  1. Put the model in a freezer over night. The extreme cold should make the superglue join brittle. With luck you should be able to pop the pieces apart the next day. May sound crazy but it has worked for me. Cheers John Wilson
  2. If more parents kicked there kids off these XBox's and Play Stations and gave there kids something constructive to do perhaps the correction needed in parenting might finally happen. My Mother gave me a model aeroplane to build years ago and my Father shared my interests in trucks and together we build a model truck. Nearly 30 years later I'm still building models thanks to some good advice along the way. By the way the first model truck still sits on the shelves with my many other models. Cheers John Wilson
  3. Who cares about any mess. As long as you can move around good luck to you and your new space. Cheers John Wilson
  4. Well done on your build. Great photographs, well done Cheers John Wilson
  5. Hi there, A nice build well done. I built my Peterbilt 352 years ago and I had a real tough time tring to get the cab and bumber to fit right and the cab to tilt right. I ended up with my cab slightly to the left and the grill scrapes when the cab is tilted back anfd forth. I still don't understand why Peterbilt let the air cleaner pipe go up through the cab. A great job on your truck. Well done. Cheers John Wilson
  6. Hi Tim, I take it that there is either an 8V71 or a 8V92 Detroit under that big cab. To bad there is no E9 Mack V8 under the cab but then there would have to be 2 air cleaners. A great build just hope there is an Ultraliner under my christmas tree this year. Cheers John
  7. Well done on this build. The cab is fantastic and of course your modeling skills add to the final result. What engine is under the cab? The modern trend seems to be build a truck model with no engine. Not on my watch. Well done and thank you fro building my favourite Mack Cheers John Wilson
  8. Hi There, I have built this model many times and I'm told the motor is painted gold. If you can strip the chrome the engine does look good. I have always painted the chassie black. Interesting to note the mixer version on the box art is white. Once again I painted mine black. Good luck with your build. By the way I've been building model trucks for nearly thirty years and the DM800 was my second build. The little picture you see is my latest build with many changes. I hated sanding the chrome but the kit has far to much chrome but the job was well worth it. Cheers John Wilson
  9. Hi Lee Hartman, The very original Kenworth did come out with the torsion bar setup and you are very lucky to get one. If you can find a copy of building model Trucks by Phil Jenson there is a photo of the torsion bar setup and chassie ready to be painted. You are quite right on the kit being changed to spring and then the Aerodyne was released as a new kit later on. I hope to see your Kenworth torsion bar setup on this website some day. Cheers John Wilson
  10. Great progress on your build. I'm glad to see the engine with out all that chrome rubbish on it. Did you strip the chrome parts? or paint over them. Cheers John Wilson
  11. Well done to you, I have yet to pluck up the courage to try resin casting. At least you have. Good luck on your future castings. Cheers John Wilson
  12. A great build. Well done. Cheers John Wilson
  13. Thank you for showing these great models from model competitions. As I don't live in the US I miss out on seeing model shows and miss out on a lot of the great talent shown. Cheers John Wilson
  14. Thanks Dave on your comments. You have supplied me the name of the paint for the Detroits. I always guesed the colour of there engines. I have tried weathering a HO Locomotive for a chap but he just moaned about it. I thought my work was great as it nolonger looked like a toy. I even offered to buy the locomotive but no he just moaned. Cheers John Wilson
  15. Hi there, Great to see another Kiwi Modeler. Your camera serves you well. Cheers John
  16. A great build you have here. I'm interested in any thing with a turbine and I would like to know more about the race car your building. Cheers John Wilson
  17. A great buid you have here. I'm interested in any thing with a turbine and I would like to know more about the race car your building. Cheers John Wilson
  18. Wow what a project. I've just had a look at the other photo's of this project and I say well done. An A++ to you for such a great project. I haven't plucked up the nerve to do much weathering yet. Cheers John Wilson
  19. Good luck on this kitset. All of the DM800 kits were over chromed to the max and each time I built it I spent more time cleaning off chrome than building. My last DM800 is the mixer shown on my Signature. I hope you do well with your Mack. As an Ertl there are plenty of photographs. Be cafefull how you line up the cab with the fenders and hood. There are many traps and it can't be rushed. Cheers John Wilson
  20. Any modeler who sprays paint and does not wear a respirator is a fool. I have lost 2 model friends over the years because they did not protect themselves from the fumes. When I told my dad years ago I wanted to spray paint he said the first thing you buy is a respirator. For those out there who have got away with out one I hope you have been lucky so far. Cheers John Wilson
  21. I turn 39 next month but that won't stop me modeling. Cheers John Wilson
  22. I have been building model trucks for nearly 30 years and I still like to look back at some of the old builds I built many years ago. My first truck was the Ertl paystar 5000 mixer. I call it number one and it still sits proudly along side my latest build. My first truck means a lot as my dad and I built it together. Cheers John Wilson
  23. Wow what a project I would not have thought of a project like this one. Cheers John Wilson
  24. I like the way the engine and chassie have been weathered. I mainly just use an airbrush and various colours. I must try this diffrent way of weathering models. Cheers John Wilson
  25. What lovely colour you choose for your 2 trucks you have chosen to show. Nice to see engine swaps, it makes you feel pride knowing your models are diffrent. Well done. Cheers John
