  1. OK its been a few days and I was finally able to go to wally world and get some Primer. I picked up some Krylon white primer. I noticed on the back it didn't say anything about using it on plastic. In fact it said everything BUT plastic. It also said for use on NON-POROUS surfaces. my question is, is plastic (styrene) porous or non porous?
  2. What are the pros and cons of using either? Also, are there any particular brands that are better than others?
  3. That's just unfortunate. Tragic is a better word. Yes, i like tragic
  4. How bout this one? The price seems to be a little low for what I THINK it offers, although I know nothing about them? what do you think? http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=97080
  5. I just called my lhs and all they have (in my price range) was the mini blue one made my testors. It almost sounds like a little toy thing. Has anyone used that particular type? I have also been looking at the campbell hausfeld ones too.
  6. I have a birthday coming up and with any luck will be getting some money and want to buy a compressor. Can some of you guys offer up what you have and/or what works? I dont know ANYTHING about compressors. Thanks ya'll
  7. great work on that car brizio! I couldn't believe all the detail! WTG. Where in Oregon are you? I'm in Central Oregon (Bend)
  8. I watched it last name for the first time and thought it was a complete waste! I want that 30 minutes back.
  9. I just checked and I dont have an advance auto in my town of Bend, Oregon
  10. I know i'm still a noob, but if i may add my 2 cents in here, I use the polishing pads from micromark that are about 2x2" and maybe 1/4 " thick. Here is the link. http://www.micromark.com/SOFT-TOUCH-PAD-SET-SET-OF-6,7787.html So far I have not used sandable primer and have it down to a glossy, smooth as a baby's butt finish. Just my opinion.
  11. I'm one of the ones who watches the paint dry on whatever part i'm working on. Is there any product out there that will dry the part quicker? I dont have access to a dehydrator, although I wish I did.
  12. WHAT A GREAT FINISH! Did you see Dale Jr come from 10th to second on the final lap?! Crazy race! I gotta give an attaboy to NASCAR for the extended number of green white checkers tries. On a somewhat negative note, they do really need to repave that track though. Carl Edwards said that he enjoyed driving on the current surface because, "it was like driving a dirt track". GREAT RACE! I can't wait for California.
  13. are ya'll talking about the the square pads or the long rectangular ones? I'm not sure as I was given both as a gift. Thanks for all the tips
  14. I used to live in Ohio, and man that store was my crack! lol. I now live in oregon where we dont have hobby lobby. Can you buy online?
  15. So THAT is what the cop out is supposed to look like. That is a sweet build! I tried to do one of those, but lets just say, it didn't end well! Great build again
  16. Thanks for the help Harold. I will be at D's Hobbies on the 13th for the show off. the interior is done on the merc, and hopefully i'll be able to stick a paint job on there, but not sure. It will be there though! Thanks for all the help Harry, among others. Ben
  17. would a hair dryer wor for that?? I can steal my gf's dryer without her knowing.
  18. I actually meant to say tree hugger dave's tutorial was the one i read. Not Ed Shaver's, although Ed does do some mean finishes too!! Anyway thanks for all the posts. I had forgotten about warming the can before spraying. I guess a warm can is good for more than one thing!
  19. OK I know i'm beating a dead horse here, but if I get orangepeel after rattlecanning a body, I know its mostly do to the fact that I sprayed from too far away. Is there any such thing as spraying too CLOSE? Other than bumping up on the body itself? I did look at Ed's tutorial on rattle canning, and although it was informative, it's above and beyond what resources I have available to me.
  20. thats gonna be one sweet ride. I'm working on the same model actually! Good luck. I'll be keeping track of this one!
  21. Hey guys. I'm almost ready to wrap on my '49 merc and do the paint on the body. I've spent many an hour priming, sanding, filing and perfecting the body to the best of my beginner ability. Can some of you guys give me a "shopping list" as to the things I will need to shine and polish my body (the car) to make it shine? I haven't decided on a color, but will be rattle canning it because my airbrush is a p.o.s. (is that allowed here?) Thanks in advance! If it turns out decent i may put it on here. Ben
  22. I am looking to do a model bus for a friend of mine who runs a transit company, but dont know what manufacturers to look for. The bus I'm thinking of isn't your typical gillig greyhound type bus, but more of an airport shuttle type thing. Any clues?
  23. I've seen a lot of guys use car wax/polish at the end after they paint their models. What brands are preferred to get the best shine? Also, what brand of detergent is most popular around here for washing bodies after primer and body work?
  24. I've heard from a few people that they put down silver or gold paint on top of primer, so the top coat "pops" more. does anyone on here use this technique? which is better, gold or silver?
  25. As a lot of you may know, i'm working on a 49 merc and will be painting the body soon. I can't decide on the paint scheme I should use. Any help would be appreciated. And remember, I'm still a newbie lol. I also rattle can it still.
