How safe is your driving?
highway replied to Custom Hearse's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It told you the posted limit was right!?!? What did you answer?? I answered "only as fast as it is safe to drive" for that one (and I just retook it and answered that again to make sure) and it scored it as correct. By the way, I got 100% on the retake!! -
OMG! You have to see this!!!

What does it matter anyway, you live in the Autobahn of the US!! I always loved seeing that speed limit sign when I drove the big truck into Montana, I think the trucks were limited to 70 or 75 MPH, but I always got a laugh out of the "Safe and Prudent" speed limit for cars! -

Exactly!!! I figured only the turning left when a passing lane is provided was right. That is just bull!!! Remind me to never go with that insurance, by my 80% score because of their idiotic answers, they'd think I was a bad driver!! Oh, and one other question I missed is the one about merging on a freeway, I answered the posted speed limit. Since when if the speed limit is 55 and all the other idiots are driving 70 or 75 MPH does that give me the right to break the law like the cell phone texting idiots that need that phone shoved up their BLEEPS!?!?! -

Nice work Jared, I really have to pick one of those up again. That was my favorite dream truck back in the day!

First off, I want this to be clearly noted, MY STATEMENT I AM ABOUT TO MAKE IS MEANT TO HAVE NO HOSTILITY TOWARDS JOHN AT ALL, JUST MERELY COMMENT ON OTHER COMMENTS I'VE READ HERE TODAY! There have been many comments, first off, on John's skill level and reputation as a builder and John even stated he is not a NASCAR builder and that he was not going for accuracy. Even with that, looking back through everything said and the pic of the model I see it this way, there are flaws that have been pointed out already, using the brake discs and lug spacing on the rear as an example, that builders of the caliber of John just are not expected to make, whether it is a build "out of the comfort zone" or not. It's still basically just a car, yes a purpose built car, but still a car regardless. I'm sure no matter the builder or vehicle being built that would have been brought up sooner or later. Second, on the detailing subject, it has been brought up about how much was spent on the detail products. What does that really matter? Whether you spend $20 and put it on a well built model and using just merely to enhance the detail of the model or you spend $100 and throw it on haphazzardly just to add "bling", in my opinion the $20 was well spent and the $100 was wasted just to add to the "wow" factor. Moreover, again looking back again at the photos with an unbiased eye, there were just a few things in the detailing department that caught my eye. The biggest was the braided line coming from the top of the alternator. Did anyone else happen to notice that line runs back along the rollbars to the firewall, makes a right turn (as you look at the pic) and continues along the firewall, then turns and follows the forward section of the rollcage and goes directly into the top of the power steering pump!?!? I'm sorry, but I have never seen any form of automobile where the charging and power steering system have been connected! It also appears to me some decals have just been added for extra "bling", as was mentioned (I think) about the "Wrangler" decal on the driveshaft, I thought they just made clothing! I also noticed a "The Wax Shop" decal on the oil filter when there is a much more appropriate "Wix Filters" decal on the nose of the Earnhardt Jr donor kit! Lastly, my views of the whole "hosititly" versus "I build for myself" agrument, because I feel these tend to go hand in hand. The "hostility" issue, at least from my point of view, wasn't even an issue until the whole "I build for myself" card was played. I feel the posts relating to valid points on building or general detailing that could be done on any model regardless of subject were as contructive criticism, not "hostility". If this was my thread and not John's, those posts would probably make me sit down at the bench and start questioning myself or even make me say "Huh, maybe I should rethink this." or "You know, looking back at it, maybe (insert a poster's name here) has a point, that doesn't look right. How did I miss something like that!?!?". Maybe I have a thicker skin than some, but even though "I build for myself", I will ALWAYS take the time to rethink something if an issue is brought up! By the way, I never have or never use the "I build for myself" excuse, because I build for the harshest critic I have EVER found, THE LITTLE VOICE THAT LIVES IN MY HEAD!!

Well, if you have the air dam, you don't have to worry about it! Thanks for the measurements, too, I just am too lazy to have done that yet! I guess that shoots my original idea I had last night of using the strip as a guide to cut the bumper and just add a strip of styrene in its place to make the recess. Back to the drawing board!! -

Actually Roger, I think the strip and the recess is the same size. I was comparing the pics of the kit box I posted last night to a better pic of the bumper of my 1:1 in my WIP thread that is close to the same angle as the boxart pic, and it looks like the kit's bumper strip is the same size. I think here shortly I'm going to get the kit bumper out and check for sure. Oh, Hugh, I noticed one other thing that would have to be modified on the bumper if you don't have this, the rubber air dam underneath. It looks like you don't have that just like I don't, but the kit bumper does! -

highway replied to Monty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You know, I'm just wondering, since Jim says he doesn't get the SQL error like the rest of us, what internet provider does everyone have? If for some reason we have a common provider, it may be a problem through the provider and not us or the site. Oh, by the way, I have Comcast/Xfinity. -
Pete, I have the spell check, which is called ieSpell, installed from here and I haven't had any problems. I used it last night a couple of times and worked fine. One thing I have found after using it, though, is you have to watch when you continue typing after checking something while you are posting, because it will stop typing in the reply box and then whatever keys you hit are being read as if you would be holding the control key and if you type "N", next thing you know a new window is opening. I have no clue why that happens, but if you spell check while you are still typing a reply, make sure the cursor line is still there, and if it disappears, just click your left mouse button and it will come back. Also Jim, the reason when you click on the ABC check icon it wants you to download something is because you don't have the ieSpell add-on installed on your computer. It's your choice whether to add it or not, but I found that the ieSpell not only works on this site, but everywhere.

It's not only you, I get the SLQ server error almost once a day. It's been happening almost constantly like that ever since the site was hacked and down for a time there around the first of the year. -

No, I'm starting with the F350, since you can't really tell from the bumper pic I posted that mine is a dually, BUT, they are still the same kit with the exception of the bed sides and wheels! What was even more fun was my frame, because I had to cut my cab just like you did, but my frame is a chassis cab, the previous owner was the owner of a towing company I worked for, and he told me it was an old wrecker in its former life. He put a regular dually bed on it when it was rebuilt, and that and the chassis cab frame results in a 6 inch gap between the bed and cab. Oh, and not only do I have to build front leaf springs, I have to build the massive 15 leaf rear springs too!! The kit's rear springs just might become my front springs!! I haven't done anything on mine since late April, but if you want to see what a pain I have ahead of me, here's a link to my WIP. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=43025&st=0 -

Ha, just be glad you don't have to do all the other mods to make mine right, including making the engine look like a diesel, if you couldn't tell that by the electric cord going in the grille in the pic!! Talk about pressure!! I think I might have come up with an idea, though, I'll try it (hopefully) soon and let you know how it works, and if it doesn't, I'll need to find a new bumper!
