  1. That is AWESOME. Coming from a guy in a wheelchiar, i kinda want one. I gotta learn to weld!
  2. I will be spraying (or shooting, i haven't chosen) testors auto lacquer in hemi orange
  3. I a building an engine and will be painting lacquer for the first time. I know from past experience (and this forum) that you probably should primer a large part, like a body or frame, but what about an engine. Is it small enough that I can just shoot it straight without the primer?
  4. Hey Jim you owned a YUGO? That isn't really that geekish, thats a whooole different category! hehe just kidding.
  5. You're not a geek, thats EXACTLY what I'd be putting in mine if or when i get one!
  6. OK, before I ask the question, Ya'll are gonna think I am a MAJOR GEEK for even thinking about this. Well guess what...your right!!! OK here's my question. Does anyone know of a 1972 AMC gremlin model? My girlfriend's cousin used to drive one back in the good ole days and she would like a replica done.
  7. I guess I forgot to say what kind of paints/primers I will be using. I sprayed rustoleum white enamel primer as a base coat, and, PLAN on using model masters Hemi Orange paint as a top coat. I have not sprayed the Orange yet. I think I can still use brake fluid and get the primer off. I tried last time with 91% alcohol and it didn't work at all. I gotta go with something stronger
  8. I can't remember where I read or heard this, but I have heard that if you primer a body with enamel and then paint lacquer over it, it will bubble up and destroy the painjob. Is that true? (if so, its back to walmart for brake fluid)
  9. I just never could get it to lay down flat no matter how much body work I do. I haven't been impressed with the color and for some reason, no matter how much i thin it, my brush will not spray it.
  10. I have only been using testors enamel paints and am wondering what other brands of paints you guys use in your airbrushes? I have tried lacquer paints and I'm thoroughly UNIMPRESSED.
  11. I've got my model soaking in 91% isopropyl alcohol. my question is, how long do i let it soak? Sorry if I hi-jacked this thread. That was NOT my intention
  12. How in the world do I do that?! I have only been using my airbrush for a few weeks. Before I got it, I used rattle cans exclusively. How do I get the paint from the rattle can to the airbrush container? This is probably a monumentally stupid question, but I'm very new to the hobby.
  13. I have been looking for hemi orange paint for a 69 superbird that I am building. The only way I have found it is in a spray can. Because of how I tend to spray things, I would rather shoot it through my airbrush. To me, I dont care whether it is enamel, laquer, or acrylic. Does anyone know where I can find hemi orange paint in anything other than a rattlecan?
  14. I was able to get to walmart and get some 91% rubbing alcohol. I need to know how long I should soak my model in it before the primer will come off. Also, should i submerse it, or just float it?
  15. only thing i could find was 70% alcohol. guess i gotta go to walmart, or will the 70% work, maybe with some scrubbing
  16. Ok thanks for all the replies guys. Off to find either some brake fluid or rubbing alcohol.
  17. Do I wipe this stuff on or soak the model overnight?
  18. Ok, I think I have both of those, so I can use either one lol. Next question, Do I soak the body (of the car) in either one of those or briefly dunk it. Also how long do I soak it for. I dont wanna do any damage.
  19. I'm working on a 69 superbird, and when i primered it, it looks like the primer "ran" down the body. I went to bed that night, and when I checked on it the next morning, it was dried and wont sand off. I dont have any purple pond stuff. what can i use?
  20. I have been really getting into model building as of late, and I am curious about something. I understand that this forum (arguably) is the best forum on the net for model cars. What other forums to you guys belong to that is dedicated to building model cars? I haven't really branched into planes or anything like that yet. For now I'm sticking to cars.
  21. So far I have been using just testors enamel paint, as my lhs doesn't carry anything "good", i.e., tamiya or other brands. They have some laquer paints but the ony primer they have is testors enamel primer. (I know, I know, i really need to get to the auto parts store).
  22. I am getting used to my new aztec airbrush (model 740) and I need to know how you guys thin your paint to make it come out of the airbrush like it should. So far I have gotten it to where it sputters, and on the flipside, I've had it where it is so thin, you can see through it. Any help for this newbie?
  23. I am doing a 1970 superbee as a replica of a 1:1 car for a buddy of mine and I primered it with testors flat grey primer. I found out from him that his "real" car was "hemi orange". Will the flat grey primer make the hemi orange too dark? should I take the primer off with oven cleaner or do you think it will work? If it turns out good enough to be photographed, i'll post some pics. I haven't had come out good enough to get posted on here.
  24. Congrats Jim! That is really good news that you two were able to get pregnant when your wife had health issues. I hope the pregnancy and everything goes smooth. Congrats again!
  25. So, yesterday was my 33rd birthday, and I got a brand new aztec model 470 dual action airbrush AND the blue compressor by aztec. The airbrush kicks butt (for a newbie like me) and the compressor is pretty good. I know the compressor isn't the top of the line, exactly the one i wanted, but it will work just fine for a new guy. If it doesn't I'll just save my money and buy something else. Anyway, I just wanted to brag a little. Maybe if my next model comes out ok, i may post pics of it here. Ben
