What Model Year is this car?
MrObsessive replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Billy, more like this............This Trans Am's an '80.... Obviously, this one's is in need of some serious TLC! Pic courtesy of eBay -
What Model Year is this car?
MrObsessive replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Billy, I'd say the tooling was done sometime around '77 or so. Monogram did make a '78 Trans Am (different front end), so they just modified the tooling to make the '80. Yours looks to be the Revell '79 as the Monogram '80 had an offset hood bulge to reflect the new for '80 "Turbo Engine" (UGGGGHH!!) -

Stunning Build!! That's one of the nicest buildups I've seen of that car...........and I'm big fan of all of Chrysler's "Forward Look" '57-'59 line! Your under chassis detail is spot on accurate, as that's how the chassis overspray looked in those days. I'd love to see you do a review of the kit as I have one to and it's on my list to build for down the road.

NICE!! My favorite color for that car! That seems to be a problem with that kit......the one I built didn't have a cracked windshield, but other guys have said that they've had that problem. :?

Very nicely done Dave! That is the quintessential color for that car! 8) Yes, I'm very familiar with that "smell" too.........but it usually meant for me the smell of money coming out of my wallet sometime down the road. I have to admit when it was running right and I had the dual SU carbs in sync the way they should...........it was a real BLAST to drive and take the twisty bits with!

Cobra Daytona Coupe in plastic.
MrObsessive replied to Steve D.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sad, but true. I'm still waiting for someone to do a full detail plastic kit of one of my favorite '50's racers.......the Ferrari 250 Testarossa with the pontoon fenders. Instead I have to shell out $200+ for a resin kit by Hiro. In 1:43, you're practically tripping over all kinds of neat racing subjects that will probably never make it to plastic. -
Volvo P1800 VS. 56 corvette
MrObsessive replied to JAFFA's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I gotta give it to the 'Vette on this one........if only by a hair. I think Volvo took some cues (especially the front end) from the '56-'57 Corvette, but nothing beats an open air 'Vette for a fine sunny day ride! The 'Vette also wouldn't have the rust issues that the Volvo (particularly the P1800) would suffer over the years. I guess I'm partial to the '56-'57 'Vettes also because of the model I built of the '57 and I just plunked down a good chunk of change for the 1:12 Danbury Mint '56 'Vette some months ago! Probably over the long run though I'm sure the Volvo was in the garage a lot less than the 'Vette for repairs. -
'63 Chrysler Turbine Car Update----Final Update!-6/23/07

I'm gonna try and get to Toledo this year.........I won't have anything earth shattering this year to bring but it's been a long time since I've been there ('02?) I had planned to go last year but the whole moving into a new house kerfuffle put the kibosh on that! -
Hi Ted! I believe it's been out for a month or two..........Don lists it for $88 in his catalog. I saw it up close and personal at the NNL East and it's a beautiful casting! The body was mastered by Paul Hettick aka Robbbbbb57 on eBay, so you know it's well done! Irv, you never fail to impress! Another show winner for sure! 8)

Cobra Daytona Coupe in plastic.
MrObsessive replied to Steve D.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, I have pretty much the same thought as the other guys here. I won't get my hopes up until I see a test shot or better yet..............see it on the shelves ready to buy. I have both the Gunze Cobra Daytona Coupe as well as the full detailed resin kit from HRM, so I'm not exactly hurtin' to have a new plastic kit at the moment. -
Oooooooh! Lookin good so far Dave! Beautiful British Racing Green! I owned the smaller Midget (a '71) and loved the car......but it's quirky electrics drove me nearly insane after 6 months so I got rid of it. ................And yes, for those of you wondering, I could fit in the Midget with no problem (circa 1985).............Not so sure about now!

'63 Chrysler Turbine Car Update----Final Update!-6/23/07
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I have a lot of photos for reference to do the interior...............and no one pic is consistent. I've painted the seats pretty much all one color as the differences are negligible. Ya gotta remember also that there is at least 44 years of age on those interiors............so some fading/wearing has taken place. -

Thanks Dave and everyone for the encouragement so far! I've been sidelined by work (changing shifts), but now I'm back to normal (3rd shift) and so I've got the interior work under way. Hopefully, later this week, I can post some pics of the completed interior. -
Michael, you can check out this site for some good references on '63 Imperials. Get ready for some serious time for BMF'ing..............You've got chrome trim on top of the fins, as well as around the wheelwells. For vent windows and a windshield frame, why not see if someone has a junker '59 Imperial they don't want? The recent reissue is out there, and someone may have the body they don't want. The '57-'66 windshield frames were all identical.

That came out gorgeous Dave! Not everyone likes the '61 Plymouths............but yours with it's two-tone paint looks really sharp and compliments its low slung lines. 8)

Mercedes Benz 300SL VS. P1800
MrObsessive replied to JAFFA's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I voted for the Volvo! I believe the black one is a '65 or '66. I owned a 1:1 '65 once upon a time.............and it had the same mirror on the dash as that one. I'm not sure when Volvo started putting them on the windshield header. Also that side chrome trim looks reeeeall familiar. That was another one of my favorites (along with my '69 AMX 390) but it met an unfortunate end when I got kinda crazy and knocked the rear end out. To rebuild or replace it would have cost more than the car was worth at the time, so I just sold the entire car to a Volvo collector. -
Perfect just perfect!!! 8)

Test shot Pics Revell '70 AAR 'Cuda
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Whoops! I meant to say the Ertl/AMT plastic division.......... In my enthusiasm of what I hope takes place, I got carried away! There are some other cars besides the '70 'Cuda I'd like to see from them if they take over.........but that's the subject for another thread. -
Test shot Pics Revell '70 AAR 'Cuda
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Well said Larry! I heard a little tidbit at our last club meeting that Lindberg/Hawk was in the running to make a bid for RC2. Let's hope so........... My understanding is that there are some real car/model guys in the bunch at Lindberg, so here's hoping we'll get a decent '70 'Cuda (among other things) from them. -
I got this link to check out this auction on the 'Bay..................the guy's gotta good sense of humor I got to say. But the real screams are the absolutely HILARIOUS comments below the auction. It literally had me doubled over laughing!! You'll want to click here to see it...........if you were having a bad day like I was, this might have you crying with laughter! You'll definitely want to click the link on the page to view all 20 remarks! Enjoy!

Yeah, that's about what I paid for mine.......but I lucked out and bought mine at our MAMA club meeting. The guy who sold it to me never started it and threw in all kinds of super detail parts to boot! Now the question is when will I ever build it?? Mark, I want my Shrink Ray Machine back ASAP!
-
I can see them fine on this end Bro! I ran them through Paint Shop Pro to lighten 'em up just a smidge. Lemme know how you see them there.........and when we get together again, remind me to get that program for you. Here goes....... Absolutely STUNNING paint job!

Thanks for the mini review Zeb! Looks like a nice kit...............at least they give you an uptop, but does it have the hardtop also? I like how they braced the body at the A pillars........always a trouble spot in convertibles.
