  1. Charlie... that is one gorgeous build keep at it, it's looking great.
  2. Here is the kits radius rods removed and the new radius rods I fabricated. I painted the rods a silver color and used scale hardware nuts to go on the rod end and polished the aluminum tubing: Here are the MAS photo-etch wheels. Man were these a bugger to put together. They had me frustrated for sure. I have a few more sets of these for some other build but I will have to make a jig or something to better align and put them together. But I will say that they look a little better than the kit wheels but my other sets the main rim portions look better because they aren't as big: The new rods mocked up, I need to cut down the long bolts for the front and then just glue them in place then they will be done: Here is a straight on view. Now I am not sure on the real cars if they tires camber was like this or not and wondering if it was just the way the front end went together way back when I did this but I am half tempted to heat the front end up to try and make the wheels have a little less camber in them...lol: Another shot of the front end:
  3. Well Fellas... In the midst of building the Army Vega Funny Car, I have decided to knock the dust off of this build that I started 17 years ago and of which I painted 3 years ago right before I dove into the Army Vega build. And well since I have not completed a model in the past three years I figured it was time to finish the one. Keep in mind that everything you see here was done when I was about 20 years old Everything that you see in the 1st pic is what has been sitting for the past 17 years other than the Machined Aluminum Specialties Photo-Etch Wire wheels and the new radius rods. This weekend I worked on the Wire wheels and the updated radius rods. There isn't a whole lot left to do to this build and with our Local Contest coming up next month, I wanted to have something to enter since I didn't enter anything the done for the year before other than putting the funny car on the display table. Here are some pics to share... Here is a quick over view of all of the parts. Everything seen here was done as I mentioned 17 years ago, other than the paint and the front wire wheels: Here was the start this weekend when I was going to redo the radius rods and make the front wheels, as you can see I removed the radius rods already in this shot: Here is the kit radius rods removed and the new ones mocked up on the chassis. I ended up using 1/16" dia aluminum tubing and I decided to try out the TDR rod ends. I really wanted to use RB Motion rod ends because I think they look better but I only had one pack of 4 in the size I wanted plus I didn't want to dump a whole lot of extra money into this one: Upclose Shot: And another view:
  4. Ed... Thank you on the kind words and the advice. The joys of owning a house...lol. I will say this at least it wasn't were it flooded the garage just the signs of it going out and needs to be repaired.
  5. You are welcome brother... Hope you didn't mine me telling...lol .... Don't want to get you at me...haha
  6. Dave... Those headers are outstanding my friend. Man do they look nice and fit great. I can't wait to see them with the weld beads on them too . I know they took a lot of patience to get them just the way you wanted. Looking forward to then next update already.
  7. John... Brother!! This build is looking fantastic.... I love seeing it come together and can't wait to drool over it in person next month Skip... The stromberg carbs are TDR 3D printed parts from Shapeways
  8. Larry... Thanks for the nice and kind words. Also for following along with this build. This whole build I have been pushing myself to go farther than I ever have before with building and Its been fun. I also enjoy showing everyone step by step how I am doing it, Now I know the way I am doing everything may not be the exact correct way but if any skills or techniques that I am using that helps just one person I am happy. I am just as excited as probably everyone here to see what the finished car will look like...lol I want to hurry up and finish this bad boy...haha Joe... Hey i dug around and found a few pics of Door stands I took at different Drag Races. I apologize that I didn't get them up earlier. I have been running around to Lowe's and Home Depot Pricing water Heaters..... It looks as if my is taking a crapola and will have to replace it.... sure is gonna hurt the pocket book and set me back about 700-800 buck.... or guess it comes out of the Sherline lathe and mill fund...lol ... Here are some shots for you buddy.... these two may be of some help on your next project... I have more of these Pro Mods if you would like them...
  9. Niko... Thank you my friend. I had to have a cool way for it to be displayed and be able to see the under body supports Clay... Thank you so much for posting what you did, it is an absolute honor and it means a lot coming from you. I really appreciate it and it gives me that extra fire and push to get this build completed. As I mentioned in your Pro Mod build, I have admired your work and talent for years. I will be honest it has been tough always trying to stay focused on this build because I have many others I want to start but I really want to get this one done and completed first. You are right that I am in the home stretch now and I can see that light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you for following along on this build. Scott... Thank you so much my friend. Joe...Thank you. Hey when I get home from Church I will post some pictured of the door holders I have shot at the drags I have gone too. I have pics from a Vegas race and some from Races here in AZ. Ray... Thank you my friend. I appreciate the kind words. You know it..... I will be bringing it to the Desert Scale Classic next month with as much as I can get done to it before then. I have hopes of having the body in primer and maybe even a little more engine work done to it as well. I also have another build that I may try to bring...
  10. Clay.... i am in awe of this update. Gorgeous work. That rear end is killer. I havr to agree with a Dave about your talent. I sure can't wait until you show us pics with the car as a rolling chassis. Nice work my friend.
  11. Gabe... thank you John... thanks brother. Brad... thank you. Now I am trying to figure out what cor would look best. I was thinking of a steel color to look like raw metal or do I oaint it black or some other color. Not sure which companybmakes the best steel color. I could also go House Of Kolor silver base and tint it with some black in it.... hmm what to do...lol
  12. Ok Fellas... I got a couple more things done to the body cart. I got the brackets made for the front and rear to sit on as well as drilling the hole thru the long support for the end pieces. I may tinker a little more with this but since I ran out of some tubing I will be moving onto something else on this build back to the body and I will be dusting something off the shelf and getting back to it as well. Here are a few shots of tonight's progress Here I bent some flat brass stock that I had which will hold the front inner support braces on the car: Then I worked on getting the rear support mounts fabricated and soldered on: Here is how the back sits on the new brackets: And here is how the front will sit on the cart as well:
  13. Mike... Thanks buddy! Dave... What can I say but thank you. You know I gotta get my soldering skills up for the big super secret project Michael... Thank you for the kind words... I Should have this done by the end of summer but shooting for sooner than that. Dave... Thank you My friend. Brad... Danno.... LOL you guys crack me up.
  14. Joe... Your new hobby room is awesome and looking good. Can't wait to see it when you have things in place. Thanks for sharing the link cause I missed seeing that. I am so stoked for you with the Sherline Lathe and Mill. You don't know how bad I want to get mine...lol I just need to get the 3 grand together first...Lol. So cool on the 2012 camaro pro mod. Will this be available thru TDR when done? So stoked you are gonna jump back into a 1/16th scale build. Looking forward to when you start it.
  15. Bob... Thank you!! Joe... Thanks buddy!! I am really glad I decided to make this to go along with this build. Sure hope to see you get another 1/16th scale build going my friend, Sure miss seeing your skills around here. Steve... Thank you. Well fellas... I am hoping to do a little more work on this tonight ... adding a few tabs and maybe cleaning some of the solders up just a tad. as well as pull some other stuff out and tinker on it. Stay Tuned
  16. Holy Crapola Johnny Boy!!! That is some mighty fine work buddy. I have to agree with Harry that the weathering looks great. I am digging it and need to try that technique on a build sometime. I think it would be awesome if they tires had a little bit of the white powder or a hint of the salt on them too, Not where it's caked on but just enough. And Brad is right... Hurry up and get that engine in there already.... Nice work Brother!!
  17. Brad... Thanks buddy. I know what you ment Dave... I will get you a copy of the drawing when i get it done. Gabe... Thank you. The ones I ordered should be here tomorrow or the next day. I have a few things to work on in the mean time.
  18. Dave... phenominal work my friend. Those headers are taking shape and I love the apporach on the collectors. Very nice work. That plumbing on the dry sump system is very nice and clean. i am already itching for another uodate...
  19. John... oustanding work on that chassis. The weathering looks great. Just like it finished a run. It is so cool to see this coming to life. Keep up the great work.
  20. John... thanks Brother! I will be creating a 3D model of this body cart in Solidworks and make a drawing Of it with dimensions. And anyone that would like it i could save it as a PDF and email it to them
  21. Here are some shots with the body set in place to see how it will look.... Front view: Rear View: Under Rear View: Under Front View:
  22. Well Fellas.... I got some time to sit at the bench tonight and haven't been at the bench since last week. I was able to get most of the Body Cart Soldered tonight. I still have a couple of tabs that I need to make as well as two more support pieces, which I ran out of 3/32" square tube so I need to pick some up from the hobby store. I did get some brass casters ordered and they should be here in the next few days. Here are some progress pics.... Here is the rear section soldered together. I have just a little clean up with the solder joints but not much and I also need to add some pieces to create a U-shaped pieced for the body pivot to sit on. You will see in a later pic what I mean: Here is the front section soldered together. Pretty much just like the rear but narrower and the joints need some clean up as well as two tabs which will center the body up front: Here is the 3 main pieces of this body cart. The long center piece needs to have two holes drilled in it to mount the end pieces. I wanted to be able to take this body cart apart for traveling purposes, as well as some tabs will need to be soldered to the rod that will hold a support bar in place: Here is the body cart mocked up so far:
  23. Dave... Thank you!! Bob... I have had an idea for how I would like to display this and it is along the lines as you mentioned with having mirrors under the the body and chassis but I won't be using pro jacks... going to go a little more old school with what I have planned on using to prop the chassis up. Gabriel... Thank you for the info... I ended up going to Scottsdale to pick some of those up and the guy was out of them. So I ordered some tonight off ebay. Thanks for the recommendation. Ray... You are right... the clock is ticking away. I will be jumping back to the body now as well as trying to finish up an older project to have done in time for the show. Brad... I can't remember what those brass brads looked like...lol Danno... you are right that those casters are exactly what I was looking for. and for about 5 bucks a lot cheaper to buy them, then for me take a few hours or more to build them...haha Jason... Thank you. I have been trying to add some cool little things that I haven't seen or what I think would be a neat way to display it. Jimmy... Thanks for the link. Perfect. David.... Thank you, Means a lot hearing that.
  24. I have used Alclad's black base as well as shooting House of Kolors Black Base (BC26) with PPG Urethane clear over the black. I will be honest I had better luck with the House of color and urethane clear but don't get me wrong the Alclacd base looked great too, I just got better results with the other. My biggest piece of advice is the prep work is probably more important than anything. The smoother the area you are going to paint the better it will turn out.
