  1. I agree with that choice; against the dark body color, the fully bright ones are best. The ones with the darkened recesses are pretty cool too, but they need to be against a lighter body color IMO.
  2. It'll be a sad day when polished/plated Fuchs wheels don't go well with an early VW's body style. Those Pegasus wheels are much too 'Pimp My Ride'(just my opinion) Looking great so far Doug; keep at it.
  3. Andy - The red coupe with the wires and visor really looks the business. 8)
  4. I'll be glad to help out, Lee; besides, I need to grab that reference material for myself anyway - I plan on building Doug's truck in scale as a surprise for his 50th birthday early next year. as I'm not logged in here very often, drop me an email as a reminder. 8)
  5. I voted yes.....'hook a brutha up.'
  6. Nobody ever said Irv 'invented' the raked look; it's more of a trademark of his building style. He builds his models on a rake....many people wish you would step on one. Back on topic - looking good, Irv!
  7. LOL Lyle. And congrats to Irv; that Merc rocks.
  8. You'll surely get a charge out of it...like Mark did. Brian tells it best.
  9. I went with Matt's suggestion of the Hotwheels RigorMotor headlight.....can't go wrong, 2 for less than a buck. 8)
  10. When you're ready for pics, email me your specific needs. The truck is a little inaccessible during the winter, but he's not getting rid of it anytime soon. 8)
  11. Quick...everybody hide your car batteries!! Seriously, welcome aboard. I never invited you because I thought you told me about it.
  12. I heard once that small o-rings stacked on top of each other can do a pretty good job of simulating airbags. Hope this helps. 8)
  13. I finally got all 168 of my pics hosted & captioned. Ch-ch-check it out: http://public.fotki.com/VWDave/car_shows__...uys_east_coast/
  14. Sounds feasible, Craig, doing that on aluminum sheet; BMF likely would disintegrate in the process, however.
  15. Under Testors' emerald green, I've had the best results with a gold base.
  16. I forgot to say it when I saw the link on another board, but thanks for posting them. Lotsa nice stuff there indeed.
  17. Steve - I think I saw you and your Cobra at the Bennington show last winter; the metallic green over black really looks great, and I started playing with Tamiya paints shortly after seeing it. Here's the TS-20 metallic green over three different bases(left to right): TS-14 black, TS-30 silver leaf, and TS-76 mica silver....three different colors altogether And, yes, plastic spoons are a great way to test paint colors. http://public.fotki.com/vwdave/how-tos/tamiya_spray_paint/
  18. Nice work, Bobby. I've built a couple of those CRX's over the years, and it's one of my favorite kits. Don't beat yourself up too badly over the foil either; Rest assured I've seen much worse 'first tries'(including my own). The first time I tried BMF, I was very discouraged....I didn't even attempt to use it again for several years. All I can say is: practice, practice, practice. 8)
  19. Louis - I'd be curious what the projects are before giving my opinion whether or not metalflake is the way to go. It also helps if you lay out all the details(like paint brands & such). In either case, I'd recommend the correct primer and some sort of base color like silver under the metalflake paint.
  20. Yates - Are you after a specific set of the Arii wheels & tires? I picked up a couple over the years for use on my Mad Max models, and got a wrong one somewhere along the line. The ones I needed were the ones on the far right; the oddball ones are the second from the right. Sorry for the iffy pic; I grabbed it off Google. Email me off the board if you might be interested in them.
  21. Hey....the Sharpies worked out pretty well, didn't they? Great tip, Brian! I'm looking forward to trying it as well some day.
  22. Richard - While at a museum event last month, I shot a few pics in the museum's main exhibit hall....maybe these can tide you over until either myself or Billy can get more. http://public.fotki.com/VWDave/saratoga_au...tch_collection/ Sneaky peeky:
  23. No luck on the Nationals this time, Billy; I've got to work both Friday and Saturday....it sucks the event doesn't extend into Sunday, as I've got that one wide open. No rush on the Fitch exhibit either - according to the museum's website, it runs through November 15th
  24. Thanks for the kind words, fellas; I'm glad to share any time that I can. 8) Lyle - I do my best to capture the subject just as I've seen it....if I think it looks good, chances are some others here will wanna see it too. In the case of the runway pics, multiple angles ensure that I'll get at least a few 'keepers' out of the lot; we only get that opportunity once a year, so it has to count.
  25. The local 'Cruise Out' show we like to attend was this past weekend. Lotsa pics, so it took longer than normal to add captions & put them up. Enjoy! http://public.fotki.com/VWDave/car_shows__...ruise_out_2006/ And here's my favorite 'after show' runway pic of my Manx and my friends' Beetle:
