Cranky's Tissue Paper Upholstery & Headliner Quicky
vaughn replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Cool stuff Cranky. I have yet to build a clunker with rust and all. I think one of the first cars I saw on this site was a junked PU truck and I loved it. I would find this , like you said to be stress release from the perfect show rod etc. One question. Do you buy a new kit and purposely do this or take one that your not satisfied with and go nuts on it. And if you buy one....buy a cheapy? I have got to do this. Great tutorial !!! -
Does not look like orange peel to me. Maybe paint compalabilaty. I realy liked the flat black look. But. Let it dry thorughly....I mean dry dry. Sand smooth with coarse to fine. clean and respray. Looks like you were too close and sprayed too heavy. Light coats, I find are better for the first few and then a wet coat. But thats just me. Good luck.

Very nice build man. Engine detail ? Where ?

thanks for all the comments...... the answer to how I did the wood ? Well, You take one year saplings. Strip them and let them dry for about a month in a controled enviornment. lay them out on a piece of hardboard and cut them to your near size. Once done, you can use them as a decal sorta with some trimming but a little wood stain before hand is a good idea. They are very thin and will break and tear...but its wood. Other than that .....Its a decal. Thanks

Being too picky.....thicken your blackwash just a little......just a little and dip your brush back into the black and then the blackwash. Its not rocket sience. Experiment !!! It will be ok. goodluck

Dont know what to really say. Yes to everyone but sometimes....you just got to figure it out....under you own situation ! Good luck. It will be fine.

This has been in the shop for awhile now. Had paint compatibility problems, fitting issues and some other minor problems. But after firing my painter and finding another body man, I finally finished. Did some BMF on the window trim and hood vents and stepping boards. The paint is Testors Metalic Black and 50s Aqua. V8 motor with mostly chrome. Flat green interior with tan door panels. Simulated wooden bed and cattle rack. O Yea...and a surf board. Surfs Up.

Major Issue WIth Testors One Coat Lacquer (Help!)
vaughn replied to Duntov's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
For awhile there I thought I was the only one experincing compatible problems with testors. Thought it was the humdity and probably was. But a good drying and wet sanding and some days of low humidity and another spray and polishing and persistence...I got it worked out. Will post a 37 Ford PU painted with Testors Aqua and Metalic Black, probably this weekend. Good luck and stick with it ! -
Did this several months back. good kit
-
Nice build all around. One coat testors ? Did you put a clear on afterwards ? Polish ? Looks great !!
-
Mist coats after the other and not to heavy.. KEEP THE PAINT MIXED..mist, mist, mist and as yo do it get heavier and then after a good drying....do a good wet coat. Just did a metalic black...and was worried, but kept at it and now..I am ok with it...even tho you can not see it in te photos.

Thanks Ray....looks like a good site. signed up late last night and now I have got a billion requests to be a friend and all the requests ! Dont get it ! Not my life.....just a hobby. letting my project just sit awhile and did some detailing.....will get back to it when the weather, co-operates. But really is a good site. Thanks for the comments and help. Whats the deal with TreeHugger ? Do you know ?
-
Well..so its the weather to a degree !! Do you think stripping is too radical at this point and just go fishin or tomato pickin and keep what I had in mind? Orange peel cure is what I need. For now, and/or later. Thanks
-
You are probably right about the heat and humidty. No dehydrator. having problems staying logged in and posting photos. I will check the site out !
-
OK...Been workin on this off and on for a short while. Between my work and vegy garden and the heat..its been slow. Anyway....Having problems with orange peel, which has never been an issue with other projects. My goal is to have the fenders and frame in metalic black, which is hard to see in these photos. The cab and other parts are to be Aqua. The stepping board will be BMF as will other areas when all is finished. The truck bed will be simulated wood or wood. Interior is flat green with tan panels and black floor and of course the chrome pieces are to come. After painting/ drying/wetsanding/drying/painting/drying/and wetsanding..several times...I am still not happy with the results(orange peel) and am thinking of stripping all paint(starting over) or make a rusted out junker or a faded paint job effect. Patience is one of my virtues BUT...am ready to move on !! Or go pick tomatoes for a while !! Any advise on the orange peel is welcome. Have read many tips and have followed them and other hobbiest. If it was'nt so hot, I would go fishing !! I will...make this work !! Here she is. Having problems witht the posting of photos....will get back. or go to photobucket and go to.... lezodus.
