  1. Very Nice! Probably one of the best build ups I've seen of this kit yet. Love the color combo. Is that a valve stem I see there on the wheels? You really went all out here. Nice work. LC
  2. I'm thinking something like that might work, but I cant figure out how to get everything smoothed correctly, or how to cut the tube at that kind of an angle so it can be smoothed the right way. LC
  3. Unfortunately, this is the only pic I have. I spent alot of time around the truck though, so i'm familiar with what all mods were done to it. Such as the roll pan, shaved handles, the tailgate was shaved and smoothed into the rollpan and bed-sides, and the truck was a full walkthrough. Here's a picture of what the antennas looked like, except there were two on his truck, and they were coiled antenna. One was longer than the other. Here's a pic of what the tailgate looked like - --- the model still needs alot of work. LC
  4. I'm working on an Aoshima toyota truck, trying to duplicate my friends truck that he used to have. He had some frenched in antenna, that I cant really figure out how to do it in scale. I wish someone made an Isuzu truck model, so this thing wouldn't be so difficult to duplicate. It's not going to be real close, just the color and snug top. I've got an S-10 extreme on the way. Maybe I'll hack into that and try to make it instead, but steal the snug from the toyota model. Here's the truck with the antenna. LC
  5. What color is it that you're using to paint all of these ferarris? Is it Tamiyas italian red? I have a couple of ferarri kits that I've been meaning to put together. One will be the classic Red, and the other will be silver. That is a nice shade of red you got there, though. LC
  6. Nice concept! Slap one of those annoying buzzing tail pipes on there like the tuner kids do to make their cars loud, and the victim would never suspect it. They'd think it was just another focus, lol. Any pics of the bottom? LC
  7. Looks good so far. A friend of mine in high school had one just like this, except he had a smooth snug top on it with no side windows. It was black. Dont forget that mold line on the back of the cab right infront of the stepside. Those are the kind that hide from you until that last coat of clear, and THEN you notice it. LC
  8. Ahh..it's testors dull coat. I forgot that part. I also filled the seams in the front seats with Bondo spot putty. Didn't do as good of a job on the passenger seat though LC
  9. Here's some pics. Here's the material next to a sheet of 8x11 stick on felt from michaels craft store. You can somewhat see the difference in the pile of the material. Here's my best effort at demonstrating how thick the material is Here's the material sitting on a freshly flocked interior floor. You can really see the difference between flocking and the stick on stuff here. This is why I feel it would make great headliner material - Here's a close up of the sticky felt from michaels. You can see how it looks more like carpet than headliner. Even for carpet, I still feel it is a bit out of scale - Here's a pic of the michaels felt material I used as carpet. It's just slightly out of scale, IMO. Flocking yielded much better results, and is easier to put where you want it. I hope to have some pics of this stuff in use as headliner soon. I'm currently working on a 70 Chevelle that I'm pretty much going all out on. I've spent close to $200 on supplies, photo-etch, paint, aftermarket parts, wiring, etc. I'm wanting to build this thing for a contest. I'm a bit stalled right now due to back problems, and have problems sitting for more than 20 minutes, so I havn't done anything but the interior floor at this point. When I get the body painted and the headliner installed, I'll throw up some pics. LC
  10. Tamiyas motorcycles actually go together very well. I was rather impressed. I think the hardest part was the two tone masking. You get two different designs though. The one I did, and the newer version of stripes/graphics. I wish they would do a GSXR. LC
  11. Oh, I definately have switched to BMF from now on. That silver paint gave me so many problems. The only reason I used it, was the BMF I was previously trying to apply was the Ultra Bright Chrome foil, and that stuff was just NOT sticking. I decided to give up on the BMF and just use the testors silver chrome in a bottle. Much to my dismay, after shooting clear over the body, the silver paint was affected, and dripped in a couple of places, and somehow dulled way down. I definately learned my lesson on that one! Thanks for the tip for the hood. I'll go search that name right now! LC
  12. lol. that hood took me FOREVER. That was one of the kits I built before my little break. Looking back on it, and the things that I have picked up and learned since then, I would have done it alot differently. I used the red glazing and spot putty by bondo to do this. Everytime I would go to sand it smooth, if the hood would flex just a little bit, it would crack. making me start all over again. Next time around, I'll use evercoat or medium superglue with baking soda. LC
  13. LUCK! lol. Honestly, I think it's all about how you prepare your surface and how you apply your final coats. The paint used on the orange mustang was Roadstar Orange from the Boyd line of paints. It was a rattle can job. It was then cleared with Model Master high gloss clear after the black decals were applied. Basically, I made sure the primer coats where as smooth as possible, with a wet sanding with 2000 grit of the final primer coat, to make sure no dust nibs remained and to smooth everything out. Then I started laying the orange, with mist coats. about 3 or 4 mist coats, then gradually worked my way up to heavier coats, and the final pass was one WET coat, almost to the point of creating drips and runs, but you gotta be careful at this stage. Then I let that dry for probably a week, since it was enamel. I wiped it down with a microfiber cloth, and then went over it with the clear coat. again with about 2-3 light mist coats, then heavier coats, and one final heavy wet coat. Then I let it sit and dry for about 2 weeks. Less time goes by when I'm using lacquers though. Not all my paint jobs come out as smooth, and I succumb to orange peel quite often. Sometimes my method of the heavy wet coat does bite me in the rear, and I get runs and drips. Alot of times, I surprise myself at the finish achieved after a paint job. LC
  14. Thats exactly what this stuff is. Its on a sheet with a sticky back that can be cut to size. The pile of the material on the sheet looks much different than flocking, which is why I say this is perfect headliner material. It looks different than the flocking. More smooth, like a headliner and less like carpet. I have a sheet in black. I'll see if I can get some good pictures of it to show the sheet a little better. Fujimi Lover, try your powdered flocking some day. You'll be amazed at the results. It's really easy to work with. All you need is some elmers white glue watered down just a little bit so it can be brushed on, a small strainer, and the flocking. Paint your glue where you want the flocking, lay a piece of paper down under the piece you want flocked, and then dump the flocking into your strainer. Go over the entire piece tapping the strainer over it to evenly distribute the flocking material over the glue. Wait about 5 minutes, and then turn your newly flocked piece over and tap off all the excess. Now, the pile that is left on the paper, just fold that paper up into a funnel and dump the remains back into your flocking tube or bag. Here's the strainer I use - And here are the results -- LC
  15. Well, the paint is Duplicolor Medium Blue Metallic from their Truck, Van, and SUV line. I picked up a large can from autozone. It's cleared with Duplicolor clear coat. The distributor is a pre-wired distributor from Parts by Parks, and the redline tires are decals on the stock tires from a Revell 69 Charger kit, with testors dull coat sprayed over them to seal the edges and bring the shine down off the tires. The BMF is bare metal foils Ultra Bright Chrome, which does NOT stick very well compared to regular chrome, btw. Everything else came with the kit. Thanks for all the compliments! LC

  17. The same people that make the fuzzy fur we like to use also makes a self adhesive sheet of flocked material that is perfect for headliners! It comes in a sheet that is approximately 3x6 inches, so one sheet should be enough for one car, depending on the size of your roof. The thickness of the material is perfect for headliner, and it's not as thick or out of scale looking as the stick on felt you can get at Michaels. You can find it in Black and Gray here - about halfway down the page, after the shifters.   20. Here's the old and new mustang kits, waiting to be built. I'm still waiting to get the 2009 Challenger by Revell. I'm not a big fan of curbside kits, so i passed on the offerings by AMT. I also need to find a way to get an RT hood for the 70 Challenger. I would much rather use the TA kit, since it's not slab sided like the new revell 70 challenger kit. I bought that kit anyways, but after looking at the box art more, and seeing some built up in comparison to the TA model in 1:24 scale, I just cant get over those side panels. Maybe I can alter the hood from the 1:25th RT kit to make it fit the 1:24th TA kit. If anybody knows where I can get a 1:24th RT hood, please let me know. LC
  21. My first bike build, a Yamaha R1 by Tamiya - I wish I could remember how I did the seat, as I feel it came out looking very realistic with a worn leather look. I think I sprayed flat black over freshly painted gloss black, but I cant remember. Hope you enjoy! Comments, both good and bad, are always welcome! LC
  22. A 69 Z-28 RS built a long time ago before I cared too much about accuracy, hence the rear fenders rubbing the rear tires - This was my first venture with BMF though. Revells 69 charger with the vinyl roof smoothed away, and AMT's General Lee decals and wheels - the AMT push bar broke in half, and was not correct, so I scratch built a new one from sheet styrene and sprue. - If I cant show the flag here, let me know and I'll remove it - LC
  23. Here's a 93 mustang cobra with a cowl hood that I scratch built long before knowing that I could get one in resin. I used the display base from a Start Trek Enterprise 3 model set. The display bases were perfectly curved to create a cowl hood if cut almost in half. an 06 Mustang that was my first build getting back into the hobby after about a 4 year break. a 64 impala Revell lowrider kit, sitting in 3-wheel LC
  24. Here's AMT's Camaro Concept kit. This is part of an Old and New series I'm building over a period of time. It will include the 69 Camaro and Camaro Concept, the 67 Shelby GT350H and the 06 Shelby Mustang GT-H, the 70 Challenger and the 2009 Challenger. The big three. All paint schemes will be the same between the old and new. Here's some not so great pics of the 69. I cant take any pics of them together yet since the 69 is on my desk at work, and I dont go back until 08/03/09. LC
  25. This is only the second bike I ever built, and my first ever two tone paint job. I was worried at first, but the masks supplied by Tamiya made it pretty easy. The orange is a custom mix of Stop Light Red, Turn Signal Amber, and some other kind of metallic orange by model master. The black is actually flat black, with clear gloss over the whole paint job. This is the paint combo I want on a 1:1 bike if i ever get one. Not a Busa though. I want a 2006 Katana 750. LC
