This is the first model kit my Dad ever built, he bought quite a few but this is the only 1 he ever started. i aquirred his collection here bout a year ago. ( he just has to may truck collections, winross, first gear ect.) ad i hated to see um stashed away never to be built , many i wont open, the open 1s i'm gonna build, i/m gonna build this one like the box art on the side, 2 tone green w black accents..i also have the fruehauf that was meant to go with it. then give it to him to put in his display case. (he's a Pete freak also, we have 5 and going to pick up # 6 next weekend..lol) what you see is how i got it, the detail on the older kits is realy evident..back when they cared if they were correct.. Project 53 update pic's, final stages
Scott S replied to Scott S's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks much guys. i'm very happy with how it turned out being my first forray into resin and major scratch building.. Kostas, thanks, the landing gear, tank and king pin placement are measured dirrectly off of of 1 of the Great danes i pull daily, i think it gives the truck a more "correct" look, for what thats worth..lol and a note, the stacks are perfectly straight...i dont know why in 2 of the pics they look tweaked, think its the angle i took pic's.. they are not.. Thanks Scott If anybody ever want accurate pic's or measurements of 53' 102"/ 13' 6" great dane reefers w carrier units, just ask, we run 50 of um daily. -

what is this?
Scott S replied to studioman3's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
That is a hi lift unit for dumping trailers that are not dump trailers, ie Box type vans, usualy loaded w chips, bark ect. they were popular before the dump platforms came into use. still see smaller yard useing them here in the east. Scott -
Heres some more progress pic's, tractor and trailer fenders are mounted, added "ticker box" to reefer, drain tubes, daul tanks, built a whole new ICC bumper patterned after the 1 on my Great dane, there will be removable tool boxes mtd between the trailer axles that can be slid off axles slid to proper spot and boxes reinstalled fwd or aft of suspension. still have to detail rear of box , lighting and some small details on tractor and she'll be mostly done.ignore crack on box @ left rear door, removed tail panel to add lighting, was a casualty. wont see it, gonna repaint rear doors and ICC bumper..DOHHH

W900 progres
Scott S replied to rronning84's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Gonna Be a nice one Ryan, the detail on those w 900 is pretty nice. thats the chassis i used in the Project 53 build. i've built so many of those chassis/engine combos i could build um in my sleep..lol 1 thing about um is the front axle is very spindley (kinda lite for the app. imo) other wise it a pretty gud setup. i gonna use one in my bullnose conversion but w an inline cummins in it. Scott -
Thanks Kostas, Thats why i drilled and pinned the carriages, so i can display it in different configurations...only prob is, i keep finding thigs i like to change and keep pulling parts off to modify or totaly change..lol i have whole tailboard off now to reconfigure the lites, add dock bumpers, and a heftier rear ICC assembly..i'll just keep hackin away till im happy..
