  1. If you have a model railroad shop within reach, see them; G-gauge animals by the German company Preiser are about the best I've seen....they're not cheap at all, but well worth it IMO. All of their animals come prepainted, and the version of G that they work from is 1/22.5 so it's very close to our 1/24-1/25. While not technicaly a 'diorama' per se, I used Preiser pigs for my Jurassic Pork rig. My local model RR shop had them on sale because they were discontinued.
  2. Thanks very much for the positives, everyone; the more I look at this little car, the more I like it too....I just wish Tamiya had made it a 2-door. Maybe it would have been finished a lot sooner if it were. Steve - The emblems did come with it, and they are very nice. There are also a pair of 'V5' emblems and one 'GOLF' emblem. I'm saving the Golf one for a Mk1 I have in the works and we never got the V5 engine here anyway, so the rest of them will not get onto this car.
  3. After sitting unfinished in the box for several years, I hauled this one out and have it pretty much wrapped up after a couple of days worth of tinkering. It's far from perfect, but I'm pretty happy with it. http://public.fotki.com/VWDave/my_model_ca...ya-vw-golf-mk4/ Back story: I painted the body with actual VW 'cosmic green' lacquer shortly after I left the VW dealer(2000 or 2001), I selected the Fujimi wheels, and finished the chassis plate off.....then I lost the inspiration and packed it away. Fast forward to 2007: A little wet sanding, some Tamiya TS-13 clear and a little fiddling, and it's almost complete. I need to add a rear muffler, the BBS center cap decals and license plates, and it gets the official 'DONE' stamp. A 'slump breaker' build always feels good to wrap up. 8)
  4. I finally hosted the pics of my neighbors' 2007 GT500 that I shot a week or so ago. This was a fun morning: talking car stuff, taking pictures, and riding in a 500hp droptop. Life is good sometimes. 8) http://public.fotki.com/VWDave/my_friends_...-kathis-07-she/
  5. This past week, the regional chapter of the Pierce Arrow club was passing through our area, and about 50 of them were scheduled to stop by the museum throughout the day. As my dad was born in Buffalo(like the Pierce automobile), the museum is just up the road, and I had never seen more than 2 Pierces in one place before....I just had to go. Grab a tall drink, pull up a comfy chair and enjoy. 8) http://public.fotki.com/VWDave/saratoga_au...e-arrows-invad/
  6. Woodland Scenics' lettering worked well for me too, although this one didn't get clearcoat:
  7. That's just too weird.....by any chance was this guy standing at the end of the aisle when you picked up that kit? Seriously, I'd return it and get another; you shouldn't have to start a new model project with CSC.
  8. Mister Bill, you never cease to amaze....this one is coming out great. 8)
  9. Looking good indeed.....gotta love a Typ3 notch 8)
  10. No pics at present, but my DD since May of '07 is a '98 Subaru Outback. Sure it's not a VW, but it does have a flat 4 motor....it also doesn't have the bowling ball-sized hole in the floor that my last GTI did. My nice day toy and my project car - '68 Meyers Manx and '68 Beetle:
  11. Everything folks are saying is true, Doug.....righteous build. 8)
  12. Great exhaust tip....pun intended. 8) I love how model supplies can be discovered in lots of 'non-modelling' places.
  13. Great tip, Dave.....any pics?
  14. Very slick Ghia, Doug.....I agree it might turn more heads than the Kübel. 8) What paint(s) did you use on the body shell? I'm really diggin' the whole thing, but the body really caught my eye from the beginning.
  15. I'll be seeing him today, as I'm dropping off some stuff to him; I'll pass the word. 8)
  16. And I'm sure it won't be your last either, based on the work you share with us. Congrats, Marc. 8)
  17. The macro setting on my digital camera, and the mini tripod I got off Ebay made a huge difference in my pictures; the photo 'cube' I got also helped a ton. Here's one of my models shot at a club meeting, in my 'pre-macro' days: And here's the same model, with better lighting, in the cube and with the camera set on macro
  18. I was thinking it was the other way around.....business coupes were always popular with the 'shine runners, because of the massive trunk space. Regardless of who is behind the wheel in your world, Peter, I like it a bunch. 8)
  19. You're a pretty goofy guy, Mark....but I really dig your off-road models. Those jump pics are über-cool. 8)
  20. You could probably get away with it during one of our winters, but not a Texas 'winter.'

I like it a bunch, Rick; a great job on one of my favorite kits. 8)
  22. 'Calibrated eyeball' - LOL Nice work, Jurm
  23. Looks a lot like the old Revell model T chassis from the Buttera kit, but all metal-like; I remember seeing it there, but didn't get the chance to chat it up like Bill did. I'm really looking forward to whatever it is, that's for sure. 8) Nice pics, Tom....sorry we didn't catch up this time around.
  24. "Stewardess, maybe I can help. I speak jive." What he's trying to say is: 'Welcome aboard, it's nice to have you here; make yourself at home, and feel free to share your work with us.' Glad to have you here as well, Jurm. 8)
  25. I caught that one at the NNL; super job on it. The Yenko stripes look at home on it with that blue paint.
