Finished....for now.
ultraliner13 replied to SpreadAxle's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Hi Ray, A great job on your restoration. I have been bitten by the restoration bug and having a ball restoring kits that others were about to or have biffed out. I found a complete ERTL DM800 rear suspension once while playing in the rocks at the harbours edge. I spent the rest of my school holidays looking for the rest of that kit years ago with no luck. Hi There, Thanks so much for taking the photos you have done well. I like to see trucks in there working clothes. Thanks also for taking photo's of the Detriot Series 60 I have this engine to build and I get so confused on what model colour is closest to the engine block colour. Cheers John Wilson -
GMC Astro95 shorty
ultraliner13 replied to Brinx's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Well Done on your GMC Astro Slimline truck. I found that cab quite tight to cut down to a day cab. Going by photo's of the Slim line in real life you wouldn't want to be a big person tring to squeeze into such a tight cab. Thanks for sharing your modeling talent. John Wilson -

My last posting here mentioned I could not get into this site from work. Well thanks to Gregg and anyone else who was able to help I can now go back into this site from work again in my free time of course. My lady boss is very pleased as she also enjoys looking through this site at the wonderful models everyone produces. Thanks again people. John Wilson -

As of this month I cant even get itno this site from my computer at work. In my free time I look at what you guys and girls have in modeling. Now I get you are bannned from this site contact the site administater. I got home yesterday rather upset and tried again on my home computer and here I am in the site I like and respect. I have asked my boss is there a reason for being banned and she is disapointed too as she looks at the wonderful models as well. She has seen my collection and respects the time and effort required to get good results. If any one as any bright ideas my boss and I are listening. Cheers John Wilson -
Every once in a while a model comes up that stops you in your tracks and you have to back up and have a good look. Your paint work is fantastic. No doubt done with an airbrush. I take my hat off to such craftsmanship. Cheers John Wilson

Well I bought my first item off e-bay today but I had to fight for it. Reminds me of a group of woman fighting over a dress. Sorry lady modelers but I saw this type of grabbing with my own hands. I escaped under the table with nerves in tatters and ran for the door with my lady friend leading the way. Cheers John Wilson

GMC Astro A.T.L.
ultraliner13 replied to Twist67's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Just had a look at your GMC Astro. Well done on the cab cut down to a slimline. I don't understand why the window wipers are so thick in plastic. I have tried to thin my wipers down but then the don't fit. I really like your weathering style. If anyone out there has a photo of a GMC Astro kit with realistic wipers I would like to see it. -
What Possesses Us...
ultraliner13 replied to 93Z34's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have had many projects started and some unfinished. The picture here of my Mack was a good example. I started it with a hiss and a roar untill I struck the problems with the twinsteer setup. I put this project away many times untill I got fed up seeing it unfinished. I used all my stuborn pigheadedness to finish it and now I'm proud to have it up on the shelves with its other trucks to keep it company instead of being shoved in a box in the dark cuboard unfinished. 1963 Chrysler Turbine Car Question
ultraliner13 replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm glad I'm not the only one who shares an intrest in the 1963 Gas-Turbine Car. I am getting the Johan kit with the engine and I look forward to adding it to my collection of cars and trucks. I would welcome any comments on the Johan kit so I can get an idea on what I stepping into. Cheers John Wilson -
I want to build an extension and make a crewcab on my day cab. Is this possable or perhaps I've left the glue cap off the bottle. Cheers John Wilson

Are those flames applied by air brush? If so well done. If not so what the result is great. Cheers John Wilson -
Marmon
ultraliner13 replied to CITY COBRA's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I too bought this kit many years ago and man I was wild when I found the only Marmon parts worth mentioning were the grill and bumper. Glad I got rid of that kit. I recon that was Revells biggest con(my own personal thoughts) Cheers John Wilson -

Cummins KTA600
ultraliner13 replied to Old Albion's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Hi everyone, I do know of one Kenworth here in New Zealand that had the KT525Hp Cummins and was top of the range here for many years untill the horsepower race really started to gain ground here. Any chance of seeing photo's of the kitset motor? Cheers John Wilson -

ultraliner13 replied to Old Albion's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Hi Dave, I have watched for photo's of this model as you have progressed along the way. I would certainly have liked to here of how the construction went and what problems and solutions presented themselves. You are indeed a true truck modeler. Cheers John Wilson -
Autocar rebuild
ultraliner13 replied to SpreadAxle's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I have one Autocar truck in my collection of 65 trucks and I made mine up as a logger. I think I have made an error by using the big floatation tires on the front. If anyone can say one way or the other I welcome any correction if need be. I'm glad you turbocharged your engine, I did the same as I think 250Hp is to low for what I wanted. Now rated at 350Hp Cheers John Wilson -
Painting in "COLD" weather.
ultraliner13 replied to astroracer's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I never thought about keeping the paint can warm in my pockets. I always kept the paint can in warm water but spent to much time wiping the cans clean before using them Thanks guys. Cheers John Wilson -
I mainly focus on truck engines. Any engine can be put into any truck. Some older trucks have engines that wern't offered when they were first built. I have been in an old International ACCO repowered with a Scania straight six engine connected to an Alison Automatic gear box. The above combination worked better than the original setup.
