What Revell should put out as Kits...
Longbox55 replied to TheCat's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Depends on the project. Some of them belong to private owners (Knucklebuster), some belong to Stacey's freinds (the Challneger they "stole" and put a supercharger on it), but most of the Stacey owns outright (Rat Roaster, Sgt. Rock, Banshee). Stacey has sold a couple of them, namely Crazy Horse and Copperhead, and Wicked Willys is at his fathers farm, where it is used a daily driver. BTW, the Little Red Wagon 4x4 Dodge Ram that has been on the show a few times is Staceys daily driver. -

It would look much better if its stance was like this one. -

stone...wood...cook...willys?
Longbox55 replied to outlaw035's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The problem is that it had actually been painted in at least 2 different shades of blue over the years it was ran as the Swindler. The early version (which the car has been restored to) was a light metallic blue. I beleive there's a '70s Oldsmobile color that''s a match for it according to an article in Street rodder from the era. I beleive the color was Light Blue Poly, PPG #2955. The later blue car was a Candy blue, HOK Oriental Blue is pretty close. -
Need advice on "water based paint"
Longbox55 replied to sak's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm certainly not against aqueous based paint, but I've heard of guys who didn't use proper safety gear dying from exposure to it, with nothing that could be done to save them due to the damage the fumes did. In the cases I heard of, the exposure was less that 10 min. -
Need advice on "water based paint"
Longbox55 replied to sak's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Do you know what brand the paint is? Just because it "water based" doesn't neccessarily mean that water is the proper solvent. You might see of you fand out the brand and contact the manufacturer. It also doesn't mean it's non-toxic. From what I understand, the aqueous based paints are MORE toxic that their solvent based counterparts. Make sure you use proper sefety equipment when you spray it. -
No, there wasn't any tire presure problems, U joints and CV joints were all ok, no worn front end parts. But every time shifting it out of automatic mode corrected the problem. I've had GM, Ford, and even a few Jeeps come in for the same problem.

Ford Van... imported from Turkey!
Longbox55 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One of the reasons that the big fleets are changing over to the GM vans is the lower maintainance costs over the Econoline. The Econoline is well known for eating up brakes and balljoints, a problem the GM vans do not have. -
There's no stock kit, but I have seen the Orange Blossom Special 2 pulling truck cab, reworked to stock roof hight, combined with the AMT '37 Chevy car to make a stock truck. The OBS2 kit pops up regularly on ebay, and the '37 Coupe/Convertible is fairly easy to find as it's been reissued many times.

That's not exactly how they work, but it is how they tell the sales staff to explain in to customers. When they are in "automatic" mode, they are engages in full time 4 wheel drive, using a torque biasing differential to split the power, usually with a 20% F/80% R bias. I get people coming in the shop all the time wanting to know why their SUV/truck "hops" on turns. Every time it's the same thing, the 'case was in "automatic" mode. Put it back in 2wd, problem goes away.

Ford Van... imported from Turkey!
Longbox55 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Maybe that's why I'm not seeing commercial use Transits here. Most of the commercial use type vans in my area are 3/4 or 1 ton capacity full size vans, due to the need of carrying heavy loads. The only small vans in this area are vens that have ben converted into taxis. Oh, and I have toake bakc my statement on not seeing any Transits, there is 1 small Transit in my area. It is not a commercial vehicle, though, but rather a private owned vehicle with a wheelchair lift conversion. -

I have yet to see the first Transit in my area, it's all E 250s and Express 2500s, with the odd B2500 Dodge or Sprinter every once in a while. -

Fake. Neat, but still fake. -
Replicas and Minatures of Maryland has a very nice Flathead, with all of the components available separatley so you can mix and match to get the setup you want.

Fors must be hurting in van sales. I do know that many national fleets (A&E, Sears, LinCare) have been switching over from Ford to the Chevrolet Express. -
Modern Chevy big block ?

No. It has the "Oldsmobile" DRCE engine. It's based on the 366/427 Tall Deck truck engine, Mark IV style block. -

Only the Eastern Seaboard. The bulk of the rest of the country belonged to France and Spain. -

Just got back from the local farm store, went there looking for hose clamps to repair a pressure bleeder. while there, I alswys take a look over in the toy dept for any new releases in the 1/64 scale Ertl tractors. Nothing new there, but I saw they are now carrying M2 diecasts. Wasn't going to get nay, but right in front was a black and gold Chase version of the '58 GMC. Couldn't pass it up, as it's the first Chase vehicle from M2 I'd ever came across. Also picked up the Yellow SS396 '69 Camaro and the Bronze '68 Firebird 400. Would post pix, but Photobucket is on the fritz right now. I'll try to get some up tomorow.

Detail Master also includes keys of assorted types (car, house, etc) on their Interior Junk pe sets. -
GM trucks also use an H pattern, but that is taken care of at the control box at the bottom of the column. The upper is essentialy the same as the automatic truck. When you lift up on the lever, it shifts the tab on the control rod up to engage the 1rst-Reverse control rod. It's basically the same as when you lift up to go through the quadrant on an automatic. The 3 speed was standard equipment on 1/2 and 3/4 tons, and could be had on 1 tons as a delete option. There was also a heavy duty 3 speed option.
