Which type of paints to use
Longbow replied to johngebw's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There is a DVD by Donn Yost that will answer all of your questions & will put you on the right path to airbrushing model cars.He has a web site & is a member of this form.He is also featured in the Feb.2010 Scale Auto magazine .I to am newbie & my lovely wife bought me a paasche h for Christmas & after some research bought Donn`s DVD.I have posted pictures of two models that I have shot with the help of his DVD on this form & will do so again here.I`m no expert but I `m happy with the results. The Paasche H is also the airbrush that is featured in the DVD.Thr Mustang is my second & the Willy is the third model that I have painted & built. -

Anyone Else Having Trouble With Photobucket ???
Longbow replied to Porky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I to was having problem with photo bucket. When I would post no matter what I tried it just would not come out any larger than a j peg file which one had to chick on to see.I went to Fotki today & life is much easier. No post problems at all.It so simple a cave man could do It.Sorry I could not resist. -
I to vote for the Paasche H .Got mine for Christmas & this is my second paint job which I did today.

Yea the more it drys the more it tightens up.I got the Perfect Pearl from Micheal`s.It comes in a variety of colors. They had a pack of four which had brass , gold , silver & white pearl. It is a fine powder like substance and a little goes a long way.The larger pack of pearls had maybe ten colors to it for $27.00.The smaller one was $18.00 & I had one of those half off any single item deals that they promote all the time.

I shot my wily today with Boyd`s Clearkote & added some gold metal flake material called Perfect Pearls.I mixed a small amount about a half a pinch & would recommend less.A little is a lot.

Well I finally got to touch the Mustang body today so I took a little sneak peak @ what the end results will be.Man so close but so far away.Patients is definitely the name of this game.I will clearkote it after playing around with it this after noon .

This is the first kit that I started & put back in the box because of the disappointing way the paint job turned out. I originally used Createx paints over a hot primer (bad move)plus I held the air brush too far away from the target. I proceeded to build a 32 ford roadster & after lurking around this site I learned that there is a right & wrong way to paint model cars & with brake fluid one can get a second chance, so I bought a DVD on airbrushing model cars & painted my third model a 1965 Shelby Mustang, which turned out fantastic. So just to prove to myself that it was not a fluke, and with nothing to loose I went back to my first model & gave it another shot. Well shiver me timbers, walla lightening struck twice & my Willy turned out great! Hope this is the right place to put this, because it is definitely on my work bench.

There are some builds on this site that rookies shoot for & hope to one day come close to the quality & visible appeal that your work makes us want to aspire too. Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Mark I will check those stores out.

Mine works okay I put the glass end into the glue & it wicks up for one to two inches ,which is allot of glue. When it gets clogged up usually from touching the melted seem of plastic I just flick my bic lighter to the tip & it clears right up.

I was looking into shooting nail polish,so I went on down to wally world & man there sure is a ton of brands & colours to chose from ,plus the price kinda shocked me a little bit,wow $6.00 to $8.00 bucks a bottle. Some bottles where cheaper, but like everything else to many choices.Kinda makes you feel like you are in the Women's department .Guess I should get my wife to run interference so as I don`t get those looks from the other customers .Any one brand better than another?

Sorry boohoo I cannot answer your questions , this is my first time @ stripping paint & the paint that I`m stripping is enamel.Hope someone with more experience will help you. Well here it is already to paint. The brake fluid worked great & I`m stoked about round two for this week end.
-
Thanks for the info but, As you can see that cow has already left the barn.I bought the brake fluid from Wally world for 3.00 bucks a quart,I only needed two quarts for the stripping process.Nice to know that It will work for lacquers as well, bonus Thirty Five hours & things are looking good for round two at the old paint booth this weekend.
-
Twenty seven hours & counting. The paint is like the meat on a good smoked Boston butt after that length of time , just falls off the bone so to speak.
-
Whats you soaking it in ?
-
-
Sorry about that,I will be more specific .The paint is wrinkling.
-
Well I will answer my on question & continue to report, after five & one half hours It appears to be melting .
-
I just put my car body into brake fluid about two hours ago .I sprayed the body with Krylon paints & primer, and dropped it onto the paint booth surface Well what the hey one moves on.I was wondering how long does it need to soak for, overnight days etc. etc. Thanks in advance Gary Thomason
