  1. Hey that's gonna be neat when done! We don't have too many of those here in the states anymore...............the rust unfortunately killed a lot of them.
  2. Your door's lookin' good so far Barry! The only thing I would do at this point is maybe tighten up the shut line on the leading edge of the door just a weeeeee little bit. This can be a little tricky as you'll have to allow for paint, but since the doors swing outwards, you wouldn't have as much of a problem with scraping edges. As Jeff had mentioned, the hinge support will have to be as straight as possible when you build it. In other words, when looking at the body from a head on view, you want the supports to be perfectly horizontal..........not leaning either way, and when looking at the support from the side, you want the same deal. Also as Jeff said, due to the geometry of the door you'll have to play around with the shape of the hinges. I built a '65 similar to Jeff's years ago with opening doors and I remember running into this problem. I think the upper hinge has a slightly larger radius than the lower one. Keep us posted !

  5. Gee........I wish I coulda made it! I had to work Friday and Saturday overnight and would've been too tired to make the trip and get back for work.
  6. Same here Bob! My favorites too are '50-'60's road racers............this is the first I've seen one of those built up close. I'm still wishing someone would do a plastic kit of the 1957-58 Ferrari Testarossa!.......or say a neat model of a 1952 Alfa Romeo Disco Volante Spyder! :mrgreen: Excellent job! 8)

  8. If you're talking about this one Andy......... I'm afraid it's D.O.A...... 'Tis a shame because I think something like that would have been a shot in the arm VW needs in that segment.

  10. Mark, I meant the '59 Ford line in general was a one year deal. The '58 is a whole different car, and the '60 is another kettle of fish altogether. The only thing they had in common perhaps were the chassis and maybe engine cubes. :wink: True the '57-'58 Fords had Skyliners........but if you crunch a body panel on the '59, you'd have to replace it with...........another '59. Same could be said of the '57-'58's but the '58's were only a mild restyle of the '57's :shock: I think even the '59 Skyliners windshield header was unique to that year due to Fords one year only "wraparound/wrapover" windscreen. I thought I read once that Ford designed the whole '59 lineup specifically for the Skyliner. Frankly, I wish they'd go back to 2 year styling cycles instead of hanging on to the same ugly/boring styling for years on end!
  11. Dan's pretty much got it covered as far as what you wanted. One tip I found to be helpful in attaching PE is if you need to pick up something really tiny, (door locks come to mind) take a toothpick and dip the tip into some melted wax from a candle. The "stickiness" of the wax will pick up the tiny PE piece and then you can attach it to the door or whatever. Edit: If you want to see a quick tutorial on flocking, tune into this old thread of mine here and scroll down a bit to look at how I do flocking. Hope this helps!

  14. Zeb, I have no idea what substance they are. When I bought them some time ago, I just picked out what would be suitable for what I needed at the time. I know one is a cone shaped grinder, another is a square cylindrical shaped one, and a small metal grinder. I also have a set of cutting wheels.............whatever seems suitable enough at the moment is what I use. The Dremel which I've had for at least 10 years, is a variable speed one and came with a few grinders in the case. I don't use it often, as it can be overpowering in some instances-------my own hands can do the job a lot better sometimes!

  21. Barry, I was worried more about the brittleness of the plastic since it's a larger scale. In the past when I've built the huge scale (1/12, and especially 1/8 ), I've found the plastic to be a bit more brittle than their standard 1/25 scale. This was particular to Revell/Monogram though. Also, I don't know how old the kit is, or if you have the original issue which is at least 20 years old............but plastic does get a bit brittle with age. It's one of the reasons I haven't had the courage to cut up those old builtups I want to restore! Keep us posted! :mrgreen: P.S. "The Plastic Punisher".............I like that!
  22. Hmmmm........you can try the method I use which is to use the back edge of an Exacto Blade, or you can try this method for opening doors. It will also be essential to get good photos of any '63-'67 'Vette with the doors open as you'll need shots of the door jambs, (both body and door) and how the door opens. Google images and eBay are excellent places for photos! I can tell you that the doors swing away from the body as Chevy wouldn't switch to a pivot type hinge until the debut of the new style '68's. I would only cut away and build up the door jambs one side at a time! Since the body is so big, you don't want to cut out both doors.................you want to build up one side------door jambs and all to minimize breakage of the rockers-------then do the other side. Since your cutting away the doors.............you'll need to replace whatever was cut away with plastic to get reasonable shut lines when the doors are closed. Go to my Turbine Car thread to see how I did this. That's all I can say about it right now..........when you get to the point of building hinge supports and hinges.........I'll stay tuned to try to give you any pointers that may come in handy. :wink:

  24. Thanks Zeb! I had some of those pics but not all of them............and I didn't have that site bookmarked. One interesting tidbit about that site is that there is a 2­­½ minute video of the Turbine Car driven by a family circa 1964. It's neat to see the other cars on the road that were common in '64. Click here to check it out or save it to your hard drive. The guy who created that site is very knowledgable about the Turbine Car as his family was able to have one for 3 months back in '65. He says that '67 Chrysler Turbine Bronze paint is very close if not exact for the paint used on them. I'll have to check it out and compare it to the Sunset Orange paint I have. :?
