Now that is some very nice detail, and well worth spending the time to do it,
Nice jig for the shocks,( if you use aluminium tube to hold the brass parts together the solder will not stick to it, also makes a good spacer if you are holding 2 parts together and need a space while soldering),
as they have turned out very nice, as did the drive shafts
look forward to more updates as you make more progress

Nice castings, good to see more KW stuff about
-
Daniel at Plastkit does a really nice T800 conversion, and the correction set
some of the best castings around....
-
What about 3406B or C, and a Cummins L10?
-
Great start to a interesting project, look forward to an update
-
Nice bit of detailing happening there, nice job on the front axle
-
Dave,
Very nice work so far, look forward to another update
How many individual parts would you have to make on a project like this?
-
Roger Inwood done a great little tutorial on making louvres
you can read it here My link
all you would have to do is reverse what he has done

Really no point chasing this up, They don't have the moulds anymore, I believe they where sold to a RC company back in the 90's sometime, and if they where going to re release them it would have been done by now,
The RC company did release a couple of RC trucks, but these are no longer made either, I have a feeling that they have gone belly up, what happened to the moulds from there is anyones guess
Dave
You have seen the Henrickson HT300 suspension, that I have done, now I have done the true Alcoa to suit the Monogram rims, and working on the HAS460 suspension at the moment,
Have also just started a new COE conversion to suit the W900 kit, the model I will keep a secret till it is ready for mock up, but I think it will be worth while
I am also looking for drawings or information on a Pete 362 if anyone has it
-
That is some fantastic scratch building, would be great if you could share some of your secrets on how you make your parts, like the manifolds etc
I think we all could learn some great lessons here

The 3408 would be way too small scale wise to put in a D11 R the better way to go if you wanted to build that engine is get a Norscot Cat 3516 generator and cast parts off of it as they are of the same class size or take one and cut it in half to make a V-8 . Although if you built a D9N you could use the 3408.
Leo
p.s. what would it take to get a set of those plans ?
First problem, Norscott don't make a 1/16th 3516 generator, so using a monogram 1/16th 3408, and cutting it into 8 parts, and adding to it is really the only option here, to widen and lengthen it is a easy way out, finding correct measurements
to scratchbuild one is near impossible, unless you had a cat dealer next door, all the external parts, piping, brackets etc could then be scratch built, or photo etched,
To give you an idea of the size of this machine in 1/16th it is 400 wide(over15inch), and 680mm (over 26inch) long, and the tyne for the ripper is 220 long (8inch)
If you love this machine, then have a look at this in 1/14 scale D11R build
thanks tony, yea i would love to have a set of plans for that dozer. i can use them for ideas on this project. let me know buddy.
The y are in 1/20th scale, but that don't matter, you can scale them to what you like
-
thanks tony, this is the old dozer heading a new direction. i saved the lower chassis and engine, everything else will be redone.
Hunter
I have a full set of blue prints for a D11R if you want to have a crack at it, you can use a 3408 in it ( real one has a 3508)

Flatbed is right, the best way to cover red plastic, or other coloured plastic for that matter is tan,
and I have found that Tamiya Matt Desert yellow (X59) is better than most because it is slightly darker
The light tan is a neutral colour, and it does seal off the red, I use it as a primer, as the matt gives the top coat
something to bite into, I also air brush it on, so you can have a nice thin coat that won't hind the detail
you can also use shellac, but it is a little thicker, it is what the older guys used, before fancy paints,
mind you they didn't have red plastic either....

super job on this one, nice paint job, does the drom have the gold added as well?

Doesn't Jbot sell stripes like those?
Jim,
I have a order with JBOT for some decals, 8 months so far and nothing, they have been paid for, and promised and promised, nothing so far
But, a friend in Canada must have the record from JBOT 2 1/2years he waited for his and all JBOT had to do was print them as he had drawn them
had been told they had been sent, various times, and nothing, then they had turned up, out of no where, post marked the 3rd DEC 2010,
I will never ever deal with JBOT again, he is unreliable, tells to many stories to be anywhere near what a good reliable decal maker should be

That is a real nice 352, look forward to seeing you start this one, wish someone made a 352 in 1/16th......

That is a nice little build, and it has a load...... Perfect
-
Nice one Hunter,
Love the dozer, what ever happened to your Cat Dozer?
Look forward to seeing an update
-
Yes the blue and white look great,
Nice looking work truck, the 6x6 make it even tougher
-
WOW, what a build
Thanks for the link Sergey
-
Dave,
This is a great little kit that you have made, is it plastic or resin?, or a mix of both?
-
Now that is some beautiful scratchbuilding
-
There is nothing like cutting up a KW, nice work so far,
you can also use the aerodyne roof to fit to the 36 inch sleeper you are making, KW in Australia used these on the gold nugget edition
Here is what it would look like My link
This is on a Aussie style truck,(SAR), they where also on the W models as well, but they do look cool I think
Who are you going to do the roof of the bunk?
-
You sure have a talent for scratch building, and that scale is just ...... huge
I look forward to more updates with this spectacular project,
thanks for sharing it
