear until I can see my smiling face in the paint... or so that's how it is going to work in my head. Can't wait to get this one started since this is one my favorite cars.

Finished! I think Geoff won 3 races and several top fives while behind the wheel of this car. I remember him following not that far behind the Dale and Dale show in the '93 Daytona 500. <img src="http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss172/beefheart22/Geoff%20Bodine%2092%20Motorcraft%20Thunderbird/Picture061.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /> <img src="http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss172/beefheart22/Geoff%20Bodine%2092%20Motorcraft%20Thunderbird/Picture056.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /> <img src="http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss172/beefheart22/Geoff%20Bodine%2092%20Motorcraft%20Thunderbird/Picture058.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /> <img src="http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss172/beefheart22/Geoff%20Bodine%2092%20Motorcraft%20Thunderbird/Picture057.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /> <img src="http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss172/beefheart22/Geoff%20Bodine%2092%20Motorcraft%20Thunderbird/Picture059.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /> <img src="http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss172/beefheart22/Geoff%20Bodine%2092%20Motorcraft%20Thunderbird/Picture054.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /> <img src="http://i573.photobucket.com/albums/ss172/beefheart22/Geoff%20Bodine%2092%20Motorcraft%20Thunderbird/Picture055.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

That is an awesome build! -
That is looking amazing! The engine and interior are convincing! The interior looks like it would feel like leather to the touch!

Thanks for the encouragement guys! Got some more done. The body is all decal-ed up, just waiting for the decals to set/dry before I polish the body and install the windows. Other than that, the only the left to do is the rear suspension. It's been a fun build so far. Especially after my JG build, I now know what and what not to do. Also taking some savvy advice you guys left in my last thread about spraying parts too. Makes a HUGE difference!
-
Got the rollcage, interior and front suspension completed. Just finished applying the last of the decals and waiting for them to dry so I can polish the body and install the windows. Couldn't get the edges to set on some of my decals, so maybe I can give it another go first. Other than that, I just have to finish the rear suspension and that is all she wrote. On the home stretch now.

Hey rick6343, I know what you mean about never seeing any old AMT NASCAR kits in an assembled stage. It's too bad because they seem to have a different aesthetic quality about them. Personally, I think they look pretty sharp. The kit is going together pretty easily. I've got a couple gripes about parting lines, especially on the body where I had to file down major paring lines on the front, but other than that, it's been an enjoyable build. I've got 10 more to build and can't wait to tear into the next. I don't know if you've read this thread yet, but this gentleman built a sharp-looking Bill Elliott AMT kit, but other than that, I have yet to see any others: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=14621 Which kits did you pick up?

Looking awesome! The holes in the floorboard are a nice touch too.
-
Ok, added a few more details and completed the rollcage. Preparing the rims and suspension parts for paint and assembly right now. Soon I'll have a complete chassis. It's coming together pretty quickly. I should get on the decals so they can dry and I can get on with polishing the body. Hoping by the time I'm done, the will look like it just rolled out of Bud Moore's garage.

Turned out pretty slick... I'm with everybody else... that paint job shines and gleams in all the right places!

Hey folks, I appreciate the encouragement I received from my last build, so I dove right into another NASCAR build: Not one of Geoff Bodine's best ride to say the least, but it was still one of my favorite rides regardless being that he was one of my favorite drivers. When I saw people basically giving away this kit on eBay, I picked it up with along with a butt-load of same-era AMT NASCAR kits for dirt cheap. But enough of the back story.
-
Managed to get the better part of the rollcage installed and a few other details. Starting to resemble a Winston Cup chassis. Started a new body, put the clear coat on *before* the decals this time. The decal application started to get to me, so I decided to take a break and get back to that and finish it up when I got more time this weekend. For the body front grill, I used a Tamiya paint marker. Holy cow, why didn't I try this thing out before!? This thing kicks butt and actually resembles aluminum when it dries!!

Crumby crackberry quality photos aside, that is one killer Cuda you got going on. Love that paint scheme.

2006 Monte Carlo SS

Just got my tire decals in the mail from Mike's Decals. I can understand why people buy from him. Scuffed the tires, added the decals and shot the tires with a dull-coat like I've seen other people do. I think it turned out pretty good. Got rid of over-sized jaggy-looking yellow stripes on the rims. I'd like to know how people get those perfect red/yellow stripes on their rims. I tried painting the black over yellow paint and then scrapping the black off to mediocre results, but decided it looked to sloppy. Any suggestions? But I think it still looks tons better with the decals. NASCAR models just look naked and incomplete with out the Goodyear emblems. -
I personally have never tried different brand sprays over top of each other. You might want to experiment on a junk body/piece of plastic. I spray over my decals too. Gives it that great look as part of the finish! Despite my recent tragedy when I got careless and sprayed too much on at one time and melted decals and details.
-
Too bad you gave up on the metallic blue direction. Then again, I'm bias towards my favorite color. Seriously though, the Italian Red looks killer on your Testarossa. I'm using that same red on one of my projects right now and looks red as red can be. Thinking about hitting it with a clear coat?

I wasn't sure where to post. It is a NASCAR I'm building, but the NASCAR forum appears to be all finished models, so I figured I'd post here since it is a work-in-progress. For those who are into cars turning left: here's a ride I decided to build because it used to be one of my favorite rides as a teen. I haven't seen the AMT Geoff Bodine Motorcraft Thunderbird kit built, even back in the 90s, so I thought I would give it a go since people are basically giving it away on eBay. Got the engine done and mounted to the chassis (which is next): Also did up the tires since I was spraying something else at the time. Applied the Goodyear decals and sprayed them with a flat-clear rattle can. Finished the body, but I will only show you the "good side"... found out why you don't spray Tamiya semi-gloss clear rattle cans over top of decals. Oh well, lesson learned, moving on. Since this kit is cheap and plentiful, I bought another one off eBay, should be here in the next week or two and I'll do it over. Thanks for looking!
