those are some terrific ideas, guys !!! i will have to try them...again and again and again....they all work !!But to the original inquiree.....just try different things, those included and some of your own !! a stain miniwax........mixed with thinner and a tad of glue. Be very careful !!!! SPOON !!!!!

so what I am gathering is....you can dechrome if you wish !? Or you dont have too. !? Why do people dechrome....so as to paint a different color ? If you dont have too....why do it ? I guess its one of those things that you figure out thru trial and error. If I decide to, I will use the Simple Green, or the other, or the other, or the other. Thanks guys

Well Lee...sometimes I think so also (about the hobbyshop guy ) Thats why I am getting other opinions. So you are saying, that there is no sense in dechroming the plastic before applying BMF ? Or is it just better ? I am hearing different tales. I will just try on some other parts and see before I get into overkill. I do have patience and want to enjoy and not go crazy like some others. I am still all ears !! thanks again
-
Thanks David....Yea it was WIP. Anyway....question for you. This is gonna be my first try with BMF. And was told at the hobby shop that I have to remove the existing chrome. Is this true ? And is the oven cleaner the best rout? The guy at the hobbyshop said to put it on the parts and then bake at 200. I am all ears !!

tape on the grill ??? It comes with the kit !!! Or a no brainer !! Looks Good.......Did a Jimmie Johnson....

you guys speak in a model car language to begin with !!!! Do not make it any more difficult than it already is !!! Please explain some of the abbriviations that are so obvious to all of you model car gurus and not to those that are ignorant or not worthy !!! Maybe a model car glossary is in need for those who are not that familiar or astute !!! BMF WTP for example and all the others that are spoken on a regular basis. Give us a break !!! And Dont tell me ...I should already know this stuff. SHARE.... with us who do not know your lingo !! But still know how to build a model car !! thanks

I agree with Dave and Scalemaster. You sound very angry, frustrated. Could not make sense of some of the things you were trying to say. I think I told you that I used Testors Clear on a Jimmie Johnson Nascar. Plenty of decals and all went well. Used Solvaset on the decals first and then spryed with clear. Not happy the way it did my windows but was told different and Revell sent me a new set. No big deal. Its a hobby....relax...enjoy...learn from your mistakes. I try not to use different brand names on the same model. If I start with Testors, I do it all with Testors and likewise with Tamiya. And the Future...you can brush also. If your build is that much of a disaster....turn it into a junker type with rust, dents and all. Maybe you will find that, that is your nich !! Like my Pappy always use to say " Son, if you are dealt a lemon....learn to make lemonade " Good luck

Wow !!!Something went wrong somewhere for paint not to adhere to plastic after 3 tries. And just the hood ? Need to retrace something here. What about the body ? did you use the same technique on both ? The answer could be very simple....not technical.
-
No technical explannation. Just wait a few days....what is the hurry. For every application you make on anything...it does not hurt to wait awhile until the next is applied. I am sure I will catch something from this! Thats ok with me. Its just model car building.....dont take the fun out of it !! Its for you !!
-
Sounds to me as if you know what to do...you are just lookin for approval from the Gurus !! Just do what you think ! Use your skills, which obviously you have them, and just do it. You would not have come up with these ideas if you did not already know to some degree, what to do ! Who am I or anyone else to tell you what to do and then it comes out wrong? Or not to your liking. Just do it !!! Its a model car and its you and your time. Happy Easter !!!

did a jimmie johnson nascar with a billion decals.....used Solvaset and let it dry for a few days....sprayed with clear and everything is fine. I have read so many tips...solutions and tecniques on this site, its unreal. I realy think that its a lot trial and error and the use of everyones ideas.... its model car building!! Dont take the fun out of what you are doing. Experiment and have fun...what works for some, might not work for you. Its not rocket science....have fun, you might come up with something that is new to everyone !!

Got to chime in Dave ! So his grammar or whatever is not so correct ! Gosh, alot of things I read on here are not all that correct and even some of the builds are not all that great, but the people who respond are at least kind enough to say otherwise (must be the ones who are in the incrowd) Maybe Jimmy is not as fortunate as you when it comes to education but at least he is trying. I just can not figure this out. How can you tell from a picture and bad grammar who built it and who did not? Read my post on the Ventura. Maybe by reading this post and the other, you can tell me what I had for breakfast this morning !! Its just model car building....not rocket science or as far as that goes...an English class !! Help someone out....do'nt putem down !! oops, there might be an error here somewhere !!! "Why can'nt we all....just....get along ?"
-
Boy, Jimmy, see what you caused ?! Nice build...dont know all the termanology all the other guys use, heck I'm still havin trouble posting pics. Gosh, I hope I am never accused of posting a build that I did not do. That just would not set right with me ! I'm 61 and I find it kinda petty to do such !! As old Jack once said "why can'nt we all...just...get along " ? Nice build Jimmy and there are other show and tell sites !!

Thats pretty cool. I have got to try some of these things...the old look and dioramas. still in the box sorta...plus I still ca'nt figure how to post pics.... Sometimes I can but they have to be opened up. They dont just appear as yours do. Any advise ?
-
Thats cool...I remember seein this when you started and had the tutorial on the hood hinge. I did finishe Jimmie Johnson but still can not get the pics posted. Have no problem posting on ACME..Atlanta Car Model Enthusiests. Anyway good job. Will keep tryin.

Great tutorial Bill. I was thinking the other day about needing some tips on the painting and polishing etc. And at the same time I wondered if anyone had ever put together a tutorial on Builing a model from beginning to end. And bingo!!! Yours showed up !! Am I correct in understanding that you brush the acrilic floor wax on and then spray your color afterwards, 6 to 8 coats ? And no clearcoat ? And then do the polishing with the different clothes ? Getting ready to start a new build and am gonna use some of your techniques. Sorry about your cat and to everyone else also. I lost my Lab of 10 years and my cat of 14 years this past Nov. and my youngest nephew of 38 about 5 weeks ago. Loses are hard but they are enevetable. We just move on the best we can. GREAT TUTORIAL....now if I could just figure out how to post my pictures, I would be in high cotton.

That is so cool. Have not come that far yet but I like it ! Just bought a 31 ford pickup today. I hate messin that up but I guess thats what its all about. Maybe I will buy a less expensive model to experiment with. But I really like it.
-
Thanks for the expla. I assume that the build has a underspray coat which you want to come thru ? After the salt and finish coat...correct ? Thats pretty cool. I have some builds I would like to share on here but still having problems posting them.
-
Ok...call me GREEN !! What is the deal with salt ? What does it do and why are we doing this? Does it clean ? Give the paint a special look ? Please explain.....thanks....mr. greenjeans.
-
On the posting thing...kinda. I go around the world to get across the street, if you know what I mean. I could probaly cut out about half of the steps I go thru. will get better.
-
This is after one coat of clear...are you sayin I can lightly buff without messin up the decals and then recoat? Sorry to bother you
-
-
that is pretty cool and I like what you did to the hood. Thought about puttin Pink Lady on my next build but goota get done with Jimmie first. I sprayed gloss enamel clear coat today and it seems pithy lookin...not smoooth. And thru the advise from the hobby shop..I sprayed with the windows in. Might have been too cool. Can I lightly buff the body and respray.Without messin up the decals ? Should have sent you a picture but still workin on that. Maybe later. thanks

I finally figured it was the IMG and tried it yesterday and posted one picture of a 48 ford. I thought I had copied several and pasted but when it appeared on the forum it was only the last one I copied. Now to figure out how to post several pictures of one car on the same post ? Thanks so much for your help and to the others also. Finished the decals and will put a clear coat on today and maybe by race time I will have in on the forum. Still have alot to learn on this site. So many decals...but its over. thanks again..
