I tried hard to include Milwaukee and/or Madison but I lost :( . I do occasionally do business in the Milwaukee area so I will keep your list. Thanks!!

That's cool. You won't be far from me in Theresa. I see you will be close to Fond Du lac and I'm 17 miles south of FDL. Also Hartford has a great car museum. Lots of Kissel cars as they built them there. Pro tip when travelling...never eat at chain restaurants, eat local.

  2. Try adjusting your journey to include Milwaukee area, Model Empire in West Allis is amazing, then Hartford has John's Hobbies and Mayville has The Tinker Shoppe (not a lot of models but some) Plus Fond Du Lac has Focus right downtown on main street. Not open on Monday. There are antique shops in Waukesha that have models. Antiques And Uniques on 250 W. Main and Metropolitan Antiques 259 W. Main. Cal's Collectibles and  Mantiques. He has vintage models and old slot cars. There is a slot track in Milwaukee called Bob's Raceway on 5822 W Forest Home Ave which is not far from Model Empire. stop by me in Theresa and I will show you my stash. Who knows, you might go home with some.

  3. Model looks great. I looked at pics of manual consoles and you had to options, one with just the boot and trim directly on the floor and the console version which was a bit different from the auto console. For those that wished, they could easily scratch build one or 3D print it. I don't think modifying the automatic console would be easy, but it could be done as well.

  4. Sweet Mother of Styrene, that sure was a glue bomb for real. There are a lot of similar chassis out there that are similar and the Jag rear end can be sourced from a lot of places like the Buttera rods from Revell. That's going to be a lot of cleaning on the body work. Maybe duplicate the shapes with sheet styrene?

Shipment arrived today. Lotus type 33 and some paints. Never built a formula 1 car but this one captures the era of racing I really like. How does the old saying go. When sex was safe and racing was dangerous.  The Lotus looks a bit of a daunting task with tons of small parts and I still have tons of stuff on the bench before I ever get to it.

Funny thing about the Tamiya model, no plastic shrink wrap. No attempt to seal it at all. I suppose they're going green  or something.

They normally do not shrink wrap kits in Japan or Europe. Just a little round tape at the sides like was done in the USA pre 1965.

Driving home this morning and saw a Yard Sale sign. Stopped to find most of the normal garbage. I asked if they had any model kits. The guy brought out these that he had said he had for years. Both complete and unstarted. The Duster is still sealed inside. Got them both for $15. Now I'm looking for more Yard Sales on the way home. Just stopped at my second. Lol.

    Later-

Nice find. All we get around here is baby BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH.

  7. I am building my Firebird with the OHC 6 engine. I have reshaped the hood and now I need to know if there was ever photoetch parts calling out the Overhead Cam that was on the hood available from any of the providers.

So what is the group consensus on large-scale "subscription kits"? Everything shows up pre-painted and pre-decalled. Assembly can be challenging but the detail is usually pretty great right out of the box. Should they be allowed on the contest table with models that have been fully built, painted and detailed by the builder?

No, especially when the engines in those kits are rather clunky and toy like in comparison...unless of course the builder changes the paint, creates a sub model of that body style (a big block version from the small block version or maybe a Canadian Beaumont from a Chevelle) and makes the engine actually look like an engine

DDA Collectibles have announced some very cool 1:24 plastic model kits due in the 4th quarter of 2022. The first kits will be variants of the Holden HQ sedan, the Kingswood, a GTS and a Custom HQ. These will include body, interior parts, engine and trim.
    RRP of $69.95.

Update. I found the frame mixed in with another kit.But after doing complete inventory on the kit I am missing  part E6 gas tank half and part E4 front fender

I was reading about your quest and I happened to look to my right and there was sitting this kit. It's partially assembled and and has the fuel tank and fender. I am not going to build it as I think the tires were not the correct ones and don't fit the rims. It's yours if ya want it.

Just received this . 1/8 Agora supersnake. My completed one went to Shelby American. I get to do anything to this one. I have a wrecked Shelby GT 500 also.  I’ll mix it up and see what we come up with. I will change the color. Will detail it also. I like the freedom to change things up. Here we go…….

These are impressive and seem nice on the outside. I just can't get past the toy like engine bits. I'd have to 3D print the engine parts to get a real appearance, and at these prices I should not have to.

  12. Many years ago I drove the length of the West Camino Cielo which starts at Santa Barbara and goes near the old Reagan Ranch near Refugio Canyon and exits in the San Ynez valley. Not that I am suggesting you buy one, but I did this in a 1973 AMC Matador four door sedan. A damned near bullet proof car. Very rocky road and some points are very steep. Only damage I did to the poor sedan was a hole in the gas tank which I plugged with a bit of chewing gum. It was a former SBPD detective car with a 401 V8. LOL
