  1. Thanks Doc, it landed me in the ER a couple months ago too... My Doctors' have narrowed the cause down to either Blood Pressure or an inner ear problem... I had trouble with both at the same time so it was difficult for them to figure out what was doing what... I'll take the advice I know you'd give... "Take two whiffs of fresh styrene and call me in the morning..." HAH!
  2. Count me in for the next one... Maybe the vertigo will lay off this time... I would have finished that little 'Vette had it not hit me so hard...
  3. I've done similar things.... I'll get a call or a visit from a friend who doesn't have a PayPal account who wants something on eBay... It's reaally easy, I buy it, have it sent to me, he then buys it off of me. No worries. I hope this works out for you! Cheers! Chris
  4. Furious. Ball. Of. Aluminum. Foil! I'll be watching...
  5. Looking good! Keep 'em coming!
  6. Richard, thanks for the article... It definitely will help! Kevin, colors noted, thanks, buddy! Rick, I was wondering if the 4270 was in line with the 4070A as far as availability... and if there storys were similar. This is what I love about this site. Everyone has been sooo helpful in my quest for information on these kits and the encouragement to bring them back to their glory really is inspiring! The blue and the yellow trucks have been torn down and I've started cleaning up 'blues' frame. I have to build six new tank mounts because all but one of the originals was unsalvagable... I'll use it for a pattern, thank The Maker for Evergreen and Plastruct! I'm thinking of a red frame, wheels and tanks with a white over blue body... You know, I realized when I started pulling trucks out of the boxes that I was sitting on a veritable goldmine of OOP, classic, desirable kits... I told my friend what the unbuilt versions were worth and what the 4070b might bring on eBay as-is and he still quoted me a purchase price of.... hang on to your butts............... $50.00! It's now ok to curse me and slander my name, if you must... ;^)
  7. B-dub.... If you really want to mess with people, put the Walker tracks under the rear of the Mack and use the Mack tandems under the back of the trailer and make the trailer a 4-axle jobby... You gotta think, that turret weighs at least 12 tons... add that to the fuel capacity of the trailer... Sorry, it's my engineering and trucking background coming back to haunt me...
  8. Well, I'll tell you... Vertigo is a severe P.I.T.A.! I salvaged the paintjob on the body on Sunday Eve... It turned out better than I thought it would. At least I didn't have to strip it and start over. Once or twice a month, I have a bout with vertigo that last a day or two... yesterday was one of those days so I was unable to bring this build to completion. If I can't open my eyes without the room spinning and me wanting to barf I can't do much.... This is where we ended up and I plan on finishing it up in the next day or two... Virgil! I do want to thank you for getting my creativity flowing again. This Comm. Build was the shot in the arm I needed! Even though I didn't finish this one in the allotted time, this is still a victory of sorts for me because I got more done in two days than I usually got done in a month, last year... I hope to keep doing that and turn out numerous builds this year. Lord knows that my stash needs pared down and that is the only way I can see me doing it! Michael, I love the looks of that '32. Is there any brighter red out there? lol! I like the looks of that 429 SCJ between those framerails... Looks mean!
  9. Wow! Chuck, where is this place? I see a Jeep Gladiator that I need some parts off of... Namely the grille, the headlights, buckets and trim-rings and the quadrabeam covers...
  10. Sweet! I like it! I think it's time to dig out my Hornet and start building...
  11. Thanks, Austin, THe one thing I've found about those laquers is that they are unforgiving... It seems like they were easier to work with back when they first came out. Did they change the formula or am I just off my game? Fortunately I was able to salvage this paint job... I knocked down the worst blemishes with a fresh scalpel blade and gave it three more light coats and, except for the bubbling that's still around the right front wheelwell, it looks really good! Here, check it out. The paint's a bit heavy around the trim and script... it's heavier on the other side... Maybe this will lay down as it cures and gasses out overnight... I will have to do some wet sanding around the Rt. Ft. wheelwell but I think I can make a spot repair tomorrow...
  12. I like it! I'd like a couple of those front ends, myself...
  13. Aaaand.... another small update... After walking away from the garage, logging into World of Warcraft and slaughtering Scourge Minions for about 1/2 an hour, I went back to the garage, knocked down some of the worst bubbles and sags with a scalpel blade and hit the scoundrel with three more light coats of laquer... I think I can salvage it... I'll have to do a little wet sanding and then hit it with some Wetlook clear. *This is me wishing for a 'Thumbsup Emoticon'... The heat is on high and the paint is curing as I type...
  14. -Well, that certainly cleared up that little mystery for me... I wrote this information down in my build notes... Thanks, Rick! -Scummy, I should have been playing poker the night I got these... When I pulled that 4070A Transtar out of the box right after I found the Transtar II... and realized what it was... I actually got goosebumps and just a little dizzy... Like I said, those are TWO of my four Grail-kits.
  15. Sweet! One of my favorites... A venerable old Sherman in the very capable hands of the Israeli's... Talk about getting all the mileage out of a hull that you can... I want to do one of their Shermans that mounted the AMX13 auto-turret...
  16. Haven't had time to upload new pics, Gee imagine that... But, I can tell you the the '53 'Vette is now in a complete, rolling chassis, interior and engine are finished and I'm getting ready to go to the garage and start throwing paint... After that, it's final assembly and being that I'm using Teastors One-Shot Laquer, I should be doing final assembly this evening! Update... This build just hit a snag...called Testors One-Coat Laquer... I now have to strip the body and hood and start over again... I've never had paint lay down so smooth, walk away for 5 minutes and come back to find little bubbles and heavy shadowing all over the body... The bubbles aren't fish-eye, they are actually small airbubbles in the paint. This is the second paintjob of mine that has failed using this specific Testors product and it will be the last.... Well, I'll try stripping the body and see if I can salvage this. I won't be able to work on it tomorrow so tonight was it...
  17. Now, that is a FINE LOOKING combo!!! Well done!
  18. Ok, here's where I stand, so far. This is a mild custom, nothing really crazy other than paint and finish. red engine instead of blue, red frame vs. black, etc... I just finished flocking the floor and lower door panels, I was originally going to just apply a coat of future over the bare white plastic but... the hood is molded in a slightly different shade of white than the body so, I'm going to shoot it with Testors One-Coat pearl white. More soon!
  19. That does it! I had no interest in this kit until I read this thread... Absolutely disgusting, I am appalled... I now want one! There's just something about a V8 stuffed in a little monster like this... Yes, they were ugly little cars but they certainly had character... Kinda like the old Wagoners, ehh?
  20. Ok, here's mine! I used the decals from the Monogram 1/48 F-14A Tomcat. As you can see, they had some stray black ink on them so I decided to use a different set on the plane itself. This one started as an AMT Slammers kit. I filled the hood sides and grille, added the aluminum exhaust tips and turned the salt flat disks on my lathe... Simple, easy build, I hope you like it!
  21. That, my friend, is what we in Indiana call a 'Blivet'! I just discovered this thread... Don't ask me how I missed it all this time... I am beyond impressed! I have a new Charger in the works and am really inspired by this build! I think I'm going to go in a different direction with it now...lol!
  22. Well, this is perfect, Count me in! I cracked the box last night and started building this morning... The subjest is Monogram's '53 corvette... I'm doing a OOB build/mild custom for a model club theme and will throw my hat in the ring here! After three hours work, I have the chassis and floorpan, wheels and tires painted and assembled and the engine assembly is coming along nicely... I'll go ahead and take pics and post them when time allows!
  23. I'm likin' that 4300...
  24. Looks good! Eventually, I'd like to get that Volvo kit. It builds into one sharp looking ride... I don't mind that they're curbsides. I have enough model trucks with engines, what's one without... ;^)
